Along the same lines, why are there so many that respond to posts but never post their own topic? What's up with that?
Some of us are more passive posters than others. By the time I read and reply to all the posts I have read, I'm too tired or spent too much time to start my own. I don't usually come to the computer with an idea in mind with which to start a thread. Maybe there are others out there just like me, I don't know.
there was a recent thread on spelling, sentence structure, etc., that was legitimate, but probably made other's feel stupid.. my question is, what is your personal pet peeve?.
i've got a problem with poor construction inside my home...i hate the trim work, some cut too short so it looks like mouse holes over the floor.
i had my kitchen redone and the layout was so unusual that i can't open a fridge door unless i pull it forward or push it back to open a drawer.
At one point, I stepped outside to check the weather, and then 15 minutes later I stepped outside to go check my mail. Well, that's when I noticed the little "We missed you" slip on the door that wasn't there 15 minutes ago. The delivery person didn't even knock on my door for some odd reason. The slip said that they would attempt re-delivery twice more and the dates were marked on the slip. I waited on both dates... but nothing ever came. I e-mailed UPS and the publication site about the incident, and UPS said that I could pick up the package at the local branch. Pick up??
Musicman, not trying to one-up you here, but a very similar thing happened to me! I had ordered a computer and had to be there to sign for it. I knew the day it was to arrive because I checked the tracking number online. I was waiting most of the day in the living room near the front door, but as soon as I went to the bedroom for a few minutes, what do you know? I heard a noise exactly like that of a UPS truck. I live on a dead end street, so we don't get a lot of traffic. By the time I got to the door (no door bell had sounded, by the way), I saw the back of a brown truck nearing the end of the street and a "we missed you" slip on the door. Grrrrr...I thought to myself "wtf," but waited till the next delivery. No one showed. The exception to your story being just like mine was that after the second delivery "attempt" came and went, I called up the area shipping center to complain, emailed UPS customer service, AND emailed the computer company.
The rep at the computer company called me on the phone and said that sometimes happens because they get behind in their deliveries and just reschedule by sticking the slip on the door and leaving. I kid you not. They had been having other problems with their shipping service as well. The regional manager from UPS called back and then the local shipping center manager called to follow up. I told them what the computer rep told me, and I demanded that the driver come back on a specific day at a specific time to deliver my computer. They repeatedly told me that they couldn't guarantee a specific time, but guess what? The driver came the day I requested and during the hour I asked for.
So, you're not alone in this, MM. Lots of people get hosed by UPS. Oh yeah, I remember now that I also told them I would never use UPS again, and I haven't.

Yeah...mostly out of habit, though. I'm learning to break that habit, though...slowly.

The only thing I remember said about the mark of the beast is that it is a symbolic mark similar to the mark the blokes in the priesthood would get symbolizing their attachment or allegiance to their god or ideology or whatever. If I had a copy of the WTLib CD-Rom on my computer right now, I could look it up in the Insight book, but I had to wipe my hard drive and restore to factory setting recently and forgot to back that up. Ooops. (Could someone PM me with how I can get an ISO image or download of the CD, please? Thanks in advance!) Marking the right hand or forehead symbolized the allegiance to the beast which in turn symbolized the world's political/religious system or some such thing. I don't think they took it as a literal tattoo or rubber stamp of some UPC barcode or actuall "666" on anyone's forehead.

Yeah, except for when he hasn't.
Pre-flood, pre-Mosaic covenant (although the temple arrangement is a far cry from the 12-member governing body--i.e., 1 high priest vs. 12 high priest/kings) post-1st century thru "supposedly" late 1800's, and even now from late 1800's onward the structure of the JW-org has changed several times.

That is a good point. I stand corrected and reminded that as a matter of fact, I am a bit hypocritical. Now that I think of it, I am reminded that I personally have chosen to shun a couple people from my old congo.
The bad thing about shunning, then, is when an organization directs its members to do so...and it also depends on the reason behind it as well. So if anyone on this forum would start endorsing or recommending that we all shun a particular person, that would probably be bad, wouldn't any of you agree?
I think that sounds better and is more what I was trying to say.
