My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother. I hope that elder leaves you alone. It's enough you have to grieve without dealing with that. -

I have not read all the posts on this as I don't have time right now, but I wanted to add my 2 cents about what a wonderful letter you have written. Very well-spoken and puts the case so clearly. I am keeping a copy of it for future reference. -

It's not the same religion anymore.
by punkofnice inthat was a quote from a dyed in the wool jw recently.
it was a complaint.. we all know that with 'new light(tm)' that the watchtower corporation's version of 'religion' has kept changing for a long time.
since i remember.....and i go back a long way too.

I was born in 1952. My mother was studying with the witnesses then and it was not long before she was a staunch believer. I can say the Watchtower Society has changed immensely in all these years. When I was a child there was not the money grabbing that has been going on for decades now. There was a real sense of urgency in doing the preaching work. And when you went out in service, you did not take breaks. I can remember being so hungry by the time we got done and went home. The Kingdom Ministry, which I believe was called something like "Kingdom Service" back then, each month listed peaks of publishers in different countries and we were all so proud to see increases everywhere, but of course at that time it was not nearly in the numbers seen in later years. Their teachings were all wrong of course, but it seems to me there was a more defined sense of it - not all the waffling we have seen in later years (this is wrong - you can't do it; new light - now you can do it, etc.). It was very rigid, of course.
My observation is that as we have become more technologically advanced and information and communication have become readily available, they have had to make changes to stay in existence. And they have had to reduce meetings, etc. to let up on time restrictions on people in today's world. And the money hunger - just amazes me how people can follow along when they are constantly being fleeced. It just shows how deeply they are deceived.
In looking at the evolution over the years, I can clearly see the progression of corruption. This is a religious organization that just sickens me, but truthfully I have not a lot of respect for any religion.

"Why did Jehovah give us needs?" - An example of JW thinking...
by Goldenash inso i had a conversation with my brother some time ago.
i don't entirely remember how, exactly, but the following subject came up:.
"i wonder why god gave his earthly creatures needs... you know, like how we need water to drink, food to eat, air to breath, etc.

A prime example of J-dub think. Reminds me of the time my brother told me that the fact there were more and more animals in urban areas was a phenomenon because Jehovah was calling them to the great day of the feast of Jehovah when they would eat the dead at Armageddon. Oh, really? I thought it was because urban sprawl was invading their natural habitat. -

After Death Communications in the JW community
by jack2312 inmy name is jack and i'm looking for after death communications from the jehovah witness community.
an after death communication (or adc) is when a loved one sends a kind of message to this side of life after their death.
it can be a dream or smell (like perfume or roses that would be attached to them in memory) or a feeling of their presence.

Why did you choose Jehovahs Witnesses?
by vinman ini'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.
if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?
if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?

I sure as fuck did not choose that shit - I was born in due to my nut job mother deciding it was the "truth"
Even as a child I was bothered by the attitude we were supposed to have toward worldly people and as I got older the doubts increased and got stronger and encompassed more teachings. Thank God I finally broke free! -

In the congregation I used to belong to, there was a sister who died after several years of fighting lymphoma. She lived longer than the doctors predicted she would. She had retired and pioneered. She and I went out in service together a lot and I thoroughly enjoyed her. She was a wonderful person. Toward the last of her illness the congregation drew together and provided meals and care for her. After she died, I had a dream, one of the ones that seem to be real, and she was in the dream telling me she was okay. When I woke I felt I had received a message from her on the other side. I was very much in doubt about WT teachings by then and I had no problem with believing she had sent me a message. Of course, I did not express this to anyone in the congregation. Then later on, one of the pioneers in the congregation who was married to an elder told me that a lot of people had had trouble with this sister's death. She did not elaborate on that, but I took it to mean that the sister (Billie Jean) had communicated with others also. I have to say that Billie Jean is the kind of person who would have done that, tried to let others know she was okay, and there is no doubt in my mind that that was what she was doing.
For all you naysayers out there, believe what you want, that's okay. But remember I am entitled to my own beliefs as well.

Jehovah’s Witnesses face child sexual-abuse investigation in Australia - Washington Post article
by defender of truth inof the religious and nonreligious groups being investigated, the jehovahs witnesses are exceptional, experts say.. in a converted office in downtown sydney, the organizations doctrines and practices are being parsed by lawyers, victims and journalists, providing rare insight into one of the christian worlds most conservative churches.. .
the church, which was founded in pennsylvania during the 1870s to promote a 1st-century interpretation of the bible, has emerged as the least able or willing to deal with sexual abuse within its ranks, said anne cossins, an associate law professor at the university of new south wales and an expert in sex crimes who is a consultant for the inquiry.. .
i find their approach to the issue and victims extraordinarily bizarre almost medieval, she said in an interview.. .

Well, adding the picture messed up what I typed, but that's okay.
Anyway, we are tickled pink. He was born on my sister's birthday (7-9) and she was tickled to hear that.

How do you feel about exJW's who resist our efforts to effect change?
by nicolaou ini've met a few.
i'm not talking about the jw who, whether df'd or not, falls off the radar and just gets on with living a normal life - good luck to them and may there be many more!.
i mean the former jehovah's witness who is now enjoying all the benefits of a cult free life thanks to the efforts of many bloggers, posters and activists, but is critical of the efforts of someone close them to free more jws.

I do not make an effort to bring people out of the cult. What conversations I have had with them, my younger sister and my mother before she died, were met with great resistance and a lot of JW-speak. I know that I did cause my mother to really think about things once because she responded that she didn't know how to answer to me once. So I have chosen to let sleeping dogs lie as far as my family members who are still in.
But I do speak up quite honestly at times to others about the cult, ones who have never been members. I feel educating the whole world about JW's being a mind control cult is beneficial. Also I have two nephews who have left the cult who I am able to give emotional support to, one in particular because he suffers PTSD that he attributes to being raised in the cult. I am fortunate in that my husband was never a cult member and my three sons want nothing to do with it. So the only family I could ever lose over it are extended family and we have never really been that close anyway.
Though I am not active in trying to effect change in those who still believe, I would never resist anyone's efforts to effect that change. The more who can be helped to see the truth about the truth and leave the Watchtower cult, the better. But I am too busy living my own life to spend time beating the drum.
