Does the royal commission have the power to force how jws deal with how child abuse is handled. Yes! Threaten tax exempt status and the JWs will fall right into line with secular leadership. -

Flipper: Over a 1,000 cases not reported in just Australia ? Wrap your mind around the other hundreds of countries worldwide that WT Society and JW's inhabit and have inhabited for over 60 years
And this organization has been led by holy spirit to do this all these years? Profound holy leadership indeed!

Grandchildren pay for the sins of their parents.
by Bonsai inmy wife's mother just related to us an interview she heard during the recent three day convention that she just had to share with us.
a brother and his wife have, for over 20 years, shunned their daughter because she ran off and eloped with a worldly guy.
while openly sobbing, he related how difficult it has been to shun his daughter and avoid unnecessary contact with her and her family.

think I'll print these articles out, bring them to their house and make sure they are keeping contact with their grandchildren. I'll share these with my mother-in-law as well just in case we do DA
Are you sure that's what you want Bonsai? There comes a point when dealing with family that you may just have to let them go. Sometimes the cult wins.

Children don't understand why they have grandparents who don't want to have a close relationship with them or their parents.
I only meant that my children could figure out that i was not welcome. Not a very healthy situation.
My two children know only a very small amount about the witnesses they are both University Science people one is doing post graduate work and the other is graduating next year and then she is pursuing a law degree. So the shunning did not work in my case it only strengthened my resolve,

I paid the price for my parents delusional watchtower expectations. While I let my children know who their grandparents were with very limited association, most dealings with my parents regarding my children were conducted in a very business like manner. Sad way to do it. I was not welcome anyway and my children are not stupid and could figure that out on their own.
I was more on guard against any effort of my parents to indoctrinate my children than they were. I am sure that my parents acted as per elders instruction by dealing with them and me in a very limited way. My children are not paying the price I paid it for them and they are totally unaware of it now, as it should be.
So the cult only got to mess up two overlapping generations in my case, my parents and myself and my children are free!

JW ended a relationship with me

I agree with Rebel 100% I have two young daughters and if they were in your shoes I would tell them the same. If you go to a meeting the congregation will show what seems like friendly enthusiasm towards you (we call that love bombing) but its all phony. Just chalk it up to experience and move on. I would hate to see anyone succumb to the trickery of the Watchtower. -

If you "chose" this religion, as I did, do you remember the moment you "bought" the religion?
by Muddy Waters inif you "chose" this religion, as i did, do you remember the moment you "bought", or believed, the religion?.
for me, it was during one of my studies with a knowledgeable, lovely pioneer sister who looked like her life was so perfect and wonderful.
i was coming out of a terrible situation in my life, very vulnerable, being abandoned by a husband during my pregnancy and with other little children to look after too.

Thank you Muddy I am always curious what it was or is that causes people to finally accept the brain washing of this cult. My parents accepted it hook line and sinker and I am still some what puzzled as to what exactly it was that caused them to accept it. -

Ray Franz and You.
by John Aquila inif ray franz would have kept his mouth shut and not disfellowshipped, and remained part of the governing body how many of us ex-jw would still be trapped in the cult?.
would we have come this far?.

This used to be a very lonely row to hoe!
You can say that again was it ever! I shudder to think of it now! I was younger then. I would sure hate to be faced with the same departure scenario today at my stage of life.

Finkelstien: "Ray had no significance on my leaving the JWS, its was my own instinct and personal integrity that drew myself out.
"Pre inter net I might add."
Me too Finkel even to this day I have only read parts of that book.I have never read it in it's entirety.
Village Idiot same with you too eh.
For the life of me I can't explain why? I really can't!
Congratulations all on trusting your instincts.

Sam Herd’s comment on the 2001 Dateline expose
by Londo111 inim going by memory, so not an exact quote...i believe this was around 2002, at the crownsville assembly hall (now sold from what i understand)..
he said basically: some people watch an hour show and give up the faith that theyve had for decades..
the impact of this show was like a canon being shot into a swimming pool.

I wonder how many witnesses who watched it were hung up on the word "church" which is outside their brand of good mind control trigger words
I was wondering that too Bob
As a Father of two daughters who thankfully to me, were not raised "in the truth", I am sickened by all of this stuff too. Even if the JWs who see it get hung up on the cult phraseology, surely some will see the dateline report as eye opening.
