  Was it better to be an elder's wife, or a CO's wife?

  a friend of mine was asking about the cult we all hold so dear, and i was explaining some of it to her.

  i told her about elder's wives, and how they have both the prestige of that position, plus the social standing.

  logically, it would be even better for a co's wife.

  I totally get what you're saying, wildfell! If you were a bitch before you were an elder's wife, you were a bitchy elder's wife, but man it was miserable always having to "set the example." And wasn't it just good fun trying to keep your kids in line while your husband was on the platform (like he was all meeting, every meeting) or in the back having little hushed elder conferences or doing whatever the hell else they were always off doing...

  I hated being an elder's wife. It was like having a husband maybe 10% of the time.

  everyone was always being told, "do more" and you'll feel better!

  if you're depressed, simply do more!

  if your life trying to be a good jw was getting to you, you were admonished to stop thinking about your problems and just do more!

  I absolutely bought into that load of tripe! I was a regular pioneer, married to an MS and later an elder and even moved to where the need was great! NOTHING helped, nothing changed, because the bottom line was it was crap. No matter how nicely you decorate a pile of crap or how busy you keep yourself running around the pile of crap or trying to convince other people to believe in the pile of crap, it's still JUST CRAP!

  I was puzzled...

  on the weekend, my jw wife and i were invited to her sister's home for dinner, to celebrate my wife's daughter's reinstatement.

  shortly before the meal, my sil informed me that her family always says a prayer before the meal.

  here's the thing...she asked me if i would be offended!

  I was an elder's daughter and it sucked. I was an elder's wife and it sucked. It seemed to me that unless you were, as oompa says, a stepford wife, being a CO's wife would also suck. I mean, the R&F sisters were either total brown nosers or scared to death of you. Hearing the same ludicrous talks over and over again and pretending to love it, being ambushed by all the elder's wives looking to score some prestige points, and having to listen to all the crazies and smile and smile. Like I said, major suckage...

  JW visits the ranch in Guthrie

  we've been here about 6 months... yesterday (sat) a carload of jw pulls up over the cattle guards and up the drive way.. wife and i are working in the yard.

  the guy gets out with a pair of magaizines.

  i noted he had no bag nor a bible... he's running mag work like a little kid.. so, he strides over to me... i cut him off.

  JW membership turnover - a real-life study

  much has been commented here on how jw's rely on an ever-changing membership for keeping their 'the sky is falling, the world is ending' doctrine fresh.. recently it was posted that fully 2/3 of born-in jw's leave at some point, and i thought you might like to see how this works in practice.. so lets take sam and i and our extended families - we were both born and brought up jw's.

  start with me.

  mum and dad were converted in the 1950's.

  It's an interesting that my cousin just commented this week that I was the last one of our generation to leave. Now my parents are in and hers, and that is it. None of our kids are in so when our folks are gone, that's it.

  What a load of horseshite! I was married to an ELDER for gawd's sake and couldn't get him to freaking work more than fifteen hours a week! The other brother's loved it because he was always available to be "blessed" with extra assignments (do all the talks and crap jobs they didn't want) and he was such a stupid git it totally flattered his ego! My marriage ENDED because of being married to a "brother!"

  What the Hades is going on at the local Kingdom Hall?

  the kh that i attended has always held it's meetings on sunday morning, and still does.

  even on the days when the co visits there are normally only a handful of cars left in the parking lot after 3 pm, as the co typically quits service and heads home by 3 or 4, and besides, if you are not in his group it is usually 'take a few doors, count an hour, and get home in time to watch the game' attitude.

  so today i drive by after work - it is 4 pm when i pass the kingdom hall, and the damned parking lot is just packed - maybe 45 or 50 cars in the lot.

  Amazing abuse of privacy...

  my sister and her husband live in another city/state from me, so i don't get to see them that often.

  he's a ministerial servant, they have two young children.

  i heard a story that happened to them recently.... he was taken aside by an elder, who wanted to inspect his bag to see how many toys they were bringing to the meeting for their daughter to play with.. apparently, someone complained!.

  Don't you know the only acceptable toys for a one year old to play with at the meeting is the Bible Stories book or the Great Teacher book? What's the matter with you? Obviously he did not have his household under control. I'm surprised he wasn't removed as an MS!

  I'm so thankful my son and I are out! Last Saturday night instead of hissing at him to sit still or ELSE I was watching him having a blast at his friend's birthday party - what a huge improvement!
