It is also ironic and a *fact* that many who argue smugly for the perpetuation of warfare are those who have never even picked up a gun in their lives, let alone aimed one at another human and pulled the trigger.

I have yet to pull the trigger- put I have picked up many.... .223, .30, .50, 40mm, 120mm etc..etc..

Teflon is the plastic with the lowest coefficient of friction. It is also used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. Teflon is very unreactive, and so is often used in containers and pipework for reactive chemicals. Its melting point is 327 °C.

Teflon is sometimes said to be a spin-off from the US space program with more down-to-earth applications, but actually its first significant use was in the Manhattan Project, as a material to contain highly-reactive uranium hexafluoride. It was first sold commercially in 1946.

Well im sure you can put down your teflon products. Heaven forbid you use a benefit of war. Would you perhaps have a cell phone? How about GPS? Weather Forecasting? Cable Television? Plastics? When you travel, I presume you use prop planes- being of course the Germans developed Jet fighters in WWII. Heaven forbid you are using the internet- which of course was developed for the Military by the U.S. no less, hahahahahahaha. A computer! Dont you know that was developed in WAR to break enemy codes! You best not be using one of those! Nuclear Medicine??

In England we have Gog and Magog- who defeated the Giant Humbug and saved Londona....(who of course formed the city of London).

One would think French, but being that vast majority of those deaths are in Africa, no one cares.

Malaria alone kills over 1,000,000 people each year. 90% of the cases are in Africa. Just another example how the Industrialized world continous to let Africa rot because it doesnt care. Seen any "We must rid the world of Malaria!" Topics on this site? Out of site, out of mind. Im sure if CNN or FOX was in Africa there would be huge outrage- "Something must be done!" Oh well. Im just rambling. From time to time we must remember that we are not the only people on this earth.

If you are so concerned about people dying, then maybe you should stand on the corner and protest mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes have killed more people than all the wars combined.

I find it interesting that poems written by soldiers express the desire to protect freedom, and poems that are written against war express the destruction of freedoms.

Simon, I hope you dont have any no-stick teflon frying pans.

How wany people here refuse to use technology that was developed for war?

My point being that so many here are against war, so are you against using products that were developed by war? It would seem hypocritical to speak out against war and yet benefit from its occurance.

president are both supposed to be actively religious i wonder how big apart there religious outlook plays in the decisions they make.

being non-religious myself i would be keen to see, no influence at all, but the only countries that have put that into practise are the communist ones, and we know what happened there.

just wondering what exactly americans (u.s.a) are taught about their country in school .do you really salute a flag, do you swear allegiance to the country.

are you taught that you fought for freedom, and that america is the land of the free, etc etc?

do you actually believe what you are taught?

I cant see how anyone can deny that saluting the flag of your country as a child cannot effect many peoples beliefs system

One more time: Children do not SALUTE the flag. Only MILITARY people SALUTE the flag. Get it straight.

Im a Veteran? Well kind of, but I re-enlisted A Vietnam vet no, but if he screwed them im sure he'll screw me.

The only reason the North continued to fight after getting their asses stomped during the Tet-offensive is because they knew that America would GIVE UP. How did they know we would GIVE UP? Because the @#%@# protests and anti-war BS which lead to Politicians putting restrictions on the War because they didnt want to look bad to the American Public. Stupid Stupid Stupid. John Kerry was a VERY influencial force in the Anti-War movement which lead to our eventual FAILURE in Vietnam and the WASTE of American lives. All the North had to do was continue to push push push no matter what the cost and they knew we would eventually pull out. The whole thing was a stupid waste.

In a recent interview published in The Wall Street Journal, former colonel Bui Tin who served on the general staff of the North Vietnamese Army and received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975 confirmed the American Tet 1968 military victory: "Our loses were staggering and a complete surprise. Giap later told me that Tet had been a military defeat, though we had gained the planned political advantages when Johnson agreed to negotiate and did not run for reelection.
The second and third waves in May and September were, in retrospect, mistakes. Our forces in the South were nearly wiped out by all the fighting in 1968. It took us until 1971 to reestablish our presence but we had to use North Vietnamese troops as local guerrillas. If the American forces had not begun to withdraw under Nixon in 1969, they could have punished us severely.
We suffered badly in 1969 and 1970 as it was." And on strategy: "If Johnson had granted Westmoreland's requests to enter Laos and block the Ho Chi Minh trail, Hanoi could not have won the war.... it was the only way to bring sufficient military power to bear on the fighting in the South. Building and maintaining the trail was a huge effort involving tens of thousands of
soldiers, drivers, repair teams, medical stations, communication units .... our operations were never compromised by attacks on the trail. At times, accurate B-52 strikes would cause real damage, but we put so much in at the top of the trail that enough men and weapons to prolong the war always came out the bottom .... if all the bombing had been concentrated at one time, it would
have hurt our efforts. But the bombing was expanded in slow stages under Johnson and it didn't worry us. We had plenty of time to prepare alternative routes and facilities. We always had stockpiles of rice ready to feed the people for months if a harvest was damaged. The Soviets bought rice from Thailand for us. And the left: "Support for the war from our rear was completely secure while the American rear was vulnerable. Every day our leadership would listen to world news over the radio at 9AM to follow the growth of the antiwar movement.
Visits to Hanoi by Jane Fonda and former Attorney General Ramsey
Clark and ministers gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses. We were elated when Jane Fonda, wearing a red Vietnamese dress, said at a press conference that she was ashamed of American actions in the war and would struggle along with us .... those people represented the conscience of America .... part of it's war- making capability, and we turning that power in our favor."

Communist Vietnamese honor John Kerry, the war protestor, as a hero in their victory over the United States in the Vietnam War.

In the Vietnamese Communist War Remnants Museum (formerly known as the "War Crimes Museum") in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), a photograph of John Kerry hangs in a room dedicated to the anti-war activists who helped the Vietnamese Communists win the Vietnam War. The photograph shows Senator Kerry being greeted by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Do Muoi.

Jeffrey M. Epstein of Vietnam Vets for the Truth acquired the photograph over the Memorial Day weekend as America was commemorating its military heroes. Epstein's organization, Vietnam Vets for the Truth, issued a general request last week for photographs documenting Kerry's activities on behalf of the enemy. Bob Shirley, a Vietnam Swift Boat veteran (www.pcf45.com), sent the photograph to Epstein in response to that call. Shirley recently joined over 200 other Swift Boat veterans in signing an open letter questioning Kerry's fitness to serve as Commander-in-Chief.
