I went to many Catholic funerals and weddings over the years for my husband's family members. I attended weddings and funerals of other faiths for people I was friends with. I learned early on to keep my business to myself and not discuss it with anyone in the congregation. I received all kinds of moronic advice from people who were not in my situation, as well as being judged for what I had done, until I learned that lesson. Worrying about other people's consciences is only a way to keep control over the R&F. They can worry about their own damn consciences.

Jeepthing,
The time of the free meal is 5 to 7 today if you all want to partake. I was not sure on the time and checked with my husband this morning. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda, and a dessert like Little Debbie's or something like that. My husband sprang it on me this morning that I needed a dessert for everyone this morning and I went to Sam's Club yesterday, so I still have to run buy something today. Hope to see you there.

It is motocross, but we do sponsor at least one, sometimes two harescrambles. Also, we began last year to have races for quads as well, again motocross. Harescramble is for quads and motorcycles.

Tomorrow is rider appreciation day at Splinter Creek Dirt Riders in Fosterburg, IL. Free meal between 6 to 8, I believe is the time. Bonfire and band tomorrow night. Phone number is 372-4355 to call for details and directions. Then on Sunday is the last race of this season, which is a points race, so we expect a really big turnout. You can find me and my future daughters-in-law manning the concession stand, while my sons man the grill and my husband (the president of the club) is out running things.

St. Joe State Park down by Farmington, Missouri, also called Flat River. Great place to camp and ride your dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, or dune buggies. Also, swimming beach where you can pull up on your vehicle, dismount and go swimming. Warm showers.

We did used to go to Springfield for the convention. I always loved it because my youngest son, though he rarely made a meeting any more, would go with me and we would have a great weekend together. We'd always go in the evenings to Knight's Action Park or White Oaks Mall. But several years ago, our circuit started going to convention in St. Charles, MO. It's not nearly as nice as the Prairie Capitol Convention Center. The seats are more narrow and the parking's a nightmare. I have heard a lot of complaints about the place. But I hear the place in Springfield will no longer rent to JW's because of issues with the food vendors.

Back in the 60s, my brother always wore jeans to the hall and gave his talks in jeans. The other boys, what few there were in our congregation, wore jeans as well. Nobody had money to buy their kids suits then. I was disfellowshipped in 1975, and when I came back in 1983, all the boys from toddler age up wore suits. So I dressed my kids in suits, too. But as my sons got older, they rarely went to the hall as Daddy said they did not have to, and they went so rarely that I could not see spending money on suits for them, so they went in jeans and a nice shirt. Well, then they did not want to go to the hall even more because they were given dirty looks and comments on their apparel by adults and kids alike. I would have thought everyone would be glad just to have them come, but obviously not unless they were in the Watchtower uniform.
When I was first coming back in, I was pregnant with my third son. My husband and I did not have a lot of money and I had hand-me down maternity clothes, but also some nice maternity pants suits I wore to work. I did not have any dresses, so I wore the pantsuits to the hall. Well, one of the elders on local needs gave a talk stating that women were not to wear pants to the hall. At the time, I was trying to get reinstated and would do whatever was asked, not even questioning it or feeling they were wrong. But I could not afford to buy any maternity dresses right away, so I did not attend meetings for a whole month until I could afford to buy a couple of dresses just so I would be in compliance when I went. They may have thought I did not come because I was mad at what was said from the platform, but that was not the case. I felt at that time that they were right and that I would not go until I could be in compliance. Now I look back and think how crazy that was.

Gee, wish we could help your sister from Bloomington/Normal.
Ten years ago and last name starts with C. I will have to think about that. I bet they are at Metro, not Central. I used to know everyone over there, but not any more. Three sons and one daughter. Hmmm...

jeepthing,
You can e-mail me at [email protected]. I would like to know who you are talking about. There are a couple of elders in my cong. that I have wondered if they agree with everything and suspect not because of a couple of things I have heard one of them say and one of their wives say, but they do not fit who you are talking about.
