Yes that's right. Social media was a big no no and some elders made a pretty big deal of it if you were found using it. There was a Watchtower article about 3-4 years ago that said it was OK in moderation. It well upset loads who were against the evil satanic media sites. -

In depth research reveals....
by Deltawave insomething i have noticed over the years is how much harder it is to research the history of the watchtower society from its own literature.
people have thrown away old publications in place of the watchtower library.
i beleive soon the watchtower library disk will be discontinued in place of the online library.

Something I have noticed over the years is how much harder it is to research the history of the Watchtower society from its own literature. People have thrown away old publications in place of the Watchtower library. I beleive soon the Watchtower library disk will be discontinued in place of the online library. The GB don't seem to want people to be able to keep track of what's been said when. Especially in this modern technology driven age where what they say can be researched, referenced and quoted back to them.
I would like to start a study of what what published as "truth" and compare it to what is taught now. Has anyone got any good photocopies or Watchtower references that I can look up too speed up my project??
Thanks

Yeh I sat through the Watchtower study too. Only last week did they say about not applying or much meaning and then this week bam! The meaning of Jesus parables. I was talking to an elder after who was laughing at the previous explanation and saying how silly it was ...... Yet he has bought into the new light.
Give it a few years and they will re interpret it again.

New light on more parables
by Deltawave inwell after a full watchtower study last week about how we should not read to much into bible account as types and antitypes, we had a whole study article on what the 10 wise virgins now means.
interesting though is the fact that only in 2007/8 they taught that the discreet virgins were the annointed ones who waited for christ's return in 1914 and the foolish ones were the ones who fell away in 1914 because the end didn't come.
now though, we have new light!

Well after a full Watchtower study last week about how we should not read to much into bible account as types and antitypes, we had a whole study article on what the 10 wise Virgins now means. Interesting though is the fact that only in 2007/8 they taught that the discreet Virgins were the annointed ones who waited for Christ's return in 1914 and the foolish ones were the ones who fell away in 1914 because the end didn't come.
Now though, we have new light! The wise Virgins are the anointed who are faithful during the great tribulation and the foolish are the ones who fall away and loose their heavenly reward. However, It was explained in a footnote that there isn't more anointed ones to fill in the numbers of the ones who fall away because Christ knows they will be faithful so it's ok.
Isnt that a "once saved always saved" idea that we slam as been "born again" mumbo jumbo??
And how can Christ know whether they will be faithful or not without taking away free will??
Does this mean that the annointed who fell away in 1914 when the end didn't come were not truly annointed??
All total nonsense.

"I cant wait to meet Abraham!"
by stuckinarut2 in"i can't wait to meet abraham" was the eager comment made by a young 7 year old witness girl.. when asked why, she said "because he was jehovahs friend, and he was even willing to kill his own son!".
this comment was said with joy and excitement!
she can't see the obvious issues with this?.

According to some studies, in the Bible Satan is actually only responsible for 2 maybe 3 deaths directly. Jehovah is responsible for millions :
- Flood
- Passover
- Isrealites who disobeyed in the wilderness
- Armageddon

Paradise is going to suck!
by WasOnceBlind inonce you really start thinking about it, the whole paradise idea is kind of depressing.
i remember growing up as kids my sister was the first to tell my parents (admittedly very courageously) that she wasn't sure she wanted to live in paradise, it sounded boring living forever.
i thought she was dumb for thinking that, i mean playing with lions!!!!

So many JWs choose to be miserable now and neglect themselves beleiving they will do it all in paradise. Really makes me sad. They also expect to be miserable because these are the last days after all??!! -

Living in a world where everything is good and nothing is bad is like trying to make a world where everything is on the left and nothing is on the right. Nature doesn't work like that. -

Are you religious or are you spiritual? Wake up to what?
by Deltawave inthere is a huge difference between been religious and been spiritual.
been religious is about been superior to others in the sight of god.
however, been spiritual is about self awareness, inner peace and unity with the natural world.

Thanks Xanyhippe,
Frightened off is the wrong word but made cautious by the perceived bitterness of some members yes.
Im glad you dig what I'm saying. I feel there is alot of good about been a JW,
- Good morality
- Clean speech
- Simple life promoted
- Clean living
Ect..... But I don't agree with their religious theology. I feel that we do need to strive for something beyond the mundane matters of life, have a greater purpose but I'm not sure the JWs are the answer for that.
I Think most religions have good and bad in them, but that they all miss the point of what they are trying to accomplish.

Young baptism a double standard with marriage?
by thedepressedsoul ini remember tons of young ones getting counseled for being too young to date and for marriage.
the elders said, "marriage is the 2nd biggest dedication of your life (baptism being 1st), at 20 you still don't know who you are or what you want.
you can't possibly make a decision like that, that young!

I have had this debate many times with my witness family. Even though I was baptised at 11 I use that as my argument that I was way too young to have been allowed to make such a life changing decision. It is wrong. Legally you have to 16 or 18 to make certain desicions about alcohol, driving and marriage. Should be the same with baptism! -
