Well, I haven't been to a meeting since the 1980's so, I guess after then the brothers started wearing jeans and sneakers. I can't really imagine that being OK by the elders anyway to wear that to a meeting even if it's not at the KH, maybe it's a regional thing where the brothers could dress like that, sound like west coast, California thinking to me.

Remember when you could wear casual clothes to the congregation book study?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini would get home from work, eat dinner, shower and put on jeans,a shirt and gym shoes to the book study.
then, one day a letter was read where men would need to wear a suit and tie and the woman would have to wear dresses.
it was stated in a letter that the change was due to, '' giving a better witness to anyone who would watch us walking into our local congregation or a neighbor's house.''.

On another note, we know what kind of presentation the Dubs will be presenting this weekend as they go door to door or work the trolleys.

Do you really think you'll hear back from addressing the questions you ask? if you do hear from them it will be via a brother from the congregation you attended asking if you want to study.

S*** JW Parents Say
by Dissonant15 inmy mom especially had some go-to phrases that to this day echo in my head and piss me off.
things like, .
"don't get mad at me for enforcing the rules, because jehovah made them, so if you don't like it, you're disrespecting him.

The only education you need is in the Watchtower and Awake magazine!
Sounds like something my mother would've said, can't believe she didn't,then I would've said why do I have to go to school then?
"bad associations spoil useful habits".
Now this one my mother said ALL THE TIME !! However didn't have the effect she wanted !!

If you don't enjoy working with the public choose another career.
by James Mixon ini'am sure you have come across someone with that type of personality, working in sales, clerk, waitress or waiter.
most are nice but once in a while you come across that person that needs to choose a different career.. this morning i met that person, she just screwed up my day.
i'm thinking maybe her day wasn't a good start,a fight with her husband, bills or children but don't screw up my day.

She said the total was 2o.85 and you gave her 21.00 sounds like you heard her say 20.85 the first time, you gave her the correct amount to begin with, -

Imitating Jesus with a goatee vs Elders
by brandnew inok.....ya gotta hear this ......pops, who is 80 + , slightly nacisistic, slight case of alzheimers, and a stubborn good ol man.. decided to grow a pretty nice lookin goatee this week..... elders swooped on him so quick, it was crazy....... pops looked like he was diggin the whole show of testosterone being flung in his face , but he stood his ground and smiled.... when the dust settled, and pops had his say..... he replied......"im imitating jesus, and jehovah "....!!!!.
omg...the smile on my face, and the one on my dads was priceless......along with the frowns on theirs... thats all....just wanted to share that..

I think when you said "slight case of Alzheimer's" that says it all, or just a bit of it.
But please know that I think that anyone that can stand up to the pompous asshole elders in their Congregation, they're alright with me !!

What's the craziest thing someone INFORMED on you about?
by Londo111 inthe culture of jws as encouraged by the watchtower is one of informing on one another, reporting to either the elders or ones designated head.
whats the wackiest thing that someone reported on you?
im not talking about a black-and-white watchtower rule that would land you in a judicial committee, but some judgmental nonsense that someone thought they should turn you in about?.

My thoughts re Pope Francis
by ctrwtf inso today i'm watching cbs news coverage of the popes visit to america.
first, let me say i'm not religious at all at this point in my life.
still a few things stood out to me about the news coverage of his visit.. first thing i wondered was if a gb member happened to garnish this much press (unlikely) what would his message be?

I just don't get how ANY religion can treat a human being like he's the second of coming of Christ. Like just touching him and being in his presence is such an honor. I'm sure I feel that way because being raised in da troof, and I know many of the Dubs think it's an honor to meet one of the GB, yet, they'll be the first to quote the scripture that something about " not honoring any man" or whatever the exact wording is.

Recent Ads on this site - Simon this needs some fixing
by done4good ini am noticing that when some of the ads run, the page keeps scrolling upward towards them.
this is annoying and should be addressed, as it makes some threads almost impossible to read.
have same effect on two different oss, (same browser type, firefox).

This below has been popping up right on top of the first page of this site within the last few weeks, at first I thought that it was something Simon put up because it has a "Got It" button to click after you read the message

Why did you choose Jehovahs Witnesses?
by vinman ini'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.
if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?
if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?
-
ShirleyW
I was a born in but I didn't make it "my own". Never bought into it. If you're one of the kids that the others in the KH don't want to be bothered with, and your mother says "why can't you be more like . . . " one of the kids that doesn't want to be bothered with you because they always answer during the meeting and all that fake jazz, how the Hell are you supposed to be drawn to that fake BS?
