a bethelite's viewpoint on the recent organization changesto me the most obvious reason has nothing to do with control, or money.
it has everything to do with the serious shortage of qualified brothers who can (or who are willing to) be used.
Yes....good elders are stepping down....the a&%$holes stay....or good people that are just to old and tired to get themselves into trouble....
I was an elder for almost 12 years.....stepped down last year and some of my "former buddies" definitely envvy me!!! I´ve seen how they try to find out if there are "other reasons" besides the usual "I-am-to-depressed" explanation that is like a "Free Parking" card thrown into the game of fading.....(this is the one reason that does not get questioned and actually gets you a tap on the shoulder.....). I feel FREE and relieved...
By the way, this is what awaits the WTS (hopefully in my lifetime):

I have been a JW for my whole life (40 years) and as I see it, at Russells time it was "the cool thing" to do, to show Catholic church your back and participate in what was a dynamic group that was breaking with the traditional religion, private gatherings where EVERYBODY (including women) could participate in a free form ...THAT was attractive.....now the very meeting that started it all is RIP....(not that I mourn this, I actually joyfully jumped off my seat - earlier than the folks at my hall, thanks to you guys....)
But, in my Hall (Europe) I saw the same reaction. My fanatic relatives came by the next day and commented the same things "Oh, this must be a sign of the end", how wonderfull, etc.
Sometimes I just want to PUKE at the new KH Hall carpet....

so my "bethalite" sister calls me last night for a chat (now i must digress slightly and say that conversations with my sister are few and far between - we have very little to say to each other and any calls to each other are merely out of duty) .
after all the small talk, she tells me that she was doing stocktake in the tuckshop for a change instead of the usual housekeeping job that she is meant to do.
i ask her why and she tells me that all the dept's within bethal who keep a supply of products have to do a stocktake in preparation for the big courtcase on friday.

at one meeting it was announced that the elders would be contacting parents about kids who have my space accounts.

In our hall this part was given to Elder Goebbels (he loves to have this kind of parts, if it is something about forbidden 101, the other elders will ALWAYS choose him). He goes onto stage, with his typical bad-ass serious face (like telling you that you have been sentenced to death).....and starts up the beating!
The BEST part of his talk was: The CO and me have personally searched through some social networking sites (he mentioned the actual URL's www's) and we have found 9 teenagers from our circuit, some are elders kids and we even have found several couples with they're own sites, in (*gulp*) wordly attire....(me: ). He mentioned that, measures are being taken...That about Big-Brother watching you....
(Side note: I was just wondering about WHAT else he was searching on the Net, and also about why would HE have Internet????)
His talk was overly exaggerated (stating stuff like: if you're on the Internet, that big-tattoed pedophile is almost certain to find YOU and HE WILL find you and your home)...with other words he used SCARE tactics....add to this his bombastic-asshole-style of talking and you get the picture.
What a lovely evening. How upbuilding. I should have stayed home. ...(Did I mention that after he finished, we all standed up and shouted "HEIL, HEIL....",....oh no, sorry, it must have been my fantasy....)

No. I'm not referring to my nickname (yes I know the meaning, that is why I choose it).
But on that particular Watchtower mag, they have a young girl sitting on her desk, studying the Insight books and some other crap WT literature, all over her desk......and in front of her, she has a GLASS WITH what seems like KOOL-AID in it! I didn't notice the detail....but during WT study, my wife says: look she's drinking KOOL-AID.....and it hit me like a hammer.....
"Hey, that's true......look at the books she is reading....."

i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.
Anybody remembers a guy named Rutherford? Big, tall guy with a voice like God......had a nickname....I think "THE JUDGE"......

i thought that elders were idiots.
i have only ever known one who has ever had any real education, a solicitor and he was an arrogant twonk, the rest were a pathetic bunch of bullies who 'appeared' to be loving and kind but were infact out to find out the shit about everyone and cause as much trouble for everyone as possible.

Double agent here! And yes, it takes cajones to do that.....it is strenous and hitting my emotional health....
I agree wholehearthly with Snakes and Flipper. Both Spot-on and in the know. I feel ashamed to mention the amount of JC I've had to participate and shudder to think about the results of the decisions that where taken....
I was the one that had to "force" others on the JC to "take it easy".......it gets very, very stressful and got me many sleepless nights, thinking about the "poor bastard" that had to loose his/her dignity in front of a JC......I once told another elder (of the liberal sort, like us here) that I would rather sit in front of a Catholic priest and confess than sit in a JC myself....it has at least more dignity to sit in a quiet, dark booth, pouring your heart than the court thing......(as a side note: I feel liberated, refreshed and free since I completely dismissed the idea of "sin", "confession" - specially to other humans and other rubbish like that.......but that is another thread). Yes, like Snakes said: I would confess sh%$# to a JC.
Anyway, what can I do? Fading and doing the double agent thing is difficult (specially because of family).....but at the same time, I am in a position that allows me "to pay back" and conduct some kind of "guerrilla warfare" of some sort.......(I am well respected), so I let people slip through (that confess some sort of sin, NO JC for them if they come to me FIRST), or I have "lost" JC papers (never sent them) and all sorts of things that I can't discuss publicly, since that would give away too many of the "nice tricks" I have up my sleeve and where I will NEVER get caught.......fun, fun, fun.
I'm sorry for being in this position and sorry if I hurt somebody in the past. I don't know how long I will be able to play "cat and mouse" tricks with the borg........but will use my "time wisely" (hate that expression) being in the position I still have......
