cecil probably contributed to the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of animals.

what happened to him was justice.. you reap what you sow.

If the wanted to stalk the lion the way the lion stalks a zebra, claw at the lion with his fingernails and teeth, and kill the lion barehanded that way, and do it in order to feed his little dentist cubs and himself, then okay.

i have been in correspondence recently with silentambs and a few interesting things have been highlighted.

some of you may know, that bill bowen has twice tried to get the fbi involved in investigating child molestation issues in the jws org.

this is what he said to me, i quote: we have reported to the fbi on two occasions and were rebuffed due to them not wishing to get involved with a religion.

The FBI would only take on cases that cross jurisdictional lines. The vast majority of pedophile cases within the United States are within a community, at least within one state. I don't think too many JW pedos want to take their victim across state lines to escape one local jurisdiction.

Watchtower may have it's hands tied on publishing names of pedophiles, but they can stop protecting them by killing one-witness accusations and they can put the children's welfare first and foremost.

In Australia, we want first and foremost for the victims to get their needed help. But what disgusting things happened have already happened. We might be a bit glad that it is being revealed and that will probably decrease the number of future victims there.

how much do you want to bet that the organization has already started preparing articles for the watchtower magazines, convention talks, circuit overseers talks and letters to bodies of elders, to refute what is happening in australia?

right now the most important thing for the wt to do is protect their image that they are gods visible organization.especially in the u.s. and latin american countries.

Maybe they will talk about a handful of people claiming to be JW at the time they committed terrible offenses.

Whatever they do, I think they might find the "world" turning away from them as it did to Bill.

Lions kill zebras and antelopes. It's the circle of life, the law of the jungle, etc.

If the villagers killed the lion to save their livestock, that's one thing.

If dentists from Minnesota needed to kill lions and eat the meat or else wither and die, that's another thing.

But he neither needed to kill the lion nor even ate the meat. He killed an endangered animal for sport. I would give the same answer for animals that are not endangered. In the United States, hunt down a Labrador Retriever and shoot it for sport and see what kind of hate mail you get.

Pistoff, it really is that simple. I would add that minors should not be recruiters (publishers) and if parents want to drag them out in recruiting, they stay with their family. And they should be careful there also.

Axelspeed, there will always be some who want the title, but I would resign were I to see that stuff.

Is the two-witness rule really unreasonable?

i'm picturing a situation in which a savvy 12 year old doesn't like the house rules that mom's new husband has put into place.

or something along that line.

i can certainly agree that protection of children is paramount, but who protects the real victim in those cases?

If they want the two-witness rule as far as congregational matters go, that's fine. That doesn't stop them from assisting the victims to the police, standing by their side and making no judgments.

It would be far better to go with the court rulings instead of sticking with just the two-witness rule. A compromise would be to assist the victim to be strong and testify in court, then even without two witnesses, to tell the creep that is found guilty in a worldly court that, of course the congregations must know and of course he can't work with children. "But if you want to stand by your innocence, Jehovah will know the truth so what does a few restrictions really do to you?"

D.O.C., I suppose that's what I am asking: Is there going to be a firestorm or will it stir up a candle fire and then go out. It's just that a G.B. public reaction seems to change that. It seems to make me feel that a firestorm might be coming. You are probably right. I just don't know.

d4g, what you say is true. I just don't know that it will ever penetrate too far into the rank and file. There's still a Roman Catholic Church, but it was much bigger to begin with, and by percentage the problems are bigger for JW's. So maybe it will be a tipping point, or part of a tipping point.

When the Pope apologized, it was cleared by lawyers and forced, but at least it finally came out and it seemed genuine enough that I was convinced that the hierarchy actually saw that they made a mistake. Barbara Anderson was invited to speak with the Roman Catholic Church because they wanted to compare notes and do better about their problem.
