  The Dixie Chicks

  i don't understand the logic of boycotting the dixie chicks because of the comments the singer made about being ashamed that bush is from texas.

  it doesn't make sense to me.

  keep in mind that i'm just a canadian, so maybe i'm just not tuned in to the american way of thinking.

  ....it's entirely different when bloated, powerful media conglomerates use their muscle to snuff out the work of successful artists like the Dixie Chicks, solely for their stated political views. The Dixie Chicks have recently found it very difficult to get airplay, despite overwhelming past success at it. Allowing a few big media conglomerates to censor artists for their political views is unamerican....

  i could be mistaken, but from the programs i saw on this, the radio stations quit playing their music because they would be boycotted otherwise. in other words, perhaps the stations couldnt care less what the dixie chicks political views are, but they sure arent going to sit back and lose half (1/2 is probably a conservative estimate in some areas) of their listeners over one group..........makes sense to me.

  Who watched the American Idol sing-off tonight on Fox?

  i thought reuben was superb on all 3 of his songs; clay sang the best only on his 3rd song.

  just because clay sang a great final few notes on his 3rd song, doesn't mean he deserves to be american idol.. my best friend and i hope reuben wins, but believe clay will get more votes.. earlier today i heard bleach-blond frenchie who got booted off for her topless photos sing on a morning show...she would have blown the competition out of the water!

  We even expressed our thoughts the same way. Eerie.. we may be more alike (especially after clarifying our political views on current events) than I originally thought.

  thats just it....you cant turn it.....its blasted all over the internet, every news channel (including cnn streaming updates about who was voted off).....and how many magazine covers at the gas station are devoted to american idol right now? 5? 6? of course we cant forget the commercials, more commercials, and then a few commercials..........did i mention the barrage of commercials?

  Political campaigns disgust me

  i do not care if you endorse the republican party, democrats, independents, or even the green party.

  but to see such inordinate amounts of money go into campaigns disgusts me.

  the economy is flailing and people are homeless and starving, all the while these fatcats live high off the hog and mingle at dinners while kissing one another's asses.. this is not a post directed specifically at any candidate.

  okay....got to see (or more accurately, got subjected to) some of last nights big freakin hoo hah finale.....and it just epitopized exactly what reborn and i were talking about......OVERKILL CITY! give me a break.....counting down votes by state? what is this, the presidential election now?

  and do they have to actually REPEAT what simon, paula, and randy said about each person after they sang? wasnt hearing the critique the first time enough? nope, ryan has to repeat it..."after rueben sang ____, randy said:..blah blah, paula said:...blah blah, and simon said....blah blah..........hype, double hype, triple hype, OVER hype.

  then of course theres the requisite "we are the world" song and dance with all the finalists....how much more can the public handle? obviously it hasnt been enough yet, as the ratings are soaring.........i cant wait for next season......maybe theyll devote five nights a week to american idol.....four nights of build up, and then vote counting on fridays.....or maybe voting on fridays and the vote count on saturdays, so they can squeeze in six episodes.....yeah thats it.

  now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!

  perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.

  now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

  Hmm, well, where is this solid evidence?

  maybe we should start a whole new thread if youd like to debate whether or not there was solid evidence against o.j. (lets not completely hijack this one).........i can start digging up links and facts for you on the mountain of evidence, which incidentally was enough to convict on the second time around, if you remember correctly.

  he shouldve been convicted during the first trial, imo, and he should be rotting in a jail cell right now instead of golfing 36 holes a day. but, that just goes to show you that some people will refuse evidence when presented with it.

  The US did change the rules. They did shut France out in the UN as much as the French stood in the way to protect Saddam's butt.

  im sorry, but i just cant agree with you that the "u.s. changed the rules"........like i said in my last post, the ENTIRE u.n. security council (including, yes, france) supported a preemptive strike against iraq....what they didnt agree on was the timing of it. if france didnt support a preemptive invasion, they wouldve voted "no" for resolution 1441........theres no getting around the fact that res.1441 called for military action if iraq did not comply. whether or not iraq complied fast enough was where all the hair splitting came into play.....half of the u.n. thought it was time, the other half did not. the half that did think it was time, acted.

  It would be nice to try to have a consensus. Someone needs to see both sides. There are more than one [side] here.

  I can understand why so many fear the saber rattling & the Governmental power. Can you?

  first off, i dont think youve really read my posts on the issue as a whole......if you had, youd see that i have indeed bent toward the other side on plenty of aspects of it. i agree that we need to look at both sides, and i agree that most absolutely refuse to do this. can i understand why so many fear the governmental power? absolutely....becuase i fear it as well. i fear the reprecussions of the new precedent, and i dont for one second think that everything that comes out of this is going to be flowers and rainbows. sometimes the good outways the bad.....and my hope is that this will ring true in regards to whats taken place in iraq. i think the jury is still out though, and it could very well come back to haunt the world at some point.

  ok, i just used that question to get the ladies responses.. this week's news coverage had to do with a annika sorensen, a professional female golfer competing in a men's golf tournament.

  according to the no spin zone o'reilly show, the majority of the people gave a thumbs down for a woman to compete in a man's tournament.

  You are correct, women do play a big role in the corporate world. Men also play a big role in the corporate world, so shouldn't they be allowed to play on the LPGA tour ????? Let's be fair here. Bug

  and why theyre at it....why not just mix every sport? i want to see women on the cowboys offensive line, and men being allowed to play womens volleyball....women banging around on the nba court, and men of course being allowed to play in the wnba......in fact, why do we even seperate womens and mens olympic events? why not just throw everyone into one big competition in each event and see who comes out on top? wouldnt that be the best way to do it without discriminating?

  well, im not sure what part you would like to "debate"........as far as this being a new chapter in american foreign policy, i suppose thats true to an extent....but i think way to much emphasis has been put on the u.s. making the decision to invade iraq. whenever the subject is talked about, it always sounds as if we went at this unilaterally, which is far from the truth......the decision was made by many, the timing was decided by the u.s./u.k......ill elaborate:

  So Dubla WMD or not how do you justify a preeminate invasion by yesterdays standards? IMO you can't; we have supported writing a new chapter in American and world history.

  yesterdays standards? i suppose thats semantics....but what do yesterdays standards have to do with the threats we face today? as far as justifying a preemptive invasion, all i would say is that the u.n. security council unanimously voted in favor of a preemptive invasion of iraq if they failed to comply with res.1441.......so again, its not just the u.s. and u.k......the ONLY thing the u.n. security council was divided on was the TIMING of the invasion.....some wanted to drag out the process longer. i would also point out that the u.n. was split right down the middle on the timing of the war, which means in and of itself that half of the council agreed 100% with the decision to go to war when we did. and how many nations backed the u.s./u.k. war plan once the decision was made to go forward? forty to fifty (cant remember the exact number)? again, far from a unilateral decision........so, when it comes to ushering in a new chapter in world history, id agree that we have done that.......with worldwide backing.

  do i think its scary that this new policy has been set in place? yep. do i think it was necessary to oust saddam at some point, and that it was always going to come down to a preemptive strike? yep.
