Just wondering who on this board has a spouse that is fully in and your awake?

i am just curious who on this board is in the same situation has i am?

a spouse that is fully brain doogled in and you are awake to ttatt.. without going into serious detail and no names are given.

i would like to possible talk with one of you all, it's just so helpful to communicate with someone in the same situation as me.. i am located in the southwest united states..

I am very much in your situation.

I have stopped going to meetings nearly 10 years ago, having a very successful fade with no judicial reproof and no more phone calls or texts or emails from the elders.

But my wife is a fully active congregation member. I am sure she is viewed as "weak" because she will miss a meeting here and there, but she "is fully brain doogled" and will defend them illogically and automatically if any news about child abuse or issues concerning them come up.

She doesn't care to understand silly things like "overlapping generation" and believes that young people should go to college, and won't say that "they" don't want people going, but leans upon her old understandings of "education with a purpose." My wife is intelligent, but turns her brain off when it comes to Jehovah's Witnesses. All she knows is that they don't celebrate pagan holidays, they are the cleanest and most honest people on earth, they are the only ones who proclaim God's name, and Satan blinds people to the real truth by using their desire to sin or be lazy about serving God.

Since she won't research or think deeply on any doctrine, I cannot penetrate her defenses.

Overlapping gen teaching- Help?

can someone please help explain to me the overlapping generations teaching?

i have not been able to grasp this one or what it even applies to?

The point is that Watchtower gives a second fulfillment of the scriptures to arrive at the time when "this system of things ends" and since they are a doomsday cult, they only retain members if they set a doomsday.

All other doomsday dates have come and gone, and they need a new one without admitting they were wrong about the previous ones.

"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." So they change what "this generation" means. They may, in the future, change what "not pass away" means or even redefine whether those things "happened."

I fully agree with The Big Machine's comments. Plus, if you wind up doing the move thing, get a temporary cell phone number for the new elders and let them go to voicemail. Give them a slightly wrong address.

I would immediately cease attending so they don't even remember me. I would monitor the cell number for two or three months (maybe more) and if they never find me, I would just put them in my mirror and never go back.

Just a suggestion, but YES. You are being hounded, so see how bad it gets when you fade completely. Typically, you can ignore their calls and texts and they will give up after several weeks, sometimes sooner. Sometimes, never.

If they don't give up, then say you moved. If you move, you could visit a few halls to see if you can get a feel for who has the lazy elders, but I don't see that as an easy task. If you do visit a new congregation, don't tell them you moved, just say you are visiting because you are contemplating a move.

Remember that you cannot be DF'ed for being inactive. You are free to blow off talking to them.

Don't worry if you don't understand it better after reading. Nobody really understands how this nonsense explanation can actually be applied without making the Watchtower doctrine a laughing stock.

Slow down there. You just asked the question and half-an-hour later, you think you have heard enough.
Changing congregations may be the answer, but it may not.

Toes up: I think it depends on the hall you decide to move in. Some halls have lazy elders who could care less that you left, so they won't bother you. Some halls have Nazi Elders.
We had lazy Elders, so for the most part they left us alone.

There's your answer. If you are not being hounded at your current congregation, you may be able to move and just fade out quickly there. You don't know what a new set of elders will do.

If you fade out and are then hounded too much, you can then say "Oh, we moved. We want our records forwarded." Then see if it works better at the new hall.

Level, so true. Even there, if someone says "trust the brothers" (or more likely "trust the organization/G.B."), you could say, "So you are saying just be obedient and don't think for myself?"

"I just wanted to be sure you were saying 'Don't think for myself.'"

EyesOpen, excellent suggestion. Just refer to their rock stars as if they are just men. They say they are, anyway.

elbib, I get that you are hearing that from believing members. But if I said that, I would go even further. I would not say "our." It would be "according to the current teachings of the Watchtower organization..."

A huge thing that helped me in my mentally breaking from their beliefs was to stop using their terms that put you, virtually automatically, into their thought mode.

Using terms like "the Truth," JW's feel special about themselves and this helps them separate themselves from "the world." By incorporating loaded language, JW's learn NOT TO THINK, but merely to memorize words and phrases instead of analyzing a situation.

The reasons someone misses meetings is because they are "spiritually weak." They might be involved in "worldly thinking."

New choices of words should not be so obvious that the people around you question you on them. If you lack a new term for something, try just saying it out totally for what it really is- example could be "field service" changed to "magazine distribution work." (Because "recruiting" is over-the-top to say to their faces, but it is my preferred term for that work.) The work of recruiting can be referred to as "door-to-door canvasing."

One of the biggest ones that helped me was to never address people as "Brother Smith" or "Sister Jones." Instead I said "Tom" or "Sue."

Instead of "The Faithful and Discreet Slave," I said "Those still alive that partake at the Memorial."

Instead of "privileges in the congregation," I say "work assignments."

Instead of "Jehovah," you might say "God."

"Worldly" is simply replaced by "Not one of Jehovah's Witnesses."

"The Truth" is one you can have so much fun with, replacing it in various terms like "The beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses" or "Watchtower current teachings" or so many others. But abandoning "the truth" will really help you.

Soon, you will be able to think past such thought-stopping terms like "Wait on Jehovah." You might automatically replace that with "Wait until Watchtower covers the subject in a new video."

Others are welcome to post on this thread any terms they use or would like to use.

so i was thinking of writing a book of my own.

not an account of my life but more a simple step by step look at jw's and what they are really like?

I've just finished reading Alan miller's "fade from the truth", I enjoyed it and I love that it's freely available.

First, a big thanks for reading that. I will say a few things about "FADE" and maybe it will help you with your desire to write. I didn't make it available to get rich, I would have needed to keep my day job no matter what.

I read Kyria Abraham's I'M PERFECT, YOU'RE DOOMED while I was writing a horrible and bitter book about my thoughts on JW doctrine. I knew it was such a negative work that I had to abandon it. I didn't even want to read it, certainly nobody else would. I was very much inspired by Kyria and her way of simply stating her story.

I was going through therapy and started just telling my personal story for my own personal therapy. I actually started with a profound event in my life (a suicide attempt) that led to me becoming a JW as an adult, then needed to back up to my childhood introduction to JW's via my mother. Then it only seemed natural as I processed the outcome for therapy to write out the outcome of my journey.

Along the way, I debated with myself about making that personal story into a public story. I finally decided that if I could help a single person on their journey, it should be public. I googled some things about how long a book should be and got the Zen answer that it should be no longer than needed to complete the story. But I also learned that a published work should be close to a minimum 50,000 words. My story was shorter than that and seemed to accomplish the Zen goal, but to get to that minimum, I added a short chapter called ANAMORPHOSIS which was my meditations that came from an epiphany on how I, at a low point in life, needed to believe in the illusions created by Watchtower.

I shared my story with Barb Anderson and she posted it to her webpage. Later, I put it on Amazon as a very low priced ebook and as a print book. I have met a few people who say it has made a difference in their lives, which is way more precious to me than any profits. I think every writer of JW stories can tell you it's not the way to get rich.
