i'm sure texas isn't much different from any other state.. we want clean air.
so, the auto manufacturers came up with a glorified box of charcoal that "filters" out the pollutants (simultaneously making the energy output less efficient requiring yet more fuel) called a catalytic converter.. most cars' converter lasts about 10 years.. .
i'm driving a honda accord from 1998. the coverter has given up the ghost and i don't pass the nox tests.. so.... i can't renew my registration and have to spend about $1700 to replace that stupid box of charcoal.. .

i wonder if he offered an apology to all the people he helped deceive over the past 50 years?.
Anthony Flew on Dawkins, does this sound like a person with dementia?
Not at all. Flew didn't like the rumors spread about him:
What is important about this passage is not what Dawkins is saying about Flew but what he is showing here about Dawkins. For if he had had any interest in the truth of the matter of which he was making so much he would surely have brought himself to write me a letter of enquiry. (When I received a torrent of enquiries after an account of my conversion to Deism had been published in the quarterly of the Royal Institute of Philosophy I managed – I believe – eventually to reply to every letter.)
This whole business makes all too clear that Dawkins is not interested in the truth as such but is primarily concerned to discredit an ideological opponent by any available means. That would itself constitute sufficient reason for suspecting that the whole enterprise of The God Delusion was not, as it at least pretended to be, an attempt to discover and spread knowledge of the existence or non-existence of God but rather an attempt – an extremely successful one – to spread the author’s own convictions in this area.

Florida used to have the same situation. There aren't any inspections here now, however. Gov. Bush cancelled them over a decade ago. In some cases a twenty-dollar handshake to the inspector was a lot less expensive than replacing the catalytic converter. The whole thing was a fraud in any case, mechanics were making out like bandits.
It seems to me that you are being quoted at least twice as much as you should on an installed replacement cat. The part shouldn't be more than $500, and really, it is an easy do it yourself kind of job. A shop should be able to do the thing in an hour.

according to the latest statistics published by the ncc in its yearbook of american and canadian churches, the jehovah's witnesess had the highest growth rate, in 2010 growing 4.37%.
this is, i believe, is the 4th year in a row, that the witnesses had the highest growth rate.
roman catholics grew by less than 1%, as did most of the other churches listed.
I thought the yearly numbers were based on averages, not peaks.

in the patterson commissary.. .
can one pick what one wants?
does one have to pay for items?
If not for the commissary, most of us would have starved. Supper at Bethel was awful, just awful.
And the broke ones get stuck with gleaning.

i've been called a "fundi" many times in my discussions with people on the board, and i'd like to know what your definition is of a "fundi".
don't google it.
i just want to hear your personal definition.. i find it interesting because i don't go to any church.
A global flood has NOT been conclusively proven to have not happened.
You can't prove a negative, BrotherDan.
I tried to quickly research it and will continue, but here is something:

some may find this to be of interest.
"former jehovah's witness greg stafford will be the special guest on "dialogue" conference call on saturday, february 19th at 6:45 pm est.
I read his stuff while I was still in (but starting to look out).
His work had an intellectual finish that is sorely lacking in anything the Watchtower puts out.
I have a recording from when he debated a Trinitarian in Florida (James White), it's on a cassette somewhere. At the time, I was in his camp.
I ordered a book from his website once and I not only never got it, I never even received a refund--despite several emails that were ignored.

The OT law also made legal provision for divorce, yet Jesus said that was put in there out of the hardness of human hearts.
I would describe the slavery situation, especially in the NT, as one akin to tolerance of an existing institution, and not one of endorsement.
Taking the idea behind Jesus' words on divorce in the Law, and applying them to slavery, would also make it a provisional arrangement in light of a flawed humanity that wasn't ready for universal manumission.
Remember, in the US it was in Christian churches that the Abolitionist movement was born, and the idea traces its roots to a Colonial era Catholic priest. The equal rights movement was Christian also. MLK himself was a Christian minister, and couched his language in religious terms.
