Whether to report the matter or not should not be a personal decision and sanctions should be imposed for NOT reporting an incidence of child abuse.

dont overstate matters.
the situation in oregon is a terrible tragedy.
the watchtowers policy on shunning likely contributed to the tragedy, it may have even been a primary factor but there are any number of other factors that could have contributed as well - too many to even mention!.
Its just that his spiral downward can be traced from the time he was disfellowshipped. I guess none of us will ever know all that was behind this heinous act, but we can see from reported event that after he left the organization, his business failed because most of his clients were witnesses, his family stopped talking to him, his friends in the congregation would not talk to him, his father left the business and he felt compelled to move out of his home town to start over. Now if the WTS was not directly responsible, I feel that they have a share in this tragedy.

anyone have any pet peeves they'd like to air?
here's one that just happened at work that is an annoyance for me: when you are speaking and the person interrupts the conversation with a corny play on words or the like.
for example, "i had to sit on the phone on hold for about 5 minutes, waiting .

Heartbreaking tragedy. This brings home clearly the damage that shunning can do to a family. We may never know exactly what when on in the father's mind before he took the lives of himself and everyone in his family, but surely the shunning he experienced from his family and his former congregation, and its consequences, aided in pushing him over the edge.

since leaving the organism i have had a problem with emotional situations.
i have bee labeled "bp", for those that don't know what bp is.....it is bi-polar.
what i am finding is that anyone that shows a behavior that is not in the norm....they are labeled bp.. we are given lithium and a meriad of other me's to correct this "condition".
Dear Dazed: Don't give up yet, please. I'm sure that there are many people on this Board who are totally not interested in being right all the time. Its just that some people have bigger mouths and some people are so insecure that there only validation comes from being right. I think that you are doing the right thing. Its just a waste of your time and your life to be in an organization that professes to a truth they do have have. Depression is the pits I know. I too felt a terrible depression but you may have to visit many doctors to get the right diagnosis. Anyway, just wanted to say that I always enjoy your posts and urge you to hang in there.

coming from a grossly dysfunctional family system, i found the wt religion attractive.
they had all the answers to life's problems or so they claimed.
i tried to be the best little jw ever and went by all the rules.
Judith, I enjoyed reading your story very much. I can relate to how you feel because I too have slowly come to the realization that the JW's do not have the truth. Getting rid of all your books is surely a sign of strength. I cannot bring myself to get rid of my books yet. I don't know why. Maybe its psychological, but I hope one day to be as strong as you are. My best to you.
