Pistoff, it really is that simple. I would add that minors should not be recruiters (publishers) and if parents want to drag them out in recruiting, they stay with their family. And they should be careful there also.

Axelspeed, there will always be some who want the title, but I would resign were I to see that stuff.

Is the two-witness rule really unreasonable?

i'm picturing a situation in which a savvy 12 year old doesn't like the house rules that mom's new husband has put into place.

or something along that line.

i can certainly agree that protection of children is paramount, but who protects the real victim in those cases?

If they want the two-witness rule as far as congregational matters go, that's fine. That doesn't stop them from assisting the victims to the police, standing by their side and making no judgments.

It would be far better to go with the court rulings instead of sticking with just the two-witness rule. A compromise would be to assist the victim to be strong and testify in court, then even without two witnesses, to tell the creep that is found guilty in a worldly court that, of course the congregations must know and of course he can't work with children. "But if you want to stand by your innocence, Jehovah will know the truth so what does a few restrictions really do to you?"

d4g, what you say is true. I just don't know that it will ever penetrate too far into the rank and file. There's still a Roman Catholic Church, but it was much bigger to begin with, and by percentage the problems are bigger for JW's. So maybe it will be a tipping point, or part of a tipping point.

That is correct. 1975 is a prime example, or the generation, or...... I could go on and on. When the Pope apologized, it was cleared by lawyers and forced, but at least it finally came out and it seemed genuine enough that I was convinced that the hierarchy actually saw that they made a mistake. Barbara Anderson was invited to speak with the Roman Catholic Church because they wanted to compare notes and do better about their problem.

TheListener, as glad as I am to hear that these cases are hurting Watchtower, I fully agree. I would rather that nobody was a victim, and I would trade all the pain for just letting Watchtower keep their money. But it's out there because it did happen, so I hope as many victims as possible get some closure and I hope it hurts Watchtower as much as possible, because that hurt is still less than what a victim goes through.

TheWonderofYou, so true. The U.S. is afraid to step in against religion anymore than financial rewards. Let's hope for Australia, UK, others to do more.

"Therapy at our cost" ????? No thanks. It would have strings attached- JW counselors or reports back to WTS along with the bills. Better to just give them enough money to find their own genuine no-strings therapy. Your humor situation of educated sisters and victims sounds even worse. Humor is right. Ha ha. I like the ACCC.

It looks like this is a firestorm of thought as so many responded. I had to click send before I finished typing. But enough was said. Let me respond to some.

StarTrekAngel, even short of a hearing in other countries, I hope that just hearing of a ruling against WTS in another country will be enough to push it past the allegations stage.

truthseeker100, I imagine it will eventually be on the PBS type of international news. I really hope it makes CNN more and more. I know it already did. I really picture most JW's as more the CNN type.

LITS, I can imagine ex-JW's not wanting to talk about it. Heck, it wasn't my issue at all when I came out of it. I assumed it was exaggeration when I first heard about it. But facts are facts and I was naive. Your focusing on Bill Cosby like that, I think we are on the exact same page. Enough accusations should equal at least a consideration that it's not just a bunch of lawsuit-happy people. It should merit attention to see if it has any truth, even to a JW. It would have gotten my attention were I still "in."

Phizzy, we don't want to forget victims. This thread was mainly about wildfire spreading through the rank and file, but you are right. I will be satisfied if many more victims get some kind of closure. Settlements and/or a day in court would be nice for them. WIldfire is a bonus.

John Aquila, that would be cool. But aside from his homophobia, tight pants and spanx comments, I doubt any such thing is true about Tony Morris. Now, if we heard a rumor about him liking to put on tight leather and being tied up with leather straps while his wife gets out the whip, I would probably think it was true.

TheWonderofYou, I always thought just like you. If "they" can forgive a child abuser, he should be content to be an inactive JW and stay away from the kids. Part of the problem with WTS is they don't want to even admit that circumstances for such a situation exist. Further, they don't want to create a new level of membership where being "inactive" is not only allowed but it is mandated. And as far a therapy goes, the local elders might be caving in more and more on the idea that people need professional therapy, but Watchtower itself is a long way from considering encouraging it openly.

If you can't see it, it's Tony Morris introducing a Caleb and Sophia video about sexual predators. It's been talked about, and so has Tony's (and the organization's) twisted misrepresentation of the facts.

Today, I am caught up hearing about Australia. All those cases, my my my!! I am pretty sure the press and the social media will be brutal and things will catch on like wildfire. What I am asking today- by not ignoring these things, and perhaps they cannot, will this issue continue to grow worldwide- particularly in America and Europe? I mean, the average U.S. witness would never hear about something in Australia, and even our trying to bring attention to it would cause them to shut down and say "You are just an evil apostate." But there the GB are, highlighting that something is rotten in Spiritual Paradise.

Will more cases pop up and just pile on? In other words, will existing cases cause more people to come forward with legit cases (kind of like Bill Cosby) and will lawyers be more willing to file knowing there's settlement money? Will young JW's seek out more google searches about the subject because of Tony Morris or because of whispers about Candace Conti or Australia or other cases?

I have been a bit busy and haven't caught up with this story until just now.

WTF (Watchtower Farms) is up with this organization. There were that many to cover up and none of those cases was reported to police.

I wonder how I can share this with my wife. Maybe I will leave the link right in the middle of the screen on the laptop.
