Long Hair Gal, I think the murderess of the Ohio jw woman was so crazy and desperate for a baby that she would've targeted any pregnant woman. The jw lady had enough sense to call her husband to tell him about the meeting she was about to have with the so-called prospective car buyer. Also I used to work at the county agency that used the very parking lot where the two met. It's always very busy in that area, so the jw woman probably thought she had nothing to fear.
Anyway, back to the current story...how awful that she was killed! Her poor husband and family!

A problem with my daughter
by DATA-DOG inshould i try to dissuade my daughter from being baptized?
she doesn't seem to be in hurry.
all her " friends " are already baptized, some since early childhood which is ridiculous in my opinion.

Instead of approaching her with "please don't", why not approach her with "please do". Tell her that you feel that you missed out on a lot of things because you were baptized a her age and that you don't want the same to happen to her. Ask her what she's interested in doing...extra-curricular activities at school, advanced placement classes, clubs, organizations, etc. She should also be thinking about college applications and all that entails such as volunteer work, essays, scholarships, etc.
There are so many healthy, helpful, and valuable activities, other than field service and preparation for baptism, that she could be doing. Direct and encourage her in those things, and she won't need baptism to establish credibility or gain self-esteem.

There was a massive search for a missing pregnant woman in the town next to me 12 years ago. Of course the story was the only thing being talked about. I remember having chills go down my spine when I learned that she was a jw. The reason being is that I wondered if she was really missing or if she took off. As it turned out, she was lured into being murdered by a crazy woman who wanted her baby. The story made national news.

Whether Whitney was abducted or just took off, I hope she's found safe and sound. No matter what the situation, the poor kid is in trouble.

Another benefit to being an ex-jw
by jeremiah18:5-10 inthis year my wife, kids and i are celebrating christmas and birthdays for the first time.
having been a born-in, i was raised to believe that these events were not only pagan in origin, but also self-promoting and greedy.
what i have learned as the year as progressed and as christmas gets closer is quite the opposite.. as it turns out, my wife and i never learned how to give gifts and to shop for other people, neither have my kids.

Problem is my 10y.o. son is mostly into computer games and I really want to try and get him more into sports and outdoor activities. Any suggestions on a gift that could help accomplish this?
How about a Wii? He'll get exercise and exposure to some sports that may motivate him to play in real life.
