I think a better term used to describe the mormons or JW's even is a 'Sect' because this word is used to describe a breakaway from a mainstream religion which is what the JW faith is. A cult on the other hand is more used to describe a group of people that isolates itself from normal society and often has one person as the leader.

Yes they do believe their are religious cults but its not a term they often use. They prefer to talk about false religion in general putting the whole thing into one pigeon hole.

How much has the Watchtower changed since 1982 or 1983?
by Irish Rose inthe reason i'm asking is because i have a friend who was disfellowshipped on one of those two years, i forget which.
he disagreed with them, and that's the reason for it.
anyways i got to thinking how much has the watchtower changed since that time period.

i think the most significant change since then was the 'generation' teaching in 1995. but you should be aware of that if you left only in 2001. there are probably other things aswell but the org tries to be quiet about previous teachings like you say they are now only an embarrasment to them

Well when i was a dub i was taught that every 'christian' faith outside of the JW org was a part of 'Christendom' which is a part of Babylon the great. But the JW's have to be careful when accusing another religion of being a cult because they are well aware that their own religion is also under the same accusation by many others.

If You Didn't Have The Internet & Places Like This, Would U Still Be a JW?
by minimus inclearly, the internet and sites like this one helped get me out.
once i started continuously reading how the organization and watchtower writings were bogus, i couldn't help but get out!

Good point mate but i don't think the internet is to blame for people leaving the JW faith. I think most people leave for reasons from their own personal experiences from being a member of the Org. websites like this only provide a useful source of information & references to add weight to your reasons for leaving in the first place.

have you heard about that Catholic priest?
by DeusMauzzim inyou: you know, the one in england who pleaded gulty to 25 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency... the youngest victim was 18 months old.... dub: how terrible!.
you: the tragic thing is, the judge didn't send him to jail, but only gave him a community rehabilitation order.
and the church won't even take disciplinary action against him... he's still in a position to abuse more victims.. dub: end times... corrupt judges blabla .. false religion... whore of babylon yadda yadda.

Our Neighbours are learning!
by fullofdoubtnow inwe live in a block of 6 flats, with communal security doors at the front and back.
apart from between 7am and 10am every day, when the trades entrance button will open the front security door, no one can get in here unless they have a fob to open the security doors with, or unless one of the residents lets them in.. the jws were just at the front security door, obviously getting their hour in after the morning meeting.
they don't ring our bell, they know better, so they were ringing the other bells.

always mentioning how men should not have long hair or beards.
I dunno where they got this rule from, especially when you consider all the apostles & Jesus himself had a beard.
