  More Bethelite Table Crumbs Please!

  in a controversial post in a separate thread, janh makes an extremely good observation that a certain former gb member will likely carry many, many wts "top secrets" to his grave, for whatever reasons he does not wish to divulge such.. then, on this db, former bethelites constantly exchange posts where their word choice is "cloaked" so that many of us who were not insiders are left guessing at meaning, people, etc.

  obviously, even individual members of this fraternity have unique experiences and insights.

  if such info is not disseminated, it is lost if that person dies naturally or in an accident.. would you folks please post more elaborately so that the rest of us can benefit from your knowledge and experience.. the statement that motivated this post made a silent reference to the author of the happiness book.

  The truth will ALWAYS out, but timing is everything. Would MadApostate have demded a full public disclosure of the Manhattan Project if he had heard a rumor or two about it?

  If he had done so and got his way, we'd all be speaking German and Japanese right now and would not have a single civil liberty.

  Revealing too much, too soon could give away the identities of those working inside the Organization. If those people were ferreted out, the society would be left with only hard-line bastards and NO informtion would leak out.

  Maximus is therefore performing a great service by NOT revealing publicly what he does not reveal.

  an essay for Farkel

  last fall, my second year of college english was based on the movies instead of classic literature.

  the textbook dealt with cinematic elements (lighting, sound, camera position, etc) as the tools filmmakers use to tell their story beyond mere dialog.

  the assignments involved watching clips of film, determining what the filmmaker was saying by his use of those elements, then writing full-bodied essays based on our assessments.. one of the film clips we saw was from dead poet's society.

  Seriously, if you're too lazy to realize you could have easily found the author of the Happiness book without resorting to hurling epiphets at Maximus, then you should at least be smart enough to know why you aren't privy to sensitive information.

  If someone revealed sensitive information to you and made you swear you would reveal it to no one but a few trusted friends, would you turn around and reveal it on a public discussion board because someone chided you and then in frustration screamed, "FUCK YOU, MadApostate?" You're frustrated because Maximus keeps sworn confidences, becuase he he is a man of honor? You want him to reveal himself to you and everyone else. You're such a coward your e-mail was locked the last time I checked. Who are you to demand anything of anyone?

  Most cliques are formed to keep the assholes out, not to let them in.

  You've made an utter fool of yourself. I KNOW Maximus, and I believe I know him pretty well. You don't know dick and I can guarantee you stand a slim chance of ever having a friendship with him with conduct like you've displayed on this thread.

  the article preceding this one, "supreme court interprets" is extremely instructive about the loonieness of the society's leaders, and shows how they make almost direct claims of inspiration.

  Making Jesus Say More than he Said.

  farkel wrote an excellent piece (as always) on matthew 25 and the wts version of what jesus meant as if jesus meant something he didnt say.

  this is a similar subject and takes a piece from the greatest man book which for some reason i found myself flicking through again.

  (i previously posted a short piece on the prodigal son) it is sad in a way, i kept this book thinking it may have some value as a commentary on the life of jesus but on rereading sections of it i feel inclined to toss it away.. so many times the book interjects its interpretation of what jesus meant and in chapter 63 there is a contradiction in the line of reasoning.

  It is obvious to people like us that the WTS has put itself in a huge bind by making up doctrine and policies FIRST and THEN trying make the words of the Bible fit the pre-conceived notions.

  That is why I've never thought reform could work. I've often stated that in order to really become a religion that could actually do any good, it would have to toss out EVERYTHING it teaches and start with a fresh sheet of paper. To do so would not be reform, but a demolishment of doctrinal garbage and a sincere desire to abide by what the scriptures actually say, not what they WANT the scriptures to say.

  Hiya Max,

  I found it fascinating that the society told the elders to NOT proceed with any judicial matters as it could be seen as "obstructing justice." That is a very wise thing to demand, and I appluad the society (at least for Britain) for putting the reins on the elders until the legitimate authorities have concluded their investigation, and perhaps even a trial and verdict.

  Rabid elders who were allowed to jump into the fray could easily and seriously jeopardize an investigation from authorities who actually know what they are doing.

  I also find it interesting that in Britain authorities are notified first, and Legal second.

  In the US, Legal is notified first and the authorities are only notified if the local law REQUIRES them to be notified.

  What was that Proverb about using two sets of weights, Max? Can anyone say "Mexico/Malawi" six times without stuttering? Bulgaria? Or the infamous WTS press release that states if a dub takes a blood transfusion it doesn't result in automatic shunning?

  Of COURSE it doesn't result in "automatic shunning." First comes the Judicial Committe, THEN comes the shunning. They fooled Bulgaria with that lie/half-truth, and I'm sure Russia knows how they really operate now as a result of that.

  I would say, "May you Have Peace," but someone else already has trademark on that one!

  :btw, what do you mean by "a subject that concerns dubs." I'm serious. Not all dubs are the same. Give me some parameters.

  I think the majority of dubs who are still capable of forming their own thought would be interested in seeing any solid work in these area:

  JW doctrine/policy that clearly supplants or supercedes the Bible
  (That alone should give you six or seven hundred subjects to select from!)

  Distored or falsified JW history in WT publications

  JW doctrine that clearly contradicts hard science

  JW social dynamics that clearly are the antithesis of civilized ethics

  Anything along those lines would be great.

  Note, it is not necessary to write on a brand new subject, since I doubt there is any JW subject that hasn't already been covered. Pick a subject that interests you and put your own style and flair and observations on it.

  Alan F and JanH and NormH and I have oftentimes covered exactly the same subjects, but we all treat and present them differently. That way, there are styles of writing that suits many different people, even if the subject matter is the same.

  No hurry, and you don't even have to do it if you don't want. If you like to critique the work others, jump into the pot and see what it's like to be on the other side of the fence, though!

  : The principle Jesus set for helping the poor is to do it quietly with no fanfare. The degree to which each individual helps the "poor" is a private and personal matter. It is no one's business.

  So, what's your point? I never said said that charity should be accompanied with a big Brass Band. Neither did Jesus. So what is your argument?

  Furthermore, what does anything you've said have to do with Matt 25 and my argument? I never talked about fanfare, and neither did Jesus.

  Now, what does that have to do with Matt 25 and the topic of my thread?

  Fine and dandy tj,

  I won't critique it. I'm sure your professor is much more qualified than me to do so. I saw the movie, and liked the movie immensely. Your views about the movie were er, so obvious to those who understood the thesis of it. Your essay was pablum, but that's ok.

  In all fairness to you, you do have a pleasant style of writing.

  Of course this board is about dubs and dub issues, not about movie reviews and/or your ruminations about them.

  I'll be more specific this time: can you write an essay that we ex-dubs can relate to, i.e. one that involves dub issues?

  This takes some work. And thought.

  Can you do that? Digging out an essay you've already written is fine and dandy. Building an essay from a subject that concerns dubs and has not been dealt with before takes some effort. Can you perform?

  If you can, I will be in the forefront to applaud your efforts.
