Religion is just an excuse for the idle to get rich at the expense of the gullible.
Religion is a means for the controlling to exert their control over the gullible.
Religion - masochism controlled by sadists.
in the first century ,did not christians who took the lead , have to earn their own keep ?
and provide for their own sustenance ?
their are numerous texts that support that position are their not ?.

I err on that side too, if no such figure at all existed, where on earth did the very early sects/cults that followed him come from, and why ?
There was a trend occurring at the time that jesus was supposed to have existed. It's explained well in the Carrier vid. Basically, older religions were being merged to form new ones and sky gods were being given 'earthly' existences. If you really look at what supposedly happened to jesus, such as the resurrection etc., you will find that they happened to many sky gods before him. The parallels between jesus and other sky gods is either uncanny or jesus was based on one or more of these sky gods. I go for the latter because I still have issues with the fact that there were no contemporary reports of jesus. Also, between jesus' death and the gospels there was a sufficient period of time for all those that could have known jesus to have died. Therefore, they weren't in a position to dispute the accuracy of the gospels. IMHO, the jesus myth is a hoax and not even a good one. That said, people have fallen for it - or have the? Don't forget how many people christards had to kill to get their message across (100 - 200 million).
i'm not naming names, but i just want to encourage people on here or on reddit or twitter, and tell you that you do not have to tolerate people who act like schoolyard bullies in the way they speak to you online.
i think anonymity is a big part of it.
they feel like there is zero accountability so they can be a bully all they want.. i recommend just ignoring or blocking anyone who is verbally abusive or treats you like schoolyard bullies treated you.. life is way too short to spend any time dealing with those kinds of people..
Guys
I've not been here long but I feel like I've been here for ever. This place just kinda gels with me.
I'm a very "passionate" guy (no, I'm not talking in THAT sense), I "care" about most things. I think we should but that's just my personal opinion.
The one thing I "hate" with a vengeance and a "passion" is religion, especially jovies and katlickers. Things happened in my childhood that I'd prefer not to discuss. In one sense, I know that I should forgive, forget and move on. In another sense, I shouldn't because it's not fair that it should happen to others. If I can stop it happening to one other person, I will be satisfied.
For lots and lots of reasons, I am as sure as I've ever been of anything, without actual proof, that there is no god.
Religion is an evil institution that prays on the vulnerable in order to extract money and wield power.
There are those who would say that religion fulfils a need in Man. My answer to that is that the need was created by religion in the first place which it now pretends to meet.
I have no issue with ex-jovies/katlickers. I have no issue with those still 'in' physically but mentally out. Where I do have issues is with those that are in and wishing to persuade others to join their nest of vipers or anyone spouting illogical and superstitious nonsense about the Bronze Age Myth (AKA god) and using the excuse that one cannot disprove his existence as proof of his existence. What illogical nonsense
The thing that really ticks me off if this head bowing and praying nonsense. Man isn't perfect, it has to be said. He has done some terrible things, mostly in the name of religion strangely. However, he has done some great things too. He has done some great things in science, literature, art and music. He has survived all this time. He has earned his place in this universe. There is no need to bow and pray to anyone, least of all a make-believe god.
It's about time Man grew up, dispensed with this religious nonsense and moved on.
Anyone who requires man to bow his head to these make believe gods, and that includes 'ministers', 'elders', 'priests' and the like or persuades others to do so or acts as a 'template' for others shows disrespect for Mankind. These people I take issue with. These people I will likewise disrespect for they disrespect Man.
If some people see this as bully boy tactics, so be it. But, I will not show respect to people who show no respect for Man for they are undeserving.
So, if the OP had me in mind when they were referring to bully boy tactics, at least they will understand why.
Oh, I have received several emails of encouragement. My thanks for those.
"theism" here means "belief in a god" or "the worldview that an intelligent designer created the universe and life.
" ("god" here means a being with a mind who initiated and/or wound-up the universe, and designed life on earth)the most common claim that i see atheists making on twitter, is that "no evidence" exists in support of belief in a god.this post will remove any excuse atheists have for claiming "no evidence exists" in support of an initiator.
atheists can still reject this evidence as "weak," but they cannot truthfully say it does not exist.now, it is true that we do not have "observable, repeatable, falsifiable, empirical, scientific" evidence conclusively proving that an initiator exists, but we do have many lines of philisophical, experiential, and logical evidence.and... here... we... go:1:) many leading scientists, including stephen hawking, say that the space-time-matter universe had a beginning at the singularity/big bang.
A bloody good post Cofty. I couldn't agree more.
The balance of probability is way in favour of there being no god. Yes, it can't be proved, but that doesn't mean it should be given equal weighting with the premise that god does exist. That would be patently stupid.

Is this guy a locally known Apostate from another denomination? As in, has he in the past picketed, demonstrated, or gone all crazy like outside these conventions? If so, I wouldn't have spoken to him either!
And everyone he spoke to knew him?
If this had been me as a JW approached by a guy like this, I would spoken to him. What's to be afraid of?
The elders giving them shit?

"Jovian"?
A group of Crows is called a Murder
A group of Apes is called a Shrewdness
A group of Dunlins is called a Fling
Maybe a group of jovies is called a Braindeath, or an Automaton or a Brainwashing, or a Dump?
