i'm retired but am happy to do a little bit part-time.. this morning i called to rectify some work he'd had done by a not-so expert "tradesman".

I would rather listen to your review than actually watch the Watchtower crap. Thanks for that. -

45 Minute Bethel Video about Changes (downsizing) at Watchtower
by OnTheWayOut ini don't see this posted elsewhere, and i don't have the links besides this facebook one.. but here is a 45-minute long bethel talk about the changes at bethel including addressing the hard feelings of people who were given the axe.
basically, everything must change.
we gave remaining bethelites saturday off to do our bidding in "the field" and we give bethelites over 70 an extra day a week off (if you can find any such bethelites).

Jookbeard, thanks for your thoughts. It's always just been a money scam.Sparrowdown, that's right. As long as they sacrifice, Watchtower can twist it and use it anyway they want to.

Pepperheart, nice thought. I think it's going to be a very slow death, so I am not getting my hopes up. But I have a small hope that I am wrong.Village Idiot, I do not know anything about how the company hatchet man job works, how these things are decided. I know it's cold and heartless. Thanks.
Sparky1, you gotta love such statements- "Jehovah loves you." I suppose if the laid off Bethelites make enough noise, the rank and file will be told how it's a sifting work to weed out prideful ones.
Crazyguy, yup. I think many will have social security though. But they won't have much else.
Village Idiot, only the ones who don't STFU will see that, I think. Most will get a cot in some JW family basement.
Diogenesister, anything to keep the money from Headquarters. How about they mail all their receipts from helping out former Bethelites, and say "Include that in our monthly donation."bobld, sooner or later, the hatchet man has to go, too.

baldeagle, you are free to think as you will. I'm going to say that many of those Bethelites were genuine in their desire to do what's right. Heck, I was an elder and never cared for the title, just thought Jehovah wanted me to do that. But some are/were as you describe.wannaexit, I wish they would stop sending money. Most won't.
JW GoneBad, you got it. They are a whore.
lambsbottom, they did need to get a real job, true- back in the day. And yes, they need to get over the deal they were dealt. But I must say, some of "us" have forgotten what it is like to be totally duped. Life Is To Short could help us out here with what happened.

Dagney, I found it "condescending [with] droning voices" also. How many years do you suppose a laid off Bethelite can say "It's so close" ? I say it's short.Data-dog, Dumbasses, indeed.
LITS, only if you are up to it, perhaps already in a bad mood, watch this video. But I wish you well on that.
Lieu, it is all about dumping the cost of caring for them. I was given the impression, when I joined, that as long as Bethelites were faithful, they would be able to stay in some assignment for their whole life. I think their videos long ago showed some elderly Bethelites straightening hangers or some other menial tasks. It's just another thing I had wrong about the cult. They are heartless. I hope it backfires, too.
SafeAtHome, I would love to hear some horror stories, but I think they are informed ahead of time to make plans. I imagine those without family support are steered to congregations that can help instead of "Mother" doing it.
Freeandclear, if only it was a joke.
zeb, we were all fools. Many still are.
Startingover, excellent scriptural application.

Wifibandit, the link still works even though the direct post of the video is gone. Thanks for providing it.ttdtt, Sorry. I was looking for it, but there was no mention of "video" in the brief search I did, and "The Big House Forced Exodus" is extremely appropriate, but I didn't catch that either. I just wanted people to know about it.
kairos, I rarely watch anything from Watchtower. I had a 2011 New Year's Resolution not to read or view their material at all, but I am not "religious" about it. It's just that Bethel layoffs were a huge part of my awakening.
Jahalapeno, I think the guy is just piling on with good things they changed over time for Bethelites. And since Karaoke and life-long health insurance are not on the list, they refer to old stuff like giving people one or two days out of seven off. I love how they say that "day off" can be used for recruiting.
millie210, yeah. I usually do the same.
B. Bonds, I have to agree. WTF did they expect. It was touted as life long. Thanks for sharing.

Beliefs About What Caused the Universe
by Perry inthe universe can be observed to be expanding.. an expanding universe must have had a beginning.
whatever begins to exist had a cause.
therefore the universe had a cause.
-
OnTheWayOut
The Causer that caused the Space-Time Universe to exist must by necessity exist apart from space-time. Otherwise if he was part of the space-time system, then he would have had a beginning and would also have need of a cause.
Existing outside of the space-time universe solves the problem of needing a first-cause for our observable existence, while at the same time providing insight into the uniqueness of this first cause.Believers make arbitrary rules that seem to make sense on the surface, then expand to say why God doesn't need to be part of the rules. I am sorry. If there are some universally accepted rules about this, they apply to a creator as well.
Because here's what I can do with your rules. The Matter Energy that became the stuff of this Space-Time Universe must by necessity exist apart from space-time. Otherwise if it (not "he" for it was not living in any way) was part of the space-time system, then it would have had a beginning and would also have need of a cause.Existing outside of the space-time universe solves the problem of needing a first-cause for our observable existence, while at the same time providing insight into the uniqueness of this first cause. The stuff that created the universe came through a black hole. It existed outside of our space-time universe and none of our laws applied to it before it came through.
You see- I don't really believe what I just wrote above. But it can be made to sound equally as sound as "God existed outside of [whatever I need him to exist outside of to apply my rules.] Instead of God, we use matter/energy. Or we can go the opposite and keep finding a need for a creator of each creator.
OR we can start again. We are here, we don't know why. Let's explore as many options as we can to theorize how our universe began. But we won't get anywhere if we just insist that the book from the ancient goat herders, the one that justifies slavery and treating women as secondary citizens and has stories that clearly are wrong by the evidence, is the end-all of our exploration into the science.
Science doesn't care what Perry believes and facts don't line up for Perry's fairytale. I know, it's hard to accept. But I know you want us to keep telling you this. That's why you keep coming here for us to talk you down from that "leap of faith."

by LisaRose ini found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.
