As An Atheist: Finding Real Spirituality After JWs
by Seeker4 ini've written on here several times about how the witnesses have a really shallow spirituality.
remember how there were spiritual activities, "sacred service" as it was often called - bible study, prayer, meetings and field service - and everything else was considered not a spiritual activity, not sacred service?
they toyed with expanding the 'sacred service' definition for a short time.

Great thread seeker4,
While I was still an elder I slipped that in as often as I could, "too often we confuse the words spiritual and theocratic."
The totally brain-washed would stare bewildered. Those that still did some of their own thinking would say "that's so true."
I'm liking secular humanism as an approach to life. If you have no read "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris give it a glance.
Regards.

Will the WTBTS come to an end?
by pierogi incults come and go so do you think the wtbts will eventually come to an end?
i think about this sometimes and i wonder if i will live to see it.
the reason why i want it to end is because i don't like the administration.

No claims have been made by the Society concerning 2014. However, just as the number 1000 (a millenium) has an impact on humans for no logical reason, so too does 100 (a century). The subconscious mind will cause many to say to themselves when that year passes uneventful,"wait a minute, wasn't something supposed to happen by now?"

Unfortunately, I think jwfacts has it right. They will continue to "update" themselves forever. Having said that, the psychological impact of 2014 passing will shake many, especially 25-50 y.o.'s. Many around me have felt comfortable expressing their true feelings on matters and the common consensus is "Oh well, even it doesn't come in my lifetime, it's gonna happen oneday. This is still a good way of life, and besides where else are you gonna go?"
I'm in the above-mentioned age group and I never heard anyone talking that way 10 years ago. Many seem to be preparing themselves emotionally for the disappointment of a lifetime, whilst going through the motions. It's wonderful that there exist support groups like this(j-wd) to help those waking up from years of suspension of disbelief. I also think that this change to the publishing the Watchtower will raise many an eyebrow. I hope it's legit, but I'm still having trouble believing it.

Hello jwfacts,
I've enjoyed reading your posts for some time now. I wonder, were there as many miserable, cold, and arrogant "brothers" in your bethel as there were in Brooklyn?

Don't lose your cool. It's ok if you're unsure of what to believe about God, life, the universe, etc. That means you're an honest person. As for the situation with the gf just remember that all we have and need, regardless of belief, is the power to show love, kindness, and compassion to those around us. Stay true to who you really are, not who you were as defined by the organization. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Sorry for the confusion. "nvrgnbk" is short for I'm "never going back."

Hello,
I was a pioneer, an elder, and a bethelite. I can't say too much more now because my family is still in. I have been lurking here for nearly two years and just now summoned the courage to post. Thanks to one and all for being there. Much love.
