I'm writing a story

it's future fiction with some elements of science fiction to it (very few elements).

the setting is post world war iii america, where the u.s. was conquered by china and then freed into a patchwork of anarchist and feudal systems when china's economy collapsed.

i'm writing in first-person from my perspective as an 67-year-old man in 2049. i live with my daughter and grandson.

I've tried writing science fiction before but I always fell out of love with the story. It may not happen with this one but you never know.

That happens to all writers. Don't let it discourage you. Just push your way through it. Or just stop writing that scene and move on to one that you're more excited about. You can always finish the scene later. It may be one you pull once you get to the final edit anyway. The key is to get the rough draft done. Once you have the rough draft, you can polish and edit and massage the story just the way you like it.

not only am i not a smoker, i have never even tried smoking of any kind (besides a weird .

half hearted attempt at smoking blackberry tea from a homemade wooden pipe.

friends of mine who smoke, besides the complicated layers of guilt, talk about a basic .

My first cigarette was behind the football field, just after a game when I was in fifth grade (ten years old?), so I doubt I enjoyed it. I really don't remember though. I probably coughed a lot. I do remember it was a menthol....

In my opinion, I think it's too early to critique you. Get the rough draft finished and then you can see what works and doesn't work.

Well since I dont leave the house for weeks at a time - I have a choice between my windowcleaner or the grocery delivery guy (and he changes every fortnight)!

when i was 9 i wanted to be daisy duke from the dukes of hazzard, but had to put aside the dream when i realised my legs weren't going to ever get any longer.. when i was 12 i wanted to be ghandi, but realised wars wouldnt stop because i missed breakfast.. when i was 16 i decided that by leaving the borg and living fast and hard enough being alice cooper was achievable.. now i'm 32 i think i'd quite like to have the sensuous, striking confidence and certainty of helen mirren when i grow up.. who did you want to be and why?.

I sure wasn't talking about you when I said that and I didn't meant it as an insult to anyone. Some people, although they are both awesome individuals separately, are not meant to get together. I think ALL people have value and are worth knowing, but not all MATCH up well.

I agree on the availability issue too. Just because someone is available doens't mean they're a good match.

Yes, but Abandoned aren't they going to be artsy/nerdy too????
