such was the case about six months ago when my boss asked me to stay over on a sunday night to watch the store while a floor cleaning crew did a strip and wax.. now with my self being a former jehovah's witness, i already knew that a great deal of the jw's owned and operated their own floor cleaning buisnesses, and there was a good chance that the floor crew on that sunday night would more than likely be a jw operation.. when the guys first walked in, i just had a feeling that my hunch was right.

You're right, no argument there. I never said JW's were the ONLY ones who do this. I just resent the hypocrisy of many elders and "higher up's" in the org. JWs are constantly being told to "obey the laws" and "give a good witness" in everything they do, whether it's the way they dress, how they speak, what kind of music they listen to, etc. When a long standing elder knowingly employs illegal immigrants, that's hypocrisy at it's finest.

Instead of zeroing in on faults, why not try virtues? Think we don't have any?

If you're here to read comments about how great and wonderful JW's are, then you are most certainly in the wrong place. I don't know who you are, but it sounds like your an active JW(?) If so, I wish the best for you. I have nothing personally against you, because I don't know you.

What wonderful chuch do YOU go to? Or are you just someone keeping to yourself while criticizing those that try?

None. I have recently severed my ties with JW's after 14 years of enslavement. I don't criticize anyone who 'tries' to find his/her own way to spiritual contentment. I just simply have no tolerance for the hypocricy among certain (not all) JWs, and I make no apologies for that.

How did the "Truth" set YOU free ?

the bible says that the truth will liberate you or set you free.. the watchtower applies this to their religion as if their "truth" sets people free.. if that's the case, how were you set free when you became a jw?.

It freed me of a lot of my time and money.

As I look back, it's hard to grasp how we didn't see the prison gate slamming shut right in front of our faces when we were first assimilated. They took away our love of music, our friends, our hobbies, our good family relationships, holidays, a normal wedding ceremony, MONEY, energy, good paying jobs, I could go on and on. And what did they replace it with? Guilt, control, lies, innuendos, shallow "friends" who never really were, "counsel" for the dumbest things, unfeeling and unsympathetic elders, CO's, DO's, guilt for our seeking medical care for our son who needed surgery at a place supposedly "notorious" for obtaining court-ordered blood transfusions. Again I could go on.

The REAL truth set us free, and that is that the WTS is nothing but a high control group exacting absolute obedience, even if they said to jump off a cliff. In fact if they said to jump off a certain cliff, I'm positive that most JW's would go find an even higher one just to show how obedient they are.

I applied to a university yesterday.

after a few years of humming and hawing, i decided i would.

it was more of what i would take that held me back then if i should go.. i'm only 28, so i'm not too far behind.

we'll see how working full time and going to school will go.

Ah, your're still young. You'll do great. Little Drummer Boy went back to college 3 years ago in his early 30's. He had a definite advantage over the just-out-of-high school-er's, because he had to pay himself (not his parents), and he was just more level-headed and better organized than some of his younger classmates. By the way, he just graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

I, myself, in my early 30's, am taking a distance education course through a college to "upgrade" my nursing degree to RN. Right now, I'm an LPN.

Since leaving the borg, I have found that my whole way of viewing my future is very liberated. No longer do I have to "wait on Jehovah" to make my life better. I can make my life better NOW. It's difficult to study and work full time and be a wife and mom, but I'm doing it. It may take me longer than I originally planned, but I fully intend to finish.

Turn them in to the congr.

Well, that's the problem. The other elders in the cong. have been aware of it all along. They just bury their heads in the sand because they are all friends, and they've all been elders in the KH for 20-30 years. Part of my gripe with the cong. has always been that it's very stagnant. Same old elders, same old families, they all pat each other's backs, so nothing is ever wrong on their part. The elder in question has been the WT conductor for as long as I've known. We were assimilated about 14 years ago, and he was the WT conductor then and still is (as far as I know). He has always been very close friends with the Presiding Overseer (who's also annointed, for what that's worth). So, as always, nothing will change. But, I don't care anymore 'cuz I'm OUT! It would make my day if he was audited by the IRS.

We experienced this first hand. We subcontracted office cleaning accounts from a long-standing elder in our former congregation. It was well-known that he hired illegal immigrants to clean for him. He gave the same stupid reasoning, that they were here in the US to worship Jehovah freely and he was helping them by employing them. He felt as though this was a case of "Obeying Jehovah before the wordly government". It always bothered us that he was so pious about being an elder and never missed a meeting, etc. but willingly broke the law, and no one ever held him accountable.

We have a good 19 inches of snow on the ground now. It's bitter cold and windy. Drifts are rediculously high. They've extended our snow emergency until 5 p.m. today. Virtually EVERYTHING is closed-schools, county offices, banks, you name it. The only people out are ones who have a snow plow on their trucks. Even county snow plow trucks are getting stuck. Exwitless.

Sorry to hear about the ice and power outages. We currently have 17" on the ground and 1-3 more are on the way. The drifts are really bad. Everything is closing for tomorrow; we're under a snow emergency. Our blizzard warning will continue until tomorrow a.m. This is definitely a record-breaking blizzard for our area.

Mrs.Jones-how's it looking for your interview tomorrow? They've officially called a snow emergency where we are, so we could get a hefty fine if we're out driving except in special circumstances.

How are the rest of you Hoosiers doing? So far, we have approx. 11 inches on the ground; the snow has been dumping down since midnight last night and hasn't stopped; in fact, it won't stop until after midnight tonight. The winds are very strong. I just walked down our long driveway to get the newspaper and it was brutal!!! Even with boots and a snowsuit on! The snow hitting my face hurt, and the wind chill factor is about -11 F. I shoveled off our back step about 45 minutes ago, and now there's a good inch piled up again on it. I'm going to go make some hot chocolate now. Stay warm and safe, everyone.

What was the most hypocritcal thing you saw at the kingdom Hall ?

here's one that comes to mind : are c o gave a sunday morning talk i remember and the theme of the talk was " the dangers of materialistic desires ".

well after the meeting me and my jw buddies who usually hung out by the cars in the summer were checking out what was a brand new black chysler imperial, big and beautiful with .

burgundy leather interior we were just wowed and we wondered who owns that ?

Being encouraged not to work for material things...as a newly married couple, we gave up good paying jobs to have a cleaning business (LONG story) and bought a mobile home because we thought it would be materialistic to build a brand new home, even though we could have afforded it if we had kept our good jobs. Now the elders and their wives in our former congregation all have really nice houses, some of them built brand new, nice cars, nice furniture, go on vacations to Europe frequently, and so on.

Another one...constantly being hounded about "regular meeting attendance"; who would you guess were the most likely to miss meetings often? ELDER'S WIVES. Most of the elder's wives missed the meetings very frequently; usually because they 'had a headache' or 'were worn out'. Jeez-if I missed a meeting every time I had a headache or was worn out, I would've never attended a single meeting! And, to boot, most of the elder's wives didn't work outside the home. But heaven forbid, if you were a rank-and-file JW, you couldn't miss one meeting without someone calling saying "We missed you at the meeting...(silence, as they wait for your excuse)"; never mind if you worked full time and had kids and so on.
