Well, it looks like the overexaggerated gestures and piss poor acting are still the same.

This drama tried to cover just about everything and on a really slippery slope: apostacy, materialism, higher education, idolatry, dressing all fancy, not being poor, making big old fat idols to be placed in the arena. And how twisted was the girl who watched her buddy get killed by lions. Are they really that desparate for viewers. Its like the plot of a poorly thought out SciFi Channel series that only makes it two episodes.

I agree- quote of the drama- He's an apostate- he's encouraging everyone to help the poor and learn medicine!!

(The world needs more apostates!!)

Of all the quaint little "beginning of the universe stories" in all the cultures on the planet- this Jewish one just happened to be picked up by the Roman Empire and distributed (via sword and burning at the stake) to most of Western Civilization. Now, when polled, most Americans will tell you that it really happened.

Who said that the Roman Empire wasn't powerful???

Who said that civilization has really advanced???

PS- No cross and crown arguments, no pyramid arguments, please, I don't think they prove anything.

Reptilian bloodline- I think not.

A bunch of guys with delusions of grandeur who tried to influence world events to their own profit- sounds reasonable- I see stuff like that every time I go to a bar- usually it never makes it past the bar napkin, though.

Sorry, I watched this time and my curiosity got the best of me. Who is this guy Icke? Whats up with his off hand remark about the "Russell foundation" running drugs into China during the Opium wars? He said those things like...well, as everbody knows....

When I heard about this book, it sounded like another Talmud of rules and regulations. It is, but it is also a remarkable work of indoctrination propaganda.

Birthdays are the favorite days of Satanists!! Who knew??? Turns out, Birthdays are also the favorite days of baseball players, and zookeepers, and kindergartners, and politicians, and journalists, and graduate students, and well- just about everyone except those who have been indoctrinated since they were 2 years old to believe that they are Satanic!!!

"fade" Is this term or other "apostate" vocab being used in talks by JW's?

i am picking up a whole new set of terms, abreviations, etc.

from this forum.

with the number of increasing active jw's veiwing and using this forum i was wondering if this new language is making its way back into talks, meeting parts, preaching work or other areas in the social lives of current jw's?.

Having a child is one of the most rewarding and most natural pleasures that we can have. (Not "making" the child, but raising the child) My kid changed my life forever- he was one of the best things that ever happened to me. There may be a lot of JW propaganda still floating around in your head about the loss of freedom, "problems", etc. I say that all of that is fear-mongering from the childless writers in Brooklyn.

It makes sense to plan appropriately to bring the child into the most supportive, healthy environment you can. (You have to figure out what that means for yourself.) But don't deny yourself this basic right because your circumstances aren't perfect.

How did your young children cope when you left?

i have an 8 year old son who's in primary school.

he has to pass 3 sisters and their kids most mornings and they shun me, so therefore they shun him too as he's with me.

he has known these people since birth so he's pretty confused by this.

This is an important thread, I think.

My son is 9 and we have been doing the fade since his 8th birthday. Its amazing what he says when he realizes that there are no longer any boundaries on belief. He continually says things like- "maybe there isn't a God. There isn't really any proof." Anyone who says "Children naturally believe in God" have never spoken with children in an honest and open manner. (Ok - that was a pretty broad generalization- I expect some flaming for that) Children have a natural logic that simply can't accept much of what is taught in the Bible (especially the OT).

He has made comments like "We really dont do our religion anymore." To which I say-"No, we don't. Sometimes its important to rethink what you've always believed to be true."

To me, its important that he know that there may not be any fixed, unquestionable religious truths and that life is a journey of discovery. I'm trying to balance that with giving him a set of moral boundaries (stealing, hurting others, hurting yourself is wrong) but I find that children do have a bit of a natural compass when it comes to basic moral issues. (They just have no natural moral compass regarding stories of brutality in the OT, senseless doctrines like blood, and other artificially imposed religious "morality")

Violations of privacy re: postal mail by JWs

i have been sending out orders of books to jws, ex-jws and others for over 25 years.

sometimes plain wrap to keep the family's noses out of it.

over the years i have seen the same constant pattern: whenever the questioning jw lives with or near family members who are currently jws, they want to break open the mail to see what others are ordering!!

I know of witnesses who work for Barnes and Noble.com and Amazon.com. One got my number off an order and called me up. That was a few years ago (before I ordered "apostate literature.")

I suppose if they called me on it today, I'd recommend that they read the book before they make any judgements.

Fortunately, when I ordered from Randy- my wife was as curious to see the books as I was.
