Relationships in your home are strained anyway. You fear it will get worse. Buddy, it's getting worse already- the boy is going to be a full JW just like his mother, and the both of them will disrespect you further. The step-father aspect means nothing in the JW world, only in a court if she were to divorce you. You are the head of the household- PERIOD.

If she left you, she could take her son. But in your house, the JW's see you as the head. Use that headship or prepare for more of the same walking-all-over-you.

If you help the boy to learn the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses, maybe his not becoming one could help his mother see the truth about them. MAYBE, and maybe not. But trying to hold back leads to them usurping your headship and going around your back and making the boy into a JW and that gives his mother even more reasons to stay active the rest of her life.

(i realize this topic may have already been addressed so i apologize in advance.).

no, that's not a real headline but i suppose it could be one here in arkansas -- one of several states in the us that has a religious freedom law on their books.. as i understand it, if i, as a jw paramedic, am ordered to deliver a blood product to my patient, i can refuse to do so based on my religious freedom.

as a logical consequence, a patient could die.. would paramedic be an occupation be that one of jehovah's witnesses simply cannot accept, knowing fully well that you would be in a likely position to administer blood..

In Illinois, paramedics do not administer blood. I doubt they do it in any state. They just do not have the time and equipment to carry different blood-types in refrigerators and they certainly do not have the time and equipment to determine the blood-type of the patients.

They put fluid in the blood. Typically, the fluid is saline. It is not refrigerated. They may put drugs in also, but not blood itself.

I have heard of medical advancements where some blood products could replace saline, but they would still not be whole blood, so Watchtower could say these "fractions" are okay. I don't know of any areas where these products are in use by paramedics, but it's a big world and there probably are some places.

i have a 2011 new year resolution to avoid reading jw literature or watch their videos.i am not "religious" about it, and will watch/read excerpts, but pretty much stick with that resolution as it only angers me when i read the stuff.. well, someone posted their video of philippines disaster relief due to a 2013 typhoon as a response to a news article to demonstrate that they are not really helping and that it is just propaganda.

i watched the video and was immediately able to see what the hell is wrong with jw's and their leadership and, as i figured- i was angered.. so i will post this link, but then go back to not watching/reading.

it just isn't worth it.. in the video, when they knew the storm was coming, the pre-planned disaster relief people texted elders to warn them to evacuate.

Splash, we are getting into the honesty/dishonesty of the branch and the organization here. My point in posting was that their PR video is misleading, if not downright dishonest. Any group could have a higher mortality rate if they were in one place (like a building) that was devastated. A group of circus performers could have died being in one spot and the mortality rate for circus performers could have been nearly 100%. But such information is very valuable to show JW's that "Jehovah protects HIS people" is a crock. Thanks for that.

runForever, I wonder if saying that they texted people with the need to evacuate was only the tiniest bit true. Someone was texted or many were texted with a slightly different message about getting to the Kingdom Hall. They wouldn't deliberately leave people in harm's way, but maybe they didn't expect the absolute worst and didn't want to put themselves out or use funds to help people beforehand if this typhoon wasn't as bad as it turned out. But maybe they told partial truths afterwards to make it seem they did what they were supposed to do.

CrazyGuy, it is just shameful that their PR video doesn't mention how 22 were killed at the Kingdom Hall and actually makes you think that the people who went to their Kingdom Halls all survived, so it must have been those that stayed at home that perished.

I texted this brother last night and said that we need to talk THIS WEEK. He texted that he would get back to me. We'll see what happens.

I still think you should just skip this guy and go to some elders and make a bold stand. But if you want to try being Mr. Nice Guy, you really need to be not-too-nice. This guy is putting you off. He is trying to get your son to be very active as a JW for the rest of his life and he sees you as the biggest obstacle.

Do as Witness My Fury said on page 5:
leaving it up to him to contact you about it means he never will. Put it in writing if needs be and slip it in his door if no one answers

And I would suggest you write a letter that says this- You have made arrangements with my wife without consulting me. You will no longer study with my son. His mother and I will see to that. You will no longer discuss this matter with my wife. If you have anything to say to my wife or son at all, you will contact me first.

I want to add that you say you don't want to be an a-hole. I would do anything I had to do if I had a son about to be dragged into that religion including getting kicked out for speaking against the religion to him. If I were to help him, I would also have to offer positive alternatives to the lies of JW'S and fun alternatives to meetings.

I fully agree with millie210 on page 2. I want to add that you tell the elders to tell this brother that your wife can do the study with the child. And tell the elders that because the brother has avoided you and arranged the auto, you totally cannot trust him, and they should suggest he keeps his distance from your wife.

while the child may not like some of this, better to get it over with. It really is not necessary for him to like anything JW-related anyway.

Oh, both to Crazyguy and funForever:

If the government said everyone should evacuate, shouldn't the elders have cancelled the meetings that night and said, "We're supposed to evacuate." ? Shouldn't the branch have insisted on that?

Well, they had the meeting. I can imagine them laughing at everyone running away because they didn't have faith like the JW's have in Jehovah and "His" Kingdom Hall.

millie, yes. They are two-faced about the buildings. Good point about them being "just buildings" once they get rid of them.

runForever, I do not know whether they were told about staying or not. I don't suggest they were told to stay and seek protection in their KH. I do suggest they didn't leave like they should have if there were really a decent pre-planned effort. I have a strong suspicion that the video says there was an effort to answer to those that say there wasn't one, but they say only that they texted the elders because they really didn't do anything else. I imagine some elders were texted by someone like a C.O. or D.O. and told to get out if they can.
