I love the detailed explanation from David _Jay above. I don't even care who's more "right" in this- the JW's or the Jews. But I do know that JW's like to feel that they are so RIGHT. They put quite a bit into calculating this date and explaining the calculation so that the JW's can smugly feel vindicated on whatever date they choose.

Atheism = self defeating.
by towerwatchman inatheism = self defeating.
first may we define our terms.
the word atheism comes literally from the greek, alpha the negative and theos [for god], therefore “negative god” or there is no god.

To make an absolute statement in the negative is similar to saying that nowhere in the universe does there exist a flying spaghetti monster.
Give me a break. I am willing to make that absolute statement even though I don't have "unlimited knowledge of this universe."
First may we define our terms. The term "flying spaghetti monster" comes literally from a satirical open letter written by Bobby Henderson in 2005 and started a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools. It is not any lifeform that seems to sort of look like spaghetti, but rather it is the silly "god" made of spaghetti that created the universe.
I am confident there is no god, but for most atheists, confidence that all the specifically defined gods do not exist is sufficient.
If you think it is self defeating to say there is absolutely no flying spaghetti monster, then you might expect it to show up one day. I am positive that it won't, and equally positive that "God" won't either. I would love to be eating my words and "he" shows me up for taking such a self defeating stand.I am equally confident that no matter how many monkeys with typewriters you employ for any amount of time, even up to an infinite number of monkeys for an infinite amount of time, you will never have one of them type out Shakespeare's HAMLET.
We know for sure that technically, the probability of that happening is not totally ZERO, but we all know it would never happen. -

Devil's Advocate: "No, Jehovah's Witnesses abhor child abuse. There may be a handful of individuals who are not true servants of God residing within the congregations and attempting to hide their sins, but it is not the same as the Catholic Church actually protecting pedophiles among their priestly ranks."

This link below from jwfacts may be the absolute closest you will get to a "document" that does what you are asking. But any step-by-step guide can be objected to. Broad steps lead to jumping to improper conclusions with faulty logic. That's how I became a JW- broad step-by-step conclusions based on faulty logic.

kingdom hall construction scheme revealed!
by nowwhat? inhere in notheast ohio a kingdom hall closed and proceeds of the sale will go directly to nearby hall for total remodeling.
so it's obvious any new hall or remodeling will be paid for from funds from sale of any sold kingdom hall.
so basically it's a self funding project fund.

Are laws broken here?
It would seem like it, but everyone sends their money voluntarily. And as far as previous funds saved up and taken away- No congregation is going to hire a lawyer and sue Watchtower for taking their money.
If an actual law is being broken, someone has to bring it to the attention of the government and show that they have been damaged by the breaking of said law.

Walmart settles JW religious discrimination lawsuit
by darkspilver inpennrecord, monday 20 march 2017. in his lawsuit, pressley claimed a wal-mart store manager remarked to him: “you don’t have to go to those meetings.
you can be spiritual here,”.
pressley then claimed a store manager gave him an ultimatum to either stop attending his meetings or be fired.. wal-mart and ex-assistant manager who claimed religious discrimination settle lawsuit.

The case was settled. There is enough of a problem for Walmart that they paid out. Sadly, it should really have nothing to do with a "religious requirement" to attend meetings twice weekly. He has a schedule. He can't work Wednesday eve and a few hours on Sunday.
The problem is that they did accommodate him for some time. The only legitimate move by the Walmart store would be to change the rules on Assistant Managers and their availability, then offer to demote him if he couldn't work with that. -

Part of Growing Up - Saying Goodbye to Invisible Friends?
by doubtfull1799 ini don’t remember having any invisible friends when i was a really little boy, i don’t know if such a thing actually exists, i’ve only ever seen it in movies?
of course it might have looked to others like i was talking to someone on occasions, but i’m sure it would have just been me talking to myself.
the thing is though, i got introduced to an invisible friend in my pre-teens, and i kept the relationship going well into adulthood.
-

It's hard for some to let go of the invisible friend because of the best seller book and all the shrines across the world dedicated in some way to the invisible friend.
Perry even believes the literalness of the Abraham and Invisible Friend story, and dismisses all the literalness of any evil coming from the invisible friend in that same book. Invisible friend can't possibly allow murder and kidnapping of little girls to be raised as sex slaves. He doesn't care if it's in the same book he uses as evidence of Invisible Friend's existence.
As long as people like Perry belittle non-belief and insist that only ignorant belief in Invisible Friend will make a person good, he won't be put away. Most people know that Sherlock Holmes and Luke Skywalker were fictional people. Virtually everyone outgrows belief in Santa Claus, but they cling to this Invisible Friend.

Who can explain why the "Two Witness" rule is wrong, in the simplest term?
by DATA-DOG inwith all the legalese being tossed around, and the expert manipulation on the part of the wtbts, who can explain why the "two witness" is being perverted by the wtbts?
i don't care if you're a bible believer and want to approach this from a biblical standpoint, or if you simply use logic and reason.
how would you explain this subject to a j-dub, or even a non-dub?.
-
OnTheWayOut
As stated by others, the two-witness rule is not necessarily wrong for the various reasons stated.
What is wrong is for Watchtower to be in the business of law enforcement and justice. If they treated the "CRIMES" of raping children or beating spouses the same as the crime of murder, they would always always always call the expert authorities in.
I know that if they always call the police, they might look like they are not the wonderful help to members that they want to appear to be. Members might learn to skip going to the elders with ANY problems after they learn to go to the police with crimes. That's alright by me, too.

Talked to a JW at a literature stand today
by nevermind inguys,.
i need your help in trying to wrap my head around this strange experience i had today talking with a jw lady sitting at a literature table in a busy outdoor shopping center.. i'm a very shy person, but i always wanted to ask these jws at their literature stands questions to start them thinking about the validity of watchtower teaching.
i finally mustered my strength today to talk to this jw lady.

nevermind, I don't think the woman was lying. She is just using her filter as Blondie first mentioned.
She believes the excuses and allowed them to be embedded in her mind.
My mother is very similar. But questioning still helps. My mother has enough conflicting information and excuses in her head that she started to buckle sometime after "overlapping generation" came out. I am not saying she will ever let go of her JW beliefs, but I think deep down inside, she knows she's not going to see Armageddon in her time.
You keep asking questions if you like. But don't expect rational responses. -

Pharaoh tries to kill all male babies - later Moses orders the very same thing!
by George One Time inso many things that i just discoved about the bible.. .
so from the book my book of bible stories, we all know how little moses was saved from a cruel pharaoh.
of course the king of egypt was afraid that those cute little babies would endanger his empire eventually.
-
OnTheWayOut
That's a very good point. We are supposed to be horrified that Pharoah would kill all those babies, but we are supposed to forget the horror and just say that killing all those Midianites, including babies, was because they were a nation against God. Those children had nothing to do with any issues or wars.
And don't forget WHY they kept the girl children alive- now there's a horror story.
