Yes, at the risk of sounding sexist, my two boys are every bit as interested as getting stuff for Christmas and birthdays, but my daughter is just so much more organised about it. It's a girl-thing.
"Armageddon at the ATM" pops up every now and again, doesn't it? It's three years old now. I originally wrote it on H20 at Christmas 2000.

How they grow: last year, my 6-year old daughter wrote a letter to Santa.
This year, my now 7-year old daughter, newly savvy and technologically empowered, went through the Argos catalogue and constructed an excel spreadsheet:
Page, item no, description, cost, quantity.
it's that "quantity" that really got me. Brilliant. (It was 1 in every case)
I hope Santa's on e-mail.

she hated going out in service but since i hated it myself we didn't go do the door to door work much.
i look back now and i can't believe how controlling and un-loving that religion had made me.

religious claims are commonly unverifiable.
everybody and anybody can claim that they : 1) are god's true people.
and 2) have god's exclusive favor.. however, various scientists around the world are testing the idea that prayer can heal.

In a similar vein, I remember reading somewhere, can't remember where now - a magazine or newspaper article, where the writer was arguing that there was no need for such a statistical-based exercise to be undertaken on the healing power of prayer.
In the UK, for literally hundreds of years, MILLIONS of church-goers have prayed, relentlessly, week-in week-out, for the health and well being of the Sovereign and the Royal Family. It's part of the Church of England's Sunday morning ritual.
If there was even the TINIEST quantum of objective benefit in praying for someone, then, given the simply COLOSSAL amount of "prayer resource" directed at them, the British Royal Family, over the generations ought to have been the healthiest, fittest, most-disease-free, most absolutely tip-top specimens of humanity ever to walk the earth.
Sadly, history has shown that they sicken and die, like everyone (even if in considerably more comfort and luxury).

"Turning to you, Kevin, what are you hoping for, for City this year?"
"Well - I think we'll be doing alright if we can hold on to Premiership status this season, you know, just not finish in the relegation zone."
"Okay, thanks Kevin, Sir Alex? How about United?"
"Oh, I reckon United will win the Premiership, easy enough. Also the FA Cup, and the Champions League. After that, we'll have a little tour of Athens next summer and win all the Gold Medals in the Olympics. Then, probably, we'll tackle and put an end to all Disease, Hunger and Third-world poverty!"
"Come on, Sir Alex - now you're being ridiculous!"

i finally reached the 1000 post milestone today.
at an average of 1.07 posts per day i am not a heavy contributor to this board but i am a regular reader.
for a jedi the "force" is pretty weak in me and i rarely rattle my light sabre.. you may notice (or, since i rarely comment, not notice me at all) that i avoid commenting on inflammatory posts, i don't care for loonies or the prophets and don't waste my time reading let alone challenging the obviously wacky.
