I'm a portrait photographer and in my spare time I reconnect with my art by doing various 'studies." I would encourage you to choose a topic, theme, or subject and learn to photograph it in different ways. For example of the top of my head, take a candle. I would photograph it far back, close up, lit, un lit, showing the drippings down the side in natural sidelight or a puddle collecting on a table. What this enables you to do is open the pathways of your mind to different viewpoints. Just like going a different route for work in the morning causes you to create different neural pathways, this exercise will force you to look at life in a different light.
