I knew a sister that will forward the part of the dead ancestors talking with Mulan in the Disney movie "MULAN". She has a son. One day she went to visit me with him and my daughter was listening to the BackStreet Boys and she said she didn't want him listening to "romantic music" because her son was going to Bethel (at the time he was about 12 years old) and she didn't want him exposed to that music.

Balanced!!!
by barbar inthe witnesses often talked about being balanced, but usually that meant do less of what you wanted and more "theocratic" things.
in fact if you spent 100% of your waking time in the ministry you would probably be viewed as a balanced person.. come to think of it witnesses are very unbalanced or extreme in their views.. any examples of how they are unbalanced?.

what is supposedly resurrected at resurrection?

i asked it several times in groups of friends, and i would get two reactions: confusion/not understanding, and silence/looking at the ground.
if you die, and your body disinegrates, and the soul doesnt live on; in fact, nothing lives on, then what is resurrected?

We have just found out that Jesus was around when the Jews were celebrating Hannukah and we all know Hannukah's celebration is in December. Nothing wrong with keeping with that tradition. Other ancient cultures had their own celebrations probably influenced either by Jews traditions or coincidentally falling around the same time. Because of that many of these celebrations were intermingled with pagan traditions and that's why the Society has condemned Christmas and birthdays as pagan celebrations; because of these little "pagan" rituals that have been added to them with time. In their beginnings the Society celebrated Christmas, as we all know, but in their search for its roots they found out all the different rituals related to our modern celebration of Jesus' birth.
They will never change their point of view regarding this celebrations, the debate will bring out that followers of Christ are not to be "part of the world" and if we celebrate and do what the world does we are not any different from them.
That's what they teach and that's it. No changes. Too late for changes. A bent old tree cannot be straigthen.

According to the Apostle John, Jesus was present in the temple area during the "Feast of Dedication" - this day commemorates the victory of Maccabees and re-dedication of the temple and the miracle of the oil that burned for 8 days.
This is Hannukah. Could you post which scripture says he was there during this celebration?

Festival of lights was on December 25th? Jewish calendar is different from the calendar we follow. Are you sure about that?
I just looked online and it is true. It is Hannukah. And that is when they celebrate their victory over the Macabbees.
Hanukkah, beginning on 25 Kislev (usually in December), commemorates the triumph of the Jews, under the Maccabees, over the Greek rulers (164 BCE) - both the physical victory of the small Jewish nation against mighty Greece and the spiritual victory of the Jewish faith against the Hellenism of the Greeks. Its sanctity derives from this spiritual aspect of the victory, and the miracle of the flask of oil, when a portion of sacramental olive oil meant to keep the Temple candelabrum lit for one day lasted for eight days, the time it took for the Temple to be rededicated.
Hanukkah is observed in Israel, as in the Diaspora, for eight days. The central feature of this holiday is the lighting of candles each evening - one on the first night, two on the second, and so on - in commemoration of the miracle at the Temple. The Hanukkah message in Israel focuses strongly on aspects of restored sovereignty; customs widely practiced in the Diaspora, such as giftgiving and the dreidl (spinning top - sevivon in Hebrew), are also in evidence. The dreidl’s sides are marked with Hebrew initials representing the message “A great miracle occurred here”; in the Diaspora, the initials stand for “A great miracle occurred there.” Schools are closed during this week; workplaces are not.

Basically. I remember seeing a picture in the Awake or Watchtower depicting the resurrection and of course you have the child coming to greet her/his mother or vice versa, the daughter coming to greet her old age mother, or a son greeting his father, but I noticed far into the picture I saw what looked like a young couple. They were looking at each other and his hand was on her face. That one really striked me and I asked is this a couple that were married? I believe I asked somebody and I was told "you never know, we just have to wait and see". I wish I had that magazine. I would scan it and show it. But I've gotten rid of a lot of magazines so I don't believe I have it anymore.
