Former or current elders correct me if I'm wrong, but what you describe is at least enough to constitute "loose conduct". I THINK the new direction is that can be enough to sever the marital bond. If that is the case, and she meets with the elders, they will be advised that she can no longer be alone with you until you decide if you choose to forgive her. Once you two have sex, the marital bond is re-established and there can be no "scriptural" divorce. Once they lay it all out for her, in black and white, you might have an even bigger mess on your hands. Be prepared.

Read S. Hassan's Book: Do JW's really fit the cult mold?
by simon17 infirst time i got a chance to read his book, "combatting cult mind control" and was interested to see if jw's fell into the cult mold.
my opinion after carefully reading and having left the witnesses after almost 30 years is... no, they don't.
however, i would add that they wish they were but are simply too big and unwieldy to really pull it off.

I met Steve Hassan this past summer and had a very interesting conversation re JWs/cult definitions. When he wrote CMC, he had very little knowledge of JWs. In fact, because of their size and integration with society, he would not have considered them as "fitting the mold." After his book came out, he was inundated with letters and calls from current and exJWs. He did alot of research, working with several exJWs (including Dogpatch from this board), and revised his opinion. One of the challenges is that the common perception of a cult is a small group, living in a commune, and isolated from society. Cults, however, are all about control - and the JWs do certainly fit. I have not read it yet, but I understand Releasing the Bonds (follow up book to CMC) does discuss JWs.

Hmm....so does the fact that the number of partakers keeps increasing mean they are admitting that the numbers of mentally ill JWs are increasing? (just asking - innocent look)
And Re Point#1 - BWAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You owe me a new keyboard. REALLY?

Did therapy help you?
by gutted ini am considering going to a therapist.
even though i believe i have gotten better and made some progress (it has been roughly a year since i stopped attending meetings, doing anything jw-wise), i still have a lot of negative self-talk which is hard to overcome, especially during off days like today.. i find the hardest things for me is low self-esteem and social interactions/anxiety.
i'm sure some of you can sympathsize, and though i am not fully blaming my issues soley to my jw upbring (born-in) i know it compounded those issues.. .

Funny thing, therapy. I went because I was deeply depressed and almost non-functional...first session was the typical background stuff (and I was still very much in, then). Second session my therapist said, "I know you said being a Witness wasn't the issue, but I can just ask a few questions?" ...aaaaand as they say, the rest was history.

Would you/could you look at the pics of dead Osama Bin Laden?
by Broken Promises inif, and i'm saying, if, the pics of osama were released, would you want to look at them?.
do you think you could stomach the sight of a man with a bullet through the eye?.
or would it be worth it just to prove once and for all that the terrorist king is dead?.

No. I would not. And I am very appreciative of the fact that Obama made the adult decision, knowing he would be criticized and attacked. I am glad he stepped back and saw Big Picture, not the next 72 hour news cycle, nor people demanding "closure". Frankly, if the relatives of those who died in the Twin Towers or at the Pentagon or in Pennsylvania want to see a PRIVATE viewing b/c they need "closure", that would be one thing. But everyone else who wants to see it out of purient curiosity or because they want to buy into some governmental conspiracy - get a freaking life and think about how many more American lives would be put into danger. Two scenarios: faked picture/conspiracy? bin Laden will just make a videotape and prove it wrong. I seriously doubt the American government would run that risk. Get real. Second: real photo, released? Even MORE anger and hatred against the U.S., but now with a distinct focus.
Like everything else, reason and logic will see the point, and conspiracists will not (sigh).
Really. People are barely surviving in Alabama - and there's barely anything in the news about that anymore b/c everyone is arguing about whether or not these photographs should be released. When was the last time you saw anything about the hundreds of thousands of people in Japan who are still struggling?
How are you going to control a picture like that? Do I REALLY want a child looking up and seeing that on TV? or on the internet? Nope. And it absolutely would serve to incite more violence, and would become yet another rallying point for terrorism. I can just see the banners now with his mangled face on them...all over the Middle East.
*steps of soapbox*

What if... The Governing Body promoted online preaching
by pirata inimagine this scenario:.
step 1) the governing body produces a brochure entitled: "addressing misconceptions about jehovah's witnesses".
it brings all the apostate arguments out of the woodwork and addresses them (whether or not the answers make sense doesn't really matter).

Hee hee! It always makes me laugh when I see comments like this: "Besides, people are smart, and those who have questions about what they hear about us on the internet or elsewhere can simply ask us about what they've heard."
Because (1) most JWs have no real idea what their doctrine teaches (I was 3rd generation; all males in my family elders a/or COs, I had NO idea Jesus wasn't really MY mediator. And we were probably one of the few families who actually did the family study, etc etc).
And (2) it's a ridiculous argument. The best analogy I've read on here is the one about the used car - if I want to know the truth about its background, do I ask the guy who's trying to sell me the car? Or check online for carfax which isn't trying to convince me to buy the car at all? Hmmm....which would be more accurate?
And lastly, it would be impossible for them to create a brochure that answers the opposition - because they would have to address the UN/membership issue, the 587/607 debacle, taking blood/organs etc etc. I can guarantee you that most witnesses would get the brochure, be totally freaked out b/c they DON'T know, and leave.
Yes, the truth always does come out in the end.

JWs Not Allowed to Post on Websites?
by StandFirm inthis seems to be a favorite topic to bring up to any witnesses who post on any website where there are any opposers, either here or topix or anywhere.. so, here is the one and only place i will be discussing it.
who can prove that witnesses are specifically told not to post on websites about them?.
-
Georgiegirl
Good job, StandFirm! That spirit of independence and rebellion you show is a wonderful example for other JWs! It reassures them that it's a good thing to come to sites like this and to learn to think for themselves and to examine the facts!!!

Slandered At the Circuit Assembly & My Letter To My Mother
by headisspinning inon saturday, my ex husband went on the platform at the one day circuit assembly and slandered me in front of 800+ people.. my jw family is even up in arms because he basically lied and ruined any last bits of my reputation that i had left, the worst part is this was elder sanctioned.. i am really exhausted from all the upheaval so i will get right to the point.
the following is what i sent to my mother:.
hi mom.

Agree completely re legal action. Remember, too that the CO/DO are held completely responsible for the content being delivered at the assemblies. Include them in your cease & desist letter. Plus - there's your direct link to the WTBS.
I'm so sorry. How humiliating, hurtful, and wrong. ((hugs)) Way to keep victimizing the victim. I have no patience whatsoever for abuse.
