Ex JW's - Which Christian denomination are you with now and why?
by Truthexplorer inthis is a question for ex jw's who have joined another christian faith group.
the purpose of my question iis to find out which christian faith group you chose after leaving watchtower and what convinced you to travel this new spiritual path you are on.
i am interested to know because i personally would like to find a genuine faith group where i can feel true christian liberty as i initially thought i had with the witnesses.

Definitely:
Blood, Shunning, Obey
I tend to agree on birthdays, holidays, celebrations. Not celebrating isn't so terrible as many holidays are Hallmark creations or full of hype, but making children feel bad about desiring some birthday cake and isolating JW's from their non-JW family at times when all are gathering is just absolutely horrible.
I would add to "Forbidding any research" - bashing all education beyond basics. They actually scoff at this and this is for their own reasons. It turns out that education is the answer to "everything." That includes figuring out that JW's are a dangerous mind-control cult.

dubstepped: Gotta love how a person asks for help finding religious faith, a question that really doesn't need all of the God bashers' responses, only to find the atheists overwhelming the thread. This is why I don't even try to have intelligent discussions on here of any type of faith, not even asking well intentioned questions to see where I might stand. The God haters are every bit as rabid as those that love them some God, just here to proselytize and tell you how wrong you are for being different from them. Put a bag in their hands with science books in it, send them to the doors, and it's the dubs all over again.
Notice the reason the thread exists: ...I personally would like to find a genuine faith group where I can feel true Christian liberty as I initially thought I had with the witnesses.
We are not preaching atheism door-to-door. We are offering our perspective to someone who is in a similar place to where we were. We hope to convey helpful insights to someone so that they may move on with their life. I don't speak for others, but I do not share my atheism at all outside of the proper place (internet forums) unless others ask, and I don't browbeat them with "Are you stupid?" types of questions if they have beliefs.
If someone asks how to find a bar of gold under a pile of cow manure, are we to ignore the question because we are 100% sure that bar of gold doesn't exist, therefore the question wasn't for us?

Please define "true Christian liberty" for this thread.
Seems like a double oxymoron. "True" doesn't relate to "Christian" as "Christian doesn't relate to "liberty."
My path was similar to that of The Girl Next door.

The new Fred Franz?
by careful inof course, no one could ever fully replace "our oracle for over 50 years" (ray franz quoting karl klein or someone else on the gb back in the days of gb i in cofc somewhere ), but i have to wonder just who on gb ii has come to fill fred franz's shoes the most.
it seems like it is david splane.
he appears to be in charge of the writing department, proposes and pushes thru the gb most of the doctrinal changes (he announces them so they're his baby), and like ff, fancies himself musically inclined.

There are about 1300 mega churches in the USA (membership in individual church exceeds 2000). The largest is probably that of Joel Osteen. There's still televangelists galore. If there are that many gullible people who believe their pastor should be believed no matter what he says, there's room for someone to come along and replace Freddy.
But I don't think that "someone" is on the current GB. Give me a break - overlap generation. "Accept whatever we say even if it seems kind of goofy." (Paraphrase) "We aren't in money trouble, but we are in money trouble."
It is ripe for a hostile takeover likened to the one Joe Rutherford did. The next Freddy could come out after that happens.

Creative day 7000 years, is this correct and how did the Org come up with this idea?
by Crazyguy inany body know?

I am sure One Eyed Joe has it right more or less. Later, they said creative days were "several thousands of years" long, so old JW'S would think "Yeah, 7 thousands" and young people with access to science at school would think "millions" and Watchtower would never admit they were previously wrong.

Atheists and Christmas
by nicolaou inyes, we can enjoy christmas!.
we can put up and decorate a xmas tree, wrap and give presents and get the whole section of non-jw family round for a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings - yum!.
we don't feel guilty about getting time off work and relaxing in front of all those cheesy xmas movies (baby's day out is still my favourite).. so if, unlike me, you want to frame your festivities in a story of a magical baby go right ahead, this thread isn't about belief bashing.. whatever your definition of the 'true meaning of christmas', mine is just as valid; it's the celebration of my freedom, my ability to choose how to live my life and who to share it's joys with.. so let this rabid, godless, antichrist of an atheist wish you all a very merry christmas!

We can give up Christmas if Christians that give all credit to God will give up doctors and medicines and stick with prayer. -

A question .....
by Landy inhi guys - new poster here.
i was brought up a jw in the uk and stopped going not long after i was married.
that was 20 years ago so i'm not really up to date with the current doctrinal flip flops or the new youtube obsessed gb.. came across this site while googling the name of a local elder who's just been convicted of possesion of a pc full of unpleasant pics of kids.. so, my question.

So why do you do it? It's hard work for no gain. Why not just call it quits and fade away?
Even though people will give their answers that virtually always include loved ones, they should ask themselves your questions. Some could very well leave.
