I also sent Mr. Stewart an email of gratitude. I also gave him a brief synopsis of how I was abused by an elder and how I was treated by the JC here in the US. I wanted him to know that it is a global issue in the JW culture and while he can do nothing for me personally, by being the voice of the victims in AU he is a hero. -

How appropriate that they are talking about loving your neighbor given the RC nailing them for not caring that they unleash JW molesters onto the "worldly" neighbors with nary a care! -

I am wondering if the Aussie branch will have an outward change of policy to appease the RC much like other situations we have seen in various countries. Isn't there a country that the dubs are able to have branch sanctioned blood transfusions (I could be imagining this situation)?
I would love for the RC to cause sweeping change in the policies and procedures (basically non-existent) of abuse cases. I love that the RC is better schooled in JW beliefs than the actual JWs.

If you "chose" this religion, as I did, do you remember the moment you "bought" the religion?
by Muddy Waters inif you "chose" this religion, as i did, do you remember the moment you "bought", or believed, the religion?.
for me, it was during one of my studies with a knowledgeable, lovely pioneer sister who looked like her life was so perfect and wonderful.
i was coming out of a terrible situation in my life, very vulnerable, being abandoned by a husband during my pregnancy and with other little children to look after too.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My mom bought the cult card when I was two and it was all I knew the majority of my life. I have wondered what was going on in her head to make her buy in. She was a very bright lady, but she had just lost her husband via suicide (my dad) and grew up in poverty and abuse with no real religious affiliation or education. I think the bright shiny future they painted coupled with the promise that my dad would be resurrected made her blind to the rest of the crap. Preying on the downtrodden has proved quite successful for them -

How Far Apart Were Your Legs?
by Joe Grundy inseveral threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.
fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.
a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.

Rebelfighter--It was decades ago and I believe all the men are dead now. I definitely would take action if it were possible just to make sure that other victims would not have to go through that trauma.
I am a strong person and I kept asking for help. I got into therapy and I lead a lovely life now. You never forget what happened in terms of abuse, but I don't let my experiences be my master. The abuse did not and does not define me as a person. Getting out of the cult has made me very aware that my experience with the elders was not unique or isolated like I believed for so long.
