Good question, gypsy, well then, how about this. Would it be better if the decision wasn't in the hand of the governments, but instead left up to a majority vote?(ie the whole counties population) I say that because I feel we are to quick to go to war sometimes.
No. American history is a perfect example. We could have (SHOULD have) entered both WWI and WWII at an earlier time but we didnt because the American population was against the wars and didnt want to get involved. Lets not get into voting........ Also, lets not forgot that the Government knows many things that we the population do not. How can we make a vote if we are not informed? The Government obviously cannot be giving general broadcasts on its Foriegn Intelligence. A nice concept though. So now we get involved in everything because no one else will French- Kudos to France for sending some troops to Sudan Simon- our commanders still go to battle with us :) The President hasnt been in direct conflict since the Revolution and even then he was just a general :) They are politicians Simon! Not Military leaders. Besides, bush crashes his bike all the time- I wouldnt want him driving my tank The highest direct combat officer you will ever see if probably a 3 Star- but even then thats in World Wars when you have Gutsy leaders such as Rommel or Patton who lead from the front (and were repremanded for doing so...).

Realist,
My point was if war bothers you so much, if the death of soldiers and civilians for the purpose of who knows what grinds at your nerves, then why would you use products that were developed for or are directly related to the increase lethality of the Military?
People here whine about the military industrial complex and yet many companies make more money off their civilian products (using technology developed from their military reasearch). GE Anyone?
" I thought they just made light bulbs" LOL
I hope noone here uses OnStar when their car breaks down LOL.
Maybe when you fly on your next plane you'll ask the pilot to turn off the radar LOL
Sheila- sorry for hijacking your thread..........2 much bacardi and it pissed me off that others crapped all over your beautifull poem.

Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
by minimus inrecently onacruse made a comment regarding why many jws remain jws.
a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".

(and it was German engineers who provided much of the know-how for Amertica and Russia during the post-war space-race)
Indeed
Amazing how a V1 can transform into a international space station in a generation or two....
Point being- if you hate war that much dont use its technological innovations......
to be fair- easier said than done.........

Please, for the love of god, go get an education and learn some history before you make claims. Hell, just do a search on Google first !
I did not say planes. I said JET FIGHTERS.
And YES, the Germans were the first.
The first planes of course were flown by Americans *duh*

My dearest Simon,
Teflon was first used by the Military.
If you want to get technical on its invention then I suggest the Computer, the Internet, GPS, Cell Phones, Radar, Rockets, Satetlites, Jets, ceramics, encryption, email, and anything space based [well there is more, but why showboat?].
And thats just in the past century.
I guess I could also point out that roads where in fact develped by the Romans so they could move their armies around faster. But then again, those war mongering Romans started london....
besides, who needs roads?
But thank you for your concern

So what's your point? That they should not not use this technology?
If you are so against war why would you?
