a saddam quote, from today:
The people of Baghdad have resolved to compel the Mongols of this age to commit suicide on its walls, Saddam said, referring to the United States. Everyone who tries to climb over its walls ... will fail in his attempt.
so, saddam thinks any attempt at overthrowing his government, by force, will fail. so, is he foolishly confident because he is a madman who thinks he cannot be overtaken? or is he confident because he knows he has wmd to use in defense? either way, one of your points/opinions must be incorrect. let me know which one you think it is.

Saddam has a right to defend himself and his country. Same as us.

you are implying that the sanity level of saddam hussein, and the government we have in place are on equal planes. if that were so, i dont think wed be having this debate, because no one would be after him in the first place!

i wrote that as half sarcasm.....it was you that originally implied the only reason saddam has wmd is for self defense. do i think thats the only reason for him to have them? hell no, i think thats completely ludicrous.
If that is the only reason to have WMD, why, exactly, do we need all the weapons that we have?
thats what i was asking of saddam in the first place! why does he need them? you replied "self defense", which i think is just plain naive. if you can read the sarcasm in my yellow bolded statement in you post....does it start to make sense?

so your only argument is that hussein is a mad man who hates the US in such irrational way that he would sacrifice his life for taking out one US target?
um, no, when did i say that was my only argument? you asked if i thought saddam was suicidal, and i answered yes and why. i dont think saddam would have to sacrifice his life to take out one u.s. target....that is just absurd. i dont assume that hell actually suicide bomb a target. but i do believe that he thinks he could get away with it, for a time, hell hes gotten away with all kinds of atrocities up till now, and he probably helped fund 9/11 for all i know. for all any of us know, hes got visions of someday ruling the world.....hes a madman, who knows what his exact plans are?

Are you saying that the USA who has more WMD than any other country is a maniacal dictator?
um, no, where did you get that idea? i wasnt saying saddam was a manical dictator because he has wmd, i was saying he is a manical dictator because he gasses his own people and tortures anyone who opposes him, including his family. then i sarcastically implied that if i was doing these types of things, id probably want some self defense too. hopefully this explanation helps.

Also, by your logic, you are implying that I do not have a right to arm myself.
why, are you saying that you are an insane lunatic? if so, then no, i dont believe you should have the right to arm yourself with chemical weapons, nukes, etc.

You keep implying that anyone who is cautious about a war with Iraq loves Saddam or what he stands for.
i havent tried to imply that.....i was merely responding to your suggestion that the only motivation for ousting saddam is that "his way is bad" and "our way is good", which i think is ridiculous.

realist-
nice try....im fully aware of the history behind the region, and iraqs place in it all......that doesnt change the fact that saddam has a hatred for americans, and just like bin laden, would love to see us all wiped out. there was a survey taken in kuwait, and 70% of those polled felt that the united states deserved 9/11, and then some. i wonder what the ratio would be with saddams people?

If I was Saddam, I would have me a couple of WMD too.
well, when youre a maniacal dictator who tortures anyone that opposes you, including your own flesh and blood...i suppose there would be a need for protection.......but i hardly think that wmd were only intended for self defense, and again, anyone buying into this type of logic....can i use the word naive again?
