just got back a little while ago from the class of 1969 reunion committee.
having a blast helping plan it... it will be the first weekend in oct. we're going to a home football game...the out to eat... then the main event on saturday at the local country club...and a brunch on sunday morning.... 40 years... amazing... it's nice to be involved now.
in high school i was a jw..so couldn't have much to do with classmates.
I went to my 25th class reunion this year.... first time I went to a reunion (anyone remember the DC where they spoke against attending class reunions?)... might be the last..but because I was bored. Although I had a pretty girl (my fiancee Toni, who graduated 4 years earlier from the same HS) on my arm, the reunion itself was pretty bland.... it was held at a sports bar.... the same one where the 20th mixer was held.... since the dinner part of the 20th was an utter disaster (by all accounts) but the mixer was a success, they just went with an expanded mixer...
For $12 person, it was unlimited soda and draft beer, appetizers (which were surprisingly good), and our own large outdoor tent with tables and chairs ..plus the outside deck and inside restraunt and bar were available... but there was no music, no band...no entertainment...at least it was affordable to everyone...esp those coming from out of town...
I had offered to get the DVD of our class video yearbook (back then VHS) which would have been a cool trip down memory lane, but the committee did not make available any equipment to show it, so I didn't pursue it.
Overall, boring. I seen a few people that I liked alright in HS, but mostly, we stayed to ourselves, just as I did back then... we didn't stay long... we instead went for a drive up the river and back....came home, got the 8YO, went to bed relatively early....lol
Probably won't go to the 30th.

i gotta vent...i am sitting here at my computer, using my nice, much faster 18 mb internet (vs my old 1mb)....and what am i doing (other than posting about the qualities of toilet paper)?....i am looking up crap about "gulper eels".. you see, my 8-year-old soon to be stepson says to my fiancee and i last thursday.... 8yrold: "i have a project due.
" hmmmm.... snakesandfiancee, looking at each other suspiciously: "when is it due?
" 8yo: "an animal, i have to find facts about an animal and pictures and print them on a poster board" as he pulls out of his backpack a large sheet of paper that has been folded more times than an accordion.
big tex... i would rather it look like it does and know that he did the majority of it...with some logistical help from me just so we can get it done...than have it look like some of those in his class that look like Graphic Art majors did it...
and it looks good anyway... his mom and I are proud of him

did you all start getting the "full court press" from "friends" to start doing more things socially as you began your fade?.
i havent been invited to do a whole lot the last few months, but now all of a sudden i am getting phone calls and invites to do things.
fortunately, it hasnt been - "hey lets go out in field service" or anything like that since i would tell them to take a hike (which at this point means make myself busy at work or otherwise) .
oh people are avoiding me like the plague.... I get a few phone calls from time to time..mostly to attempt to "encourage" me.... (err.... probably they were sitting somewhere...doctor's office, in line, etc...bored...scrolling through their phone...see my number.....call)...
but no invites to do anything... no surprise....hell, I was an elder, regular pioneer, MTS grad and I didnt get many invites....so why should I get any now that I am a flaming apostate... soon to have a jack-o-lantern on my front porch ...lol
Since I dont have a wife that is a JW (thank goodness toni doesn't go for that stuff...6pm Mass for her on sunday sometimes).... and my JW mom is out of state...I don't have that kind of pressure...
If you like the people...go....if they bring up JW stuff.... either tell them you dont want to talk about it... or act interested...nod appropriately..... grunt occasionally...try not to roll your eyes... its all good.

The project is done...and it looks like an 8 year old did it because....wait for it....the 8 year old did it.
Because I am posting a picture that includes the 8YO with the poster, I am going to throw this into a link in the Private section...

ynot...
those are the exact pictures and drawings..that he will be using...not a whole hell of a lot on those damn eels... I printed out 4 copies of the pic just in case he messes it up... so far I am only out about $3.50 on this project....
I know it isn't the most opportune time for yall as a couple but what a great memory for him to have of yall working together!
yeah, the timing could have been better...at least I have the time to help right now...I hope I get better word that our work picks back up on Thursday,....or I have to go look for another job for awhile...

over on my literature burning thread, someone jokingly suggested that when the big a comes i am going to regret not saving that paper for toilet paper..... this made me think of recent discussions my fiancee and i have had on this subject.. when we first started dating about 4 months ago, i would come to their apartment for coffee or dinner...after awhile i started spending the night.
one thing i noticed was the toilet paper.
lousy one-ply.

It could be worse you could be going to the store for Maxi pads instead of toilet paper....lol
B R I N G I T O N......I have merchandised and stocked entire aisles of feminine hygiene products...I used to work retail for awhile... worse than that is stocking makeup.... at least fem. products are light and easy to merchandise. I had a bunch of merchandise resets in Walmarts a few years ago... I had to completely take apart and reset and restock an entire 20 foot run of makeup....by the time I was done, I had that crap on my hands, under my nails, I couldn't stand it...and you should have seen the look on customer's faces as this guy (me) is sitting cross-legged in the middle of the makeup aisle at 1 am (24 hour store) surrounded by dozens of boxes of stock trying to read the microscopic item numbers and color names matching them up to labels....$ h i t. If that doesn't embarass me, and knocking on people's doors peddling WT crap doesn't...well....
dinah:
Snakes, you spoiled, two-ply usin', homework doin', litterature burnin' brat!
I ain't doin' the homework... though I am concerned...the one supposed to be doin the project is not home yet..and it is now 5pm...... he and his mom are still at my future MIL's house..where the 8YO is doing regular math homework. Why assign regular homework on the night before a project is due? "Gifted" program means..."back up the dumptruck, here comes the books."
anyway...funny how this rather mundane, nonJW-related thread got so much attention...lol...

Parents probably spent big bucks to get that A for Junior.
nope...Ijust spent all of a whopping $2.16 on two pieces of poster board and a piece of foam board at Dollar Tree...I already have the index cards and everything else the 8YO needs... I will spend another 50 cents tops printing out the 2 pictures of the eel at the photo lab self-service machine.... saves on ink cartridges ..photos drink ink on color printers and because all I have is a B&W laser printer.
The rest is on "Junior"...lol

What pisses me off are the parents who do all the work and then step back and say their kid did it.
not happening in this household.... the completed project will look like an 8 year old, albeit one in the gifted program, did it...because he will do it..no matter how tired his mom and I are tonight... besides, the teachers know the difference between 8 and 42 YO work....
I think kids should do more of these things....but at school...at least in the early (before grade 6) year. By the time the kids get to middle/high school, then they should have absolutely no excuse for having any parental assistance, except for obtaining appropriate supplies at the store.
jeffT:
If you do the work for him, he'll never learn to do it himself, which presumably is the point of this exercise.
not going to do the work for him.... i will gather all of the needed supplies....provide support...but support does not include copying all of the facts..he has to type those himself (they said print or type..his handwriting dictates typing, which he is good at)...and he has to glue all of the cards, pictures, drawings, etc to the poster himself, decorate it himself, write up his presentation cards himself.
If I hadnt did the "quick and dirty" searches myself, I would never have gotten on my own computer to do what I needed/wanted to do... (their computer is not hooked up yet..I have to go get the router today and get their computer here tomorrow...too late for the assignment...

crap for wiping your bum but great for tracing pictures.
except when you have to draw around the bits left over on the paper....oh, you meant clean paper... sorry...

2Ply is for people who want to Spoil thier Bum!
Having been a Self-Sacrificing™ JW all of these years, until recently that is, one of the few "luxuries" I enjoyed was 2-ply..so yeah...
WTW:
there is no sense in getting into a big fight because of toilet paper
It has been a fun, good-natured ribbing on both our parts... but she would have to pry my 2-ply from my cold-dead fingers. ...lol
