Finkelstein, I have never thought the latest bunch were all that bright in the GB. I don't think it was their brains but their knee pads that got them to the top. One serious blow to the finances of Watchtower and these 7 men might just come up with something even crazier than overlapping generations. They assume the sheeples are not even bothering to try to understand their doctrines and aren't worried about a lack of scriptures to back them up.
Dropping suggestions might very well be all we see from them.

Outlaw, that would be great. But I think a great tribulation would be over if Watchtower was destroyed.

Fisherman, a judgment message would allow JW's to remember that "We and our GB were right." That's all being a JW is about. Otherwise, it serves no purpose. Even Watchtower's version of Noah didn't have time to go and declare judgment.

Jehovah would only allow people to cling to the open deck of the ark without the waves sweeping them off into the sea if they totally kiss the asses of the GB and show what great sacrifices they are willing to make for just that privilege. Gefangene, making a call out for handing over assets might as well be a call that the Great Trib. has started. Most won't go along with it without increasing the pressure on the timeline.

Virgochik, thanks for that thought. I agree. But they have cried religious persecution before without declaring the Great Trib. so they might stop short or just imply it.

Finkelstein, that was what I thought for quite awhile, but it sure seems like they don't have a bunch of money in reserve to weather this storm. Oh, hundreds of millions should be there, but somehow, I feel it isn't. It's like they are drying up and ONLY the money from property sales is covering their asses.

Fisherman, yes. Prophecy declared by them is in the way. The Bible is in the way. That hasn't stopped them from changing it anyway.

Listener, thanks for reminding us what they are currently saying in their videos. Remember they are slick and can set up a video or study article to make members speculate as to the meaning, then see how people react before going further down that path.

Designer Stubble, that is kind of what I am thinking. A timetable to save money from printing by not printing. They could switch to their message of judgment with a "tribulation starting" announcement.

Listener, great thoughts. I would say they might find any data to say it is the "start" of thr UN turning on false religion. They can find some anti-Sharia Law data and some acceptance of science over faith stats to show it has "started."

kairos, the videos can be a primer for such a declaration, or they could simply be a way to imply it's time for the tribulation, as they have done for 100 years.

BlackSwan of Memphis, that's my thoughts. I know we were told it would be fairly quick, but we were also told the end would come in [FILL IN THE YEARS]. They change things.

redpilltwice, I don't think it would be an easy decision. They know it would be harder to do than 1975. I really expect that it would be done out of desparation because of a terrible money situation. Maybe soon, after they sell the rest of Brooklyn.

purrpurr, that's the double-edged sword they live with- do nothing because they don't want to be wrong again. Or do something to save the organization from bleeding out all the money and members. In politics, it's being called "kicking the can down the road." A politician can do something that will have terrible future repercussions to get past the problem now, past his time in office.

bohm, I have also thought that maybe the GB was afraid to "do" anything except what they think they must do. Most were handpicked as yes men for Ted Jaracz and tend to just go along. And I got the same thought that they might panic when numbers and money dip too far.

OneEyedJoe, exactly. It'll be a long Great Tribulation. It would be the problem for a next generation of JW's to recover from this declaration.

Xanthippe, great thoughts on them passing blame for their problems. I agree they don't need more recruits. They don't even need all the ones they have. Many were productive "publishers" but that doesn't really produce income for them. They just need money, not people. Declaring the GT would increase the success of a call to shun inactive family members.

Flipper, interesting thoughts. They may be saving the declaration of GT for governments really putting the heat on them. And then they could still say "It is the START...." No further commitment. I just wonder if they can go on financially until such a time.

I will reply to individuals when I can. I just want to add that they really seem to have blown or mismanaged or poorly invested so much money. They focus so heavily on obedience w/o questions and they have so many people fading and young people just walking away. They already have implied the 120 years "like the days of Noah" before the flood could mean something.

I know this kind of thing goes against everything they learned since 1975, but they survived that and paid for modern presses with that debacle. I have wondered if desparate times would make them declare 2034 as a date of significance and even just "imply" that the great tribulation could be upon us, "but we sometimes see prophecy fulfilled afterward" so we are on the watch. And I have wondered if they would go further than imply and prepare some kind of bunkers for their own escape. All current GB will be too old (or dead already) to care what this means for JW's of 2040 and beyond.

I don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about JW's anymore. They seem to say some pretty crazy stuff. But I have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how Watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time. I have wondered if a group of Governing Body members would be willing to move the members along to a different set of rules that would cause major changes and allow them to often say "No time to explain, just do as we say."

So, with a worldwide focus on pedophiles in the Catholic church and a problem in Europe with Muslim refugees and difficulty with Sharia Law attempts, with the United States having a presidential candidate proposing that Muslims be restricted from entering the country, and finally- with the Royal Commission of Australia and the thought of a Russian ban of Jehovah's Witnesses along with various lawsuits against Watchtower for their rules allowing children to become victims of predators- WITH ALL THAT- is it time to say that the beast (or the image of the beast or whatever) has turned on false religion and is turning it's attention to "true religion" ?

Could this be a way for Watchtower to seize any assets and dispose of them as they wish? Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, branch offices, circuit overseers, the printing of any literature- nothing would be safe from the chopping block.

This would appease those old JW's that still think the "end" should have come before the 1914 Generation passed away (in a bizarre stretched kind of way). It would settle their thoughts on why there are so many changes and keep them from fading away to inactivity since their precious awaited time has arrived and they don't want to jump off the ark of salvation as the rain is starting.

So, without turning this into some over-complicated explanation of scriptures that need to be satisfied and without saying that such an announcement would contradict something Watchtower has already said (because we know it will), your thoughts on whether they would do this or not, how they would do this, what the reaction would be- all that kind of stuff would be greatly appreciated.
