bear with me.
over the years jw have always strived after/prophesied (even though they deny this) a carrot ''date''.
as dates come and go, we hear about ''new light'', but according to the wt :-a new view of truth never can contradict a former truth.
Hi all
Likelihood of life expectancy today in Europe, Japan and USA is around 80 - 90 yrs, and grows slowly.
In about 30 years, it will be around 120 yrs, because then there are new gen-therapy-based anti-aging-treatments on the market.
But this is no solution of the main problem, because only rich countries are in the position to pay enough money for these technologies. Life expectancy in Africa e.g. will decrease more and more, instead of increase.

what was your motivation for being a witness?.
1) love for god?.
2)appreciation for jesus ransom sacrifice?.
My motivations are:
1) Love for God
2) Appreciation for Jesus ransom sacrifice
3) I am anxiously watching: Is JHWH fighting for HIS holy name ALONE together with HIS angels? Or uses JHWH the power of people too - to change the world situation as well as the WTBS-weakness?
any fear? No.

i noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.
(i counted at least 30 out of 100).
after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.
Only if somebody is ready to fight against this corrupt and DESTRUCTIVE world system by all means, he can exist without depressions. If somebody tries to make compromises, as all religions (even the JW-Org) do, then he doesn't can. Therefore, one must NOT fight with physical arms. There are many other possibilities. Look at Paul in Acts.
But only going from house to house, becoming sneered all the time, and getting mobbed by the OWN "brothers" - that is too few.

I have learned how to remain as a JW in "good stand" without having depressions.
Usually it`s nearly impossible.
Only under the prerequisite, that you DO NOT take all seriously what happens in the congregations, and only if you draw a SHARP CUT between THAT organization the bible has described as HIS organization, and THIS organisation called "Jehovahs Organization" in its presently realized performance - you can stand without getting depressions. Take it easy, and stay as a JW. Nevertheless.

i was born in 1964, a convenient 50 years after 1914. even in my early teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured that i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!
what_truth
.. 1914-generation was only a "figurative generation":
I foretold it!
Dont laugh. Its true, it was around 1991... 3 years before "new light" in 1994 I had a conversation with a "hard-core-JW". We discussed the 1914-topic, and my friend seemed to be very sad. (It was 77 years from 1914 on). I told him that in my opinion the WTBS will tell us in few years, that this 1914-generation is actually only a virtual, better said "figurative" generation - lasting 100 or 150 or 200 years, as long as needed. My friend became angry and frustrated, and for 2 years, he never said a word to me... until 1994...

I am 15 years older than you. And I`m in good standing as JW; though I didnt neither believe in the 1914-generation-story nor in the 1975-story. Same things didnt believe my whole family, and nonetheless(!) they didnt get df`d or da`d.. Furthermore, I do not believe in the story that there is neither a "king of the north" nor a "king of the south" at this moment... It`s not necessary to say, that I never got any "privilege" as servant or elder or else,-) And it is a pretty long time since those days, when I became baptized.

They say: only 90 are dead. Nobody seems to be missing. Life in Burma is going on as usual;-((
The truth is:
There are thousands of small islands northern of Thailands most devasteted coast (Khao Lak), home of thousands ethnic so-called Salones, who live on rickety fishing boats with makeshift wooden roofs. Some experts describes this population as the "poorest of the poor in the whole world"...
According to the Democratic Voice of Burma - a non-profit-organization - e-mails from Burma are censored by the Burmese government. They have not been able to reach anyone by phone in Burma since the earthquake. So they do not expect to get much information...;-(

Incredible nonsense (sorry). 1 hour is too short time? Always better a mass-panic instead of thousands of dead people.

Our Thai correspondent says the talk about town in
Minutes after the earthquake hit northern at 7:58am on Sunday, officials of the meteorological department, who were at a seminar in Cha-am, convened an emergency meeting chaired by Supharek Tansrit-tanawaong, director general.
They had just learned that the office had reported an earthquake measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale, which was much lower than the level officially recorded later.
?We didn?t think there would be subsequent seismic waves, because a similar quake of 7.6 on the Richter scale, which hit Sumatra on November 2, 2002, did not affect ,? said a member of the department who asked not to be named.
Moreover, the quake this time hit west of and officials thought the island might offer a natural shelter, preventing any waves from breaking towards Phuket and its vicinity, he said.
With slightly less than one hour before the waves came ashore, Supharek said, the department officials did not expect a tsunami. There are just four people on the department?s 900-person staff who were earthquake experts, he said. Also a tsunami had not hit in more than 300 years.
But sources said they did discuss the likelihood that a tsunami could hit ?s coastal towns. This was also played down.
?The very important factor in making the decision was that it?s high [tourist] season and hotel rooms were nearly 100-per-cent full. If we issued a warning, which would have led to an evacuation, [and if nothing happened], what would happen then? Business would be instantly affected. It would be beyond the Meterological Department?s ability to handle. We could go under if [the tsunami] didn?t come,? said a source who attended the meeting.
?We hesitated for a while whether we should issue a warning or not. It was discussed but we didn?t have a chance to do it.?
Supharerk denied that tourism factored into the discussion at the 11th hour. ?I think we have done our best,? he said.
