  Abuse in other religions?

  i have been a jw all my life and i'm in mid to late 40's.

  i've seen much abuse.currently i am inactive/attend occ meeting.. my husband who is also a jw and attends some meetings but has been inactive in service for some time due to depression.not at all responsive to me talking to him about this site.he defends jw to the end.my question has to do with other religions than jw.

  my husband says that issues like child molestation/ abuse and rape have not generally been dealt well with by anybody until lately.i am from texas and here the baptist and church of christ are major religions.

  If one is not a baptised Catholic, they cannot be married in the church. If they marry outside, the marriage is not "recognized".

  Not any more! At least not here!! If your partner is a Catholic you can be married in church as well! Even if you 'only' marry at the Registry Office it is 'recognized" !

  Naked: My argument is based on the Idea that these celebrations displease God.

  Why should that displease him? What about f.i. all the rape, childabuse, murders etc??Doesnt that displease him? To MHO celebrating ' pagan holidays" is the least of his concern, dont you think so?

  Naked: Europe can do or say whatever he wants and be only accountable to Europe.

  That's right to a certain extend and know why? Because plenty of people who say they believe in God are plain criminals. For example: Priests abuse little boys for years and years, J.W. elders abuse girls and women, Jews and Palestinians kill each other in the name of God, and when going to church/kingdom hall they play the hypocrite!! Do you prefer that? So to my opinion I'm leading a more christian life, never abused/hurt/killed anybody, never stole a thing, helping people whenever I can, doing plenty of hours voluntary work and I'm not a saint, just a human being, who can decide for him/herself what is good or bad. Dont need f.i. an J.W. elder who tells people not to smoke or drink or the Pope who tells people not to use contraceptives or an Iman who forbids women to ride a bike or drive a car!!! Nothing to do with religion, only with trying to control other peoples life!!

  Naked:Not so with a christian. He is accountable to God and so his day to day living must be in accordance to his will.

  So where does that leave those so called chrisitians who are accountable to God?? They still do their filthy business ?? Is that his will???? So who is more christian then?

  Naked:Your opinion is not based from a belief in a god that holds you accountable for your faith.

  Well, I think it's better when I hold myself accountbale for my acts, we can all see what happens if God holds you accountable for it!! Ask Bill Bowen and Barbara Anderson, they know everything about it!!!!!!!

  Naked:Unlike JW's who go door to door, I don't impose my views on anyone. But I will make my opinion known if asked.

  You hope so!! Seeing all the things that are happening lately (not only the 11th September) I dont think he has a clue! Anyway Naked, whether you celebrate X-mas or not, you welcome the 2 extra days off, dont you? Or are you going to work because these are 'pagan' days off??;-)))

  Your right though, most people don't think about or care whether a celebration ritual comes from pagan origins. My PERSONAL OPINION <<< is that maybe they should.

  Why? If someone wants to celebrate a " pagan" celebration, fine by me, who am I to tell them they cant?

  If you want to celebrate f.i. Chinese New Year or Valentine's Day, have fun!

  There are OTHER religions, europe, if you didn't already know

  Yep, lived among moslims for over 5 years! They too think that there religion is the only worthy one and they do not respect any other religions, they even spit on it! If you would want to live f.i. in Saudi Arabia and like to take your bible with you, forget it, they check all your suitcases every time you go in and out of the country and your bible would be thrown in the litter just before your very eyes!!!!!!

  Do you even believe in God? If not then we cannot argue about celebrations or anything else that pertains to belief or doctrine

  I didnt know that people HAD to believe in God to discuss things???

  It's just different beliefs/opinions that makes discussions so interesting, dont you think so?

  BTW: To MHO most people who celebrate things dont care if those celebrations had there beginning in paganism! Does everything in life you celebrate need a reason?

  is anyone else having trouble accessing the site?.

  also, ive been considering attending the march on the 27th but have had no reply from bowen (or anyone else) in regards to the several emails ive sent.
