  i appreciate you not wanting to get too sidetracked on this one..... personally i have no stance on the original debate, so im just pointing out things as i go (sometimes when something strikes me as funny, i just have to comment). we dont have to stretch this way out, but i will clarify what i was saying. again, thank you for the lengthy reply, and all the reasons why santa and god are similar. i think that although these are very cute analogies, they bear zero signifigance to the question i asked. let me repeat my question, then ill explain.......

  would you really have us believe that....this myth is a valid comparison to the reasons people believe in jesus?

  here i was referring to the "reasons" people believe in jesus vs. the "reasons" santa claus is believed in, which is what your first post was indicating.....namely that the spread of christianity could be likened to the myth of santa claus. i wasnt actually asking if santa and god were similar, though it may be a humorous little comparison (sort of like those, "why your beer is better than your woman" posters). i think the "reasons" people believe in jesus (bible writings, being backed up by the reasons people believe the bible to be true, i.e, fulfilled prophesies, etc.), are very different then the "reasons" children believe in santa (because their parents deliberately decieve them, and they arent old enough to know better yet), and it would be "ridiculous" to propose that they bear any resemblance whatsoever. hopefully this helps clear up my statements/questions.

  you claimed i was way out of place for calling your remarks "ridiculous" the last time, but i cant help it, i have to use the word again. this comparison seems awfully ridiculous to me.....

  Well, there were many reasons why Christianity spread, and none of them have anything to do with it being based on truth. Santa Claus is widely believed in too...

  would you really have us believe that number 1, santa claus is really that "widely believed in"(we must be counting children here), and number 2, this myth is a valid comparison to the reasons people believe in jesus? um, give me a break.

  also, i find it interesting that your posts to ron are increasingly relying on cross-referencing and reasoning (with the use of other scriptures).......i do not call attention to this because i feel its an inappropriate way to argue, rather, i draw attention to this because you have testified (repeatedly) that its an inappropriate way to argue. i guess its situational? sometimes bringing in thoughts and understandings from other scriptures is acceptable, and sometimes it isnt acceptable until the meaning of the FIRST scripture in question is determined/agreed upon?? i would attest (and youve been showing here yourself) that it is important to look at other scriptures in order to determine the context and meaning of the scripture in question. but i was under the impression that this didnt fit into your approach of using only "exegesis".?.

  The point of the original post in this thread is that the God portrayed in the bible is into mass murder. I have seen a whole lot of squabbling but I haven't seen anyone refute this.

  -i agree that the post is way off target now, and i agree that this fact is indisputable. its stupid to argue against it.

  it is not my intent to be slippery, and i did not say you were speaking of critisizing bible teachings. THAT WAS IN REPLY TO BBOY, go back and read it, youll see what i was replying to.

  Of course anyone can say someone SHOULD live by certain laws or standards....

  as i said in my last post, this is not what no1 was saying in the first place, so my initial point on this is mute. you can keep discussing it if youd like, but its really pointless.

  bboy is inadvertently helping my case, and helping me explain where i was coming from in the first place.

  You cannot disocunt his argument because he dosent beleive in the bible. just as you have every right to critisize the laws that another country issues even though you are not bound by them.

  -exactly. and i never said that no1you didnt have the right to critisize the bible teachings, i said he/she shouldnt be telling someone they shouldnt be acting a certain way (like christ), if they he/she didnt believe that christ existed. now your example is perfect bboy. youre right, i have the right to critisize those laws even though i am not bound by them. but would i tell someone they SHOULD live by those laws, when i myself do not believe in them? absolutely not.

  really the point is mute now, for no1 is claiming thats not what he/she meant in the first place. he was just "pointing out that" someone "was indeed following in his masters footsteps" by acting the same way as his master, jesus. this is fine, and no1 is right, i was inadvertently starting a new topic instead of commenting on his. you see, i was WAY off base here, ASSUMING that his/her comments were meant to be SARCASTIC. i had no idea he/she was serious.

  i wasnt ever commenting on REM's argument, i was responding to no1youknow. next time you want to jump into a conversation, you might want to read all the posts first and get it straight.

  nice try, but i think youre missing the point here. have you ever taken those tests, you know, like iq tests? theres these questions like, "if all boxes are red, and all plates are boxes, are all plates red?"....remember those? lets use this as a somewhat similar example......

  okay, so weve esablished that "you", whoever "you" is, cries about "those who believe rules dont apply to them".

  I think all the rules apply to me

  so now weve established that all the rules do indeed apply to nytel. so now the question is, who was the first "you" crying about? certainly not nytel, right? so the question i was raising (and the reason it sounded contradictory to me), is this: if this "you" isnt crying about you(nytel), then why would you use that statement in this thread, as a sort of defensive statement? youd be hard pressed to say you were not referring to yourself in this context.
