HA! @ Gladiator. I find it very educational - for someone entering the field of mental health, it's like reading case studies.

Is it just me or do people who think they have some special inside relationship with God come off like self-absorbed lunatics?
by gubberningbody ini mean, i know i'm self-absorbed, however i don't think i have or ever will have some relationship with god that everyone else doesn't likewise have.. .

Pedophiles in your congregation??
by ziddina ini'm listening to the "six screens of the watchtower" broadcast from october 25, 2008 [yeah, i know, i'm waaay behind...], discussing pedophilia... that broadcast caused me to look up the current status of 'pedophilia notification' in the u.s.a..... rebel8 posted a link sometime back that gave locations of pedophiles in one's (u.s.a.) neighborhood... that portion of the link is, unfortunately, not working right now.... i decided to check out my [old] site, http://www.nsopw.gov/core/offendersearchcriteria.aspx to see if it still functioned the same way.... again, unfortunately, that site is also no longer giving out maps of one's area.... but, as pointed out in rebel8's posted link, pedophiles tend to move around.
this was also mentioned in the six screens broadcast by a lady named "lilly".... the new versions of both sites simply allow one to input the name of someone suspected to be a pedophile... not as effective, imo, but perhaps the cost of updating the maps due to pedophiles' high mobility became prohibitive.. so, here's my suggestion... using the 'name' search function, check out every name in .
your congregation, starting with the elders!!!.

Just a few points.
1. Policies HAVE changed. It IS being handled differently now. Um...woohoo? So for the last 20 years (and it always takes time for the policies to be adjusted multiple times etc etc etc for it to be fully changed) the "official" published doctrine (as ably quoted by Jordan12) IS the "official" way. Of course, it took media exposure and lawsuits for that to happen. And what was the policy for ONE HUNDRED YEARS prior? Yep. Cover it up, blame the victim, don't tell the rank and file, and above all don't call the police. DF the victims for slander if necessary.
2. Over and over again the policies referred to are U.S. policies. Only 1/6 of JWs are in the U.S. (maybe less now?). So tell me, what happens in other countries? I would be interested to know what happens in - oh say - Africa. Anyone willing to bet the policies of US witnesses on this are different simply because the law is different?
And yet a loving God who had only one true approved organized religion would surely have protected his flock from these egregrious crimes - or at the very least - made sure it was handled far better and more progressively than the world would. Let's see, this is a God who people claim was way ahead of the medical doctors on blood transfusions, who "protected" the Israelites from all sorts of disease by dietary restrictions...and yet - allowed the policies regarding the sexual rape of children to go unchecked for a hundred years? What? The fact that things have (relatively) recently changed means we can excuse history? Seriously?

For born ins- what tipped you off it was wrong
by teela(2) inat a young age i remember watching tv and commenting why is the red cross always helping people and we don't.
the second big one is if the witnesses only started up in 1890 - 1900 did jehovah not have anyone else doing the preaching work?.
as a child i don't think we think about theological problems so what tipped you off?

Born in. True believer in the doctrine.
607 --> 1914. Found out that wasn't true and my world came tumbling down. In the same night, found out about JWs being an NGO/UN connection.
That was it. Of course, then it took a couple of years to finally sever all ties and go through therapy to get my head screwed back on straight.

I have no idea. The website listed is the "official" one but that doesn't mean anything. The links all go to the download page but don't work. There is also a a twitter account for their media feed. Funny, huh?

Swansea paedophile in 17-year barrage of child abuse
by behemot inswansea paedophile in 17-year barrage of child abusesunday, march 21, 2010, 12:00a pensioner branded a "filthy paedophile" after being convicted of a barrage of sustained child abuse, which started over 43 years ago, has been jailed for 19 years.. gordon brian redmond was convicted at lewes crown court of 18 indecent assaults against children including six charges of rape and one charge of actual bodily harm.. the 72-year-old had already pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault against children.. the sexual offences took place while redmond, now of excelsior house, princess way, swansea, was living in brighton from 1967 to 1984. seventeen of the charges were sample counts examples of ongoing behaviour and offences.. the jury was unable to reach a verdict on a seventh charge of rape, and judge michael lawson qc ordered the charge to lie on file.. sentencing redmond, judge lawson said no sentence could truly reflect his actions.. "there is no mathematical calculation i can do that can match the harm that you have done with a certain number of years in custody," he said.. "nor can i undo the damage that has been done or bring peace and comfort to those who have suffered as a result of your selfish behaviour.".
redmond's sentence had to be determined according to the guidelines applicable at the time of the offences guidelines that judge lawson said reflected "an outdated view of serious offences".. redmond became a strict jehovah's witness in the 1970s and moved to a farm in pontyberem in 1984.. the offence of actual bodily harm took place in november 2006.. judge lawson paid tribute to the prosecution witnesses for their courage throughout the trial, particularly redmond's first victim.. "she has displayed a generosity of spirit throughout this trial that you do not deserve and which you never showed to your victims," he said.. prior to sentencing, defence barrister bernard richmond qc said his client was already enduring terrible punishment for his crimes.. "this rather proud, arrogant, cocky, difficult, bolshy, very full of himself, scary man, who everyone was supposed to look up to and admire, now stands in the dock as someone of very little money, no future, and with a reputation as a filthy paedophile," he said.. "he has been shunned by the jehovah's witnesses.
his wife, christine, has been forced to choose between her faith and her husband, and has chosen her faith.".

Really? No one knew? For that long? And that many innocent children were molested? Why, where WAS that holy spirit that operates to keep the congregation clean? Hmmm....

Yep. It absolutely is the same Steve Hassan. Of course, as the field has continued to grow and expand in knowledge, those tactics have also changed and he no longer is a proponent of these methods. You know...kind of like how science has changed so now we no longer think bloodletting is good medicine?
