Simon I think of you as being an Uber tech guy so I'm surprised you would even consider something by Acer, unless they've totally upgraded and improved, I've always thought of Acer as being the KMart of computers.

Mac Book Pro with Retina or Dell XPS 15? (both with new Haswell processors)
by Simon ini've been in need of a new laptop for a long time.
no, i mean it - a really long time.
the old dell that we have has a floppy lid and is woefully underpowered although it does build up my upper body strength every time i pick it up.. the last 6 months has been a bad time to buy something new though with the haswell processors on the horizon promising better battery life and also screen technology seems to have been leaping ahead recently to a new hi-dpi standard.. so apple finally released their mac book pro and at the same time dell has released an xps 15 ultrabook which looks like a pretty good alternative and probably better 'value'.. pro's and con's?

They're everywhere these days!!
by scotinsw injust spotted witnesses handing out brochures like they were going out of fashion this afternoon.
this was at oxford circus in london (one of the busiest shopping areas of london).
they were actually getting in the way and had boxes of the rubbish!!.

Well, at least they were moving, here in the NYC subway system, the ones that aren't privileged enough to stand behind the table setups and display cases just stand like statues holding the magazines in front of them for hours, I guess they probably do that your subway stations as well.

If they changed their blood ban would their be a floodgate of lawsuits?
by Londo111 ini know nothing about legal matters, but there are those here who are quite keen at these things.. if they changed the no blood teaching, would this open the watchtower society up to litigation?.

I don't think it would be hard at all to prive the Societ's no blood issue. I'm in my mid 50's and I clearly remember it, what about the folks who were in and turned downed blood and or still alive? I'm sure they remember. Better yet ask some Drs, I'm sure they remember their wacky patients saying no blood, I went to a Dr. about two years ago and he was telling me the procedures of some surgery and although he didn't violate the HIPPA law, he randomly worked in something about one of his JW patients totally turning down blood referring to the procedures of the operation or something
One of the wackiest stories I remember is my friends sister who was in labor, she and her husband going to hospital to hospital to explain her situation about blood, one said that she would need it, they both left and drove to another, same story, finally a Dr. who complied with their opinion, but in labor and going from hospital to hspital and still follwing seven old men in Bklyn's rules who have you believing it's straight from Jah, that really sad.

I agree with you Wasblind on the "no one held a gun to their head" issue, think of all the children who have died because of the beliefs of their crazy JDub parents, children and babies have no say if they wanted to die or not.
Technically they have changed their attitude on blood since they now accept "blood fragments", which if not synthetic blood is taken from actually blood, that's why it's called a fragment, it was taken from the original. I hope they received a lot of lawsuits after they started the fragment issue

The Party with Peter Sellers is one of my faves too, but reading the other listings here, I'll just say there's a major generation gap between me and the other folks here.

New video of interviews with Famous active and former Jehovah's Witnesses
by jwfacts ini have put together a mash up of active and former jehovah's witnesses, including a number of interesting interviews.. http://youtu.be/ozwvh57erro.
as a side note, i hope it does not get removed for copyright violation, as software automatically scans for pieces of music and i have already received some violation messages.
the video does comply with fair usage laws, as the music is relevant to the commentary..

Ja Rule was right. his mother went to my Cong. before she got married and had him, so I know the folks that are responsible for his mom getting DFd, one of them is still a Dub according to her FB page, the others I think they're still in, but not 100 per cent sure

JW CHILDREN GET PRESENTS ALL THROUGH THE YEAR. REALLY?????
by NAVYTOWN inis it really true that jw children get gifts 'all through the year', not just for christmas and birthdays like non- jw kids?
as stingy as most jws are, i find that very hard to believe.
plus the childhood magic of christmas and birthdays is totally absent in jw households.

That line about JDubs giving their kids presents throughout the year is just their comeback line when folks ask them about not celebrating Christmas. I'm just glad my dad wasn't in while I was growing up, I have fond memories of going to friends and relatives houses for dinner for the holidays and I did get gifts. I guess I'm one of the lucky born-ins.

JWs in Florida and California. Is there really a difference?
by BU2B ini have heard over the years from many different people about how jws in those states are unlike elsewhere.
the parties they have, the way they dress and the permissive attitude.
i just heard from a sister that is from florida, that if you are not "spiritually strong" you will "fall out of the truth" down there.

I grew up in da troof in NYC and could relate a few stories also, so, like the scripture my mother used to quote "the flesh is weak" no matter what part of the universe you live in.
