Trouble in Paradise??
by Gill ini was having a look at the accounts of three local congs as i had heard a bit about the borg beginning to run low on cash as donations are falling.
locally, i was very surprised to see the cash flow problems of these congregations.
i had a look at other areas and saw that there were a minority making a small 'profit', a lot breaking even when it comes to contributions and a fair amount that are losing the plot financially.. congregation 1. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 19,000, yes, their expenditure was that much over their income.. congregation 2. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 11,000.. congregation3.

So is that why congregations regularly give money to the World Wide Work fund, to avoid having their accounts audited?
they are very lets take advantage of whatever loopholes there are for the benefit of jehovah's Org - They must have something going on - would be interesting to find it.
There was one instance where one of the Bethel vans knocked into a poor bethelites car - the car was a write off - the sad thing is bethel hadn't insured the van to cut corners.

LOVE, ALTRUISM & EVOLUTION
by Dansk ini'm an evolutionist.
one cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact.
however, i'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved.

I was thinking of altruism in terms of sharing, cooperating to attain a mutually beneficial goal, and helping others to help themselves to as much independence as they can manage in the short term, and with an eye on the long term good coming out of it for everybody.
Buit Terry your post is a wake up call because it so easy - if one does not stop and think rationally, to become ensnared with half baked ideas through which we sabotage ourselves and allow damaging ideas to grow - the wts- that also damage those around us.
So thank you Terry for taking the time to explain altruism as to its core definition.

Gill
I found out what below threshold means
When income goes above a certain level then the accounts have to audited.

WHAT THRESHOLD IS THAT,BERNADETTE?
When I looked up the figs for my x cong for each year it said 'below threshold.' But noticed that the figs on display on page 1 of this topic doesn't say that. -

It may be a way to keep the society under the threshold. I'm assuming that there is a financial threshold that the British wts must remain under to maintain theirr charity status - just guessing cos some of those outgoings are huge. Dosen't make sense
