  jehovah's witnesses are taught (and believe) by their hierarchy in brooklyn that the name of their religion is based on the bible itself.

  a little bit of research comprehensively reveals that the statement which was written in isaiah 43:10 about the jewish nation 700 years before christians appeared, has been corruptly and un-scripturally adopted as a "god-given" name.

  After that statement was made in Isaiah 43:10-12 nobody least of all the nation of Israel ever took up the name Jehovah`s Witnesses And centuries later when Jesus walked the earth he never chastised them for not doing so

  My son and DIL are spending a few days with us ,he cooked the turkey /roast and pavlova for desert and my other son from interstate skyped us on the day which was very enjoyable for all concerned as we chewed the fat.

  Grievances ? I have missed out on a lifetime of festivuses .

  l don't visit very often now , but l wanted to drop in to wish all you folks a merry christmas and happy new year .

  as l cannot find a thread already started for this l have started one !

  Selling Sacramento, CA Convention Deal to Skeptical Public

  i live near sacramento, ca and earlier this week the local convention authority held a big deal press conference announcing a "deal" with jehovah's witnesses (see clip below).

  based on comments to local news media on their websites, more than a few people are not too crazy about the idea..... i heard an interview on a local station where the head guy [of the convention authority] was defending (sounded very defensive) the city's deal with the dubs, by saying "well, they'll bring hotel dollars, food dollars, and they'll be visiting all of our local museums, evening life, and entertainment attractions.....so the monetary impact will be huge for us...".

  specifically discouraged from doing any of those "extra" things..... hope those attractions aren't hiring more employees to handle the witness "crowds"........ also, during the interview, he said that the convention authority would be able to select the dates for the various conventions.

  as someone who has tried to fade on various occasions, i always end up attending meetings!

  why is this the case you may ask?.

  if i was single, i would have kissed this high control american religion goodbye many years ago.

  I can go back about 35-40 years ago when an elder and his wife we associated with said to my wife who then did tend to miss a few meetings " why dont you just come along for the social aspect of the meetings "

  Questions for the Biblical God

  i consider myself an agnostic, i feel no sense of certainty that there is a single all-powerful creator who made the entire universe, and yet i must acknowledge that the universe is a large place that is filled with much beauty so the possibility of an intelligent mind being behind it is certainly there.

  lately, however, i do have more and more doubts about the god of the bible being a candidate for that all-powerful creator should such a being even exist at all.. these doubts are founded upon a number of questions for which i have never found any satisfying biblical or logical answer.

  instead, i was simply chided with the remark that "god's actions aren't always meant to be understood by humans," which i found to be a very unsatisfying answer.

  The Universe is also a place of massive destruction and chaos .Stars that die ,Galaxys that collide ,super nova`s ,meteorites that collide with planets ( not just earths ) just to name a few examples .

  Why does every living thing on this planet live off the death of another living thing ? Whether its life on the land in the skys or under the sea ,every living thing preys on another living thing .

  And dont get me started on how bloodthirsty Jehovah is ,having his people slaughtering millions of animals and birds to satisfy his blood lust as sacrifices to appease him .

  Is account of Ananias & Sapphira genuine?

  1) ananias “sold a piece of property… and kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.” (acts 5:1, 2) peter interpreted the whole incident as unbecoming of believers as they created the impression that they are giving full amount received from the sale of their property, and told the wife of ananias: “the feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” (acts 5:9).

  death sentence for slightly exaggerating one’s generosity?.

  2) in this incident, peter seems to be over-righteous!

  NO , for the next 2000 years no such judgements have ever been made for the attrocities committed in the name of the Christian religion nor the false prophecys of the JW`s or the crimes committed by JW`s held in good standing.

  Ananias & Sapphira`s account happened after Jesus resurrection so by all accounts any other infringement should be punished , if it was at all true.

  it was from one of their competitors, harold camping.. "religious leaders sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers.

  The GB and WT writers are liars when they speak of predicting anything about 1914. As pointed out in the above posts they have no problem revising their history to fit the facts .However JW`s are too lazy and ignorant to research the publications of that era.exposing such lies.
