"M" is for "Memorial"
by OnTheWayOut inmany weeks ago, i apparently put "m" on today's date- wednesday, march 23rd, in my google calendar.
it was supposed to remind me that the memorial that jehovah's witnesses observe would be held today.
i was flipping through my calendar this past weekend and asked my wife "what in the world is 'm' for (that day)?

Lostwun, I was trying to organize JRK and me going to an AC/DC concert tonight and then, if invited, having such a far-from-acceptable-yet-honest excuse. Well, AC/DC had to cancel the concert and it fell through anyway as an excuse. You know what- zing him with a good one. "So sorry, but I am cutting down on wine and crackers." -

Poztate, it's a good thing. It's a good thing. Try saying it as a mantra. I didn't get the call, but an elderly lady from the local Spanish congregation rang and rang my bell to give me an invitation on Saturday. But she didn't know about the evil fader living here. -

JRK, I have tried to have that same upbeat attitude about them not calling ever since my second year out when they did not call. It's a good thing. -

Many weeks ago, I apparently put "M" on today's date- Wednesday, March 23rd, in my GOOGLE Calendar. Just "M"
It was supposed to remind me that the Memorial that Jehovah's Witnesses observe would be held today. I was flipping through my calendar this past weekend and asked my wife "What in the world is 'M' for (that day)?" She knew without really stopping to think. "It must be the Memorial."
Stay out long enough and you won't even remember. It's sort of like when an active JW forgets birthdays and holidays and accidentally wears green on St. Patrick's Day.
It also helped me to forget because early this year, I read some link where "they" were going to make a special effort to invite inactive ones to the Memorial this year. It was supposed to be such a special effort that I was sure I would be invited. Well, I should remember how thrilled the average JW is in their special efforts. Especially the elders, as I am sure that rumors of my powers of persuasion would prevent anyone spiritually weaker than an elder to call upon me. HA!
I will maybe go see a movie or just be out of the house this evening.
So I just wanted a forum thread about not going, not remembering, or telling family why you aren't going, or even going just to appease a loved one. Tell me about your day today and what you feel or have to deal with.

Lost on how to respond...
by babygirl30 inso an old friend of mine from the congregation hit me up today.
the story goes like this when we were jw's:.
- this guy used to be madly in love with me but i didn't see him as anything more than a friend.

Your response (on page 4) is totally awesome. Reaches right out there to show him that he put the cult first. -

God said be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and govern it.
by atomant inl have a problem with this.lf adam and eve didnt sin the earth would eventually have been full to the brim with perfect human beings.then what every man gets the chop or no more sex?then on the other hand we have the jw's sayingresurrected ones will not be allowed to marry in the earthly new system.. married survivors of armageddon will remain married.
single survivors of armageddon may or may not be allowed to marry.so it seems that people reborn into new system wont be able to procreate.
and married survivors will stay married so l assume that means they can still hanky panky and have babys thats a bit unfair..the earth can only accommodate a maximum number of humans then what for the married couples.

I started to comment on the OP, but it's like trying to discuss how Santa Claus can get down the chimney in homes without a fireplace. -

I like the fact that XJW's are passionate about politics
by minimus inthe fact is we could never talk about politics or of use toward political issues as witnesses now we can and we can disagree without being disagreeable .

Terry:
Passionate? Mmmm, I'd say puerile and snippy and thin-skinned,
and wound up tight and ready to burst a blood vessel.Isn't it enough to insult all the ex-JW's on your own thread?
Minimus, many of us are able to disagree without being disagreeable. But some aren't.

Memorial mixed emotions...
by Tornintwo indoes anyone else feel 'pulled back in' at this time of year?.
i still consider myself to a believer, believe in god and jesus christ, on the whole i think he taught tolerance, love, acceptance and i think we can benefit from following his example.
i love ray franzs book in search of christian freedom.

...I sort of have to respect Jws for trying to bring peoples attention to his sacrifice at this time of year and I am toying with the idea of attending. For a few reasons, mainly because I want to acknowledge his sacrifice and don't know how or where else to do it and I want to test how I feel about things after 6 months since my last meeting.
Do as you must. But know this- JW's do not respect anyone outside of JW's and the way they bring attention to "his sacrifice." They are not trying to bring attention to Jesus at this time of year, but rather to the Watchtower Cult and their way of observing such.
As for myself, I wouldn't want to open a can of worms and send a message that I might come back because I attend the Memorial. Besides my becoming an atheist (not the thread to debate that, but has to be mentioned in my reasoning), I would not want to be dragged into a judicial matter because the elders thought I was starting to "fellowship" again. If I felt the need to go, I would go somewhere that my elders are not attending.

Am l the only one.?The older l become the more hostile l become towards god.
by atomant inthey say you mellow out with age.maybe so but not in my case.l feel its an insult and degrading to us humans to have to live the way we do if there is a god.deep down l guess l do believe theres a god but lm having great difficulty trying to understand why things are the way they are.l dont need a bible bashing from anyone l just feel frustrated and helpless.l just battle on like everyone else but l get the feeling theres a whole lot more to our existence.

If a god existed, and I am highly confident that none of the gods of men's creation do exist, then he/she/it (I will stick with 'he') is a bastard for doing nothing in most cases where he could. He is great evil.
Just to stick to one type of evil- If there is some lesson to be learned, some greater good to be had, by the suffering of children by disaster or at the hands of men, then 'God' is asking too high a price for that lesson or greater good. It's not worth the price.
