  how do you define someone as anti-american?

  if you strongly disapprove of, say, america's foreign policies, yet basically have an affection for american people, does this still make you an anti-american?

  im not sure how you got that out of my post.?. show me the specific passages that confused you, and ill try to explain them better.......i just read it over again, and couldnt figure out how anyone would get to that conclusion.

  When the Hollywood film indistry stops appropriating war stories from WWII featuring other nations and re-writing history with Americans in the starring role (like U-571), I think you can get picky about English people laughing at the rather over-the-top mentality bespoken by such things; America almost sets itself up for criticism sometimes.

  yes, hollywood opens up the titles of our war missions to criticism. um, please pass it my way, i could use some of whatever youre smoking. the jason and freddy flicks show what a lack of respect america has for human life too, so that leads to extra scrutiny on our soldiers in battle.

  Find me a bulletin board where you have Brits claiming that Britain is the best country in the world, or French people claiming that of France.

  i dont think the brits or the french are that delusional, come on.

  Dubla. The reason I do not discuss things with you is because you do not stick to the issues but throw up irrelevencies and start picking on odd words like "oooh, you said always when it's actually only 99.995 % of the time"

  i said that because i really dont have any interest in stooping to your playground antics. who is not sticking to the issue at hand here, really? you can say what you want about what you percieve my posting habits to be, however fictional those perceptions may be. the fact is you obviously have no response to me other than to try and derail the topic at hand, and you cant even back up your own ludicrous statements when called on them ("arguing over words").

  Thanks for reminding me ... I forgot the other "arguments" used along with "urgh, you're being Anti-American":

  • You are jealous
  • You're country is shite
  • The French are to blame for everything
  • We are responsible for winning WW II

  Of course, none of these are true.

  first off, i dont know that youve ever even tried to "reason" with me. your normal response to me is a yk- style, pompus, "im too far above you intellectually to waste my time with your petty nonsense"...followed by some smirky smily to show just how pointless my opinions are. secondly, your above example makes no sense whatsoever. if you could show, by my posting history, that i had a pattern of making negative comments about the u.k. and/or the british, then youd have a solid point. when have i ever made such wild accusations with no backing, as you imply i have? eman started this thread asking how to identify someone that is anti-american. i answered with a paragraph of patterns to look for.....for the purposes of this forum, posting habits. your response to that was to say i was "arguing over words", whatever that means. can you explain how my first post on this thread was "arguing over words"? if youre just going to come back with another one or two liner attempting to further berate me, then dont bother........... if youre going to attempt intelligent discourse, then by all means reply. aa

  No, I don't think you have a point and just like to argue over words.

  well, to correct your confusion then......my point was that you can usually tell if someone is a bigot, even if they dont come right out and say they hate xxxx's (insert specific race, religion, sexual preference). i gave some examples to back up this idea, and it has nothing to do with arguing over words.

  imo, a lot of it has to do with attitude, not solely opposing views on specific topics. i think you can tell over a period of time if someone has an anti-american bias or not. do they jump in every chance they get to add their negative two cents about the latest controversy involving america? do they scream just as loud about similar actions by other countries? what is their general tone when discussing a topic that centers around the u.s.? are they always quick to criticize, or do they approach the subject with objectivity? do they look for things to criticize? are they just as quick to praise a good act as they are to criticize what they deem to be a wrong act? maybe this is too simplistic, i just think that attitudes (toward the u.s.) come accross over and beyond what the specific criticism may be.
  

  opposing the war doesnt make you anti-american, and even though many try to paint the picture that this accusation has been tossed around left and right, i really dont think there is a large number (if any) of posters on this forum that actually believe opposing the war makes you anti-american. but can a poster come accross as anti-american while opposing the war? i think so.....attitudes show through. for example, i remember a poster stating something to the affect that he opposed the war completely, but at least the british gave their missions more pc titles than the americans did (inferring that the british were still somehow on a higher plane). how ridiculous is that? whats the point of turning everything into a pissing contest? how picky do you have to be in your criticisms before it goes beyond simple policy opposition?

  i personally think its easy to tell the difference between someone simply opposing some american policies, and someone making it a point to oppose and criticize damn near everything america has done, is doing, and will do. do we really need a definition to spot these patterns?

  well, the upcoming nfl season is about to start in two days, with my team the new york jets being involved in the opening game.

  now i was a little discouraged when our starting qb chad pennington (the best in the nfl) went down earlier in the preseason with an injury that will keep him out for more than half the season, but fortunately for the jets, they're one of the few nfl teams with a backup qb that can be a quality starter, so i don't expect that we will have much of a drop off with vinny testaverde taking the reigns temporarily.

  he'll surpass 40,000 career passing yards this year, and he also has a stronger arm than does pennington, so look for deep plays to the wide receivers.

  Remember the 2-5 start last season? They know how to win when it counts. The Patriots won a Super Bowl a couple of years ago despite a 1-3 start, and that will be the Jets record after Sunday.

  so.....better start digging through the nfl history books to find an 0-4 team that actually accomplished something (besides getting the first pick in the draft)......i probably shouldnt be rubbing this in so bad, but its just too much fun watching the jets stumble and bumble their way to the bottom of the entire nfl.......even the bungles have their first win (i told you they were playing better than the jets). at least you can take comfort in the fact that they definitely wont lose this week.

  oh, im not too excited about the dolphins yet.....of course they have to prove themselves in december....ive been a dolphins fan long enough to realize that september and october mean nothing. theres no denying that they completely shut down a team that was supposedly one of the best 2 or 3 in the nfl last sunday night though.

  i dont blame you for keeping the faith (however blind it may be) with your jets, and if there was ever a winnable game on their plate, its against the cowboys this week. the word is that vinny is about to get benched, and if they dont win this week, brooks bollinger is going to be the starter in new york until pennington gets back........so youd better hope for vinnys sake they get a W.

  a saw a pole on espn.com the other day that asked "who is the worst 0-3 team?".....the jets were a close second behind cincy (personally, i think cincy has been playing better). lets face it, the jets roster looks like a vh1 episode of "where are they now?"......curtis martin is on his last leg, vinny doesnt have what it takes to win a big game anymore....and curtis conway....a number one reciever? are you serious? top it all off with the fact that you have the worst offensive coordinator in the entire league, and youve got a long season ahead of you.

  btw.....a punter throwing to a center isnt going to get you too many completions.....nice call herm.
