The more I read his book (the first one), the more shocked I am at the similarities between JWs and other cults. So far, he doesn't mention JWs- so I guess this book might have predated Randy's conversations with him. Randy recommended these books to me some time ago as good for "getting rid of the guilt" I had no idea what he meant until reading the book

Unlock Cult Phobia's in Witness Relatives-Help them Think Real & Authentic
by flipper inso what is a " phobia " ?
in hassan's book " releasing the bonds " he states it as , " a persistent, irrational fear of an object or situation.
all phobias are triggered by a cue that initiates a closed cycle of fearful images, thoughts, and feelings.

Shouldn't A Religion Having The "Truth" Be Pretty Simple To Follow?
by minimus inwhen you think about it, there's a lot of things about jehovah's witnesses that isn't easy to understand.. try to explain all the details about the blood doctrine to half a normal brain.. the majority of jws cannot explain who exactly the "faithful & discreet slave" is.
most will mix it up with the governing body.. the new world translation has "jehovah" in it over 7000 times.
ask a witness if the manuscripts that were found had the name "jehovah" in it.

If religion is the truth, you should be able to explain it to a 5 year old and him/her not have any logical problems with it. Try that with:
-Why go to 2 hour meetings that are repeditive and impossible to understand.
Why Jehovah hates Santa Claus
Why its is pagan to celebrate birthdays.
Why Jehovah doesn't want us to play little league or be friends with the next door neighbors.
Why it is wrong to go to college.
(I haven't even started on F&D slave, 144,000, time of the end, rasom, etc, etc, etc.)

Are you watching the old black and white one or the newer- made for TV movies (Jason Robards? and I cant remember)
Great quotes.
It was one of my favorite movies as a Witness too. Amazing that when you are "in" you cant see how the movie is about you too.

Well, Well, Well Let's all welcome the Great Tribulation!!!!!!!!!
by unbaptized inwell it seems that $750 billion dollar bail out was a waste of time.
it seems like companies are filing bankruptcy as fast as the market can recoup.
the crime rate is about to go through the roof.

Wow- what passes for Tribulation these days has really slipped:
Overleveraging of securitized debt instruments, loss of confidence by speculative traders in certain banking conglomerates, infusions of capital by several world governments into certain industries via stock buys in which the governement seeks to make a profit....etc, etc, etc.
Whatever happened to the sky turning to blood, people throwing their money in the streets, even a despotic dictator trying to conquer Europe???
We don't even have a good old pestilence killing off 1/3 of the earth's population!!
An earthquake that kills millions??? Nope- not even a tremor- and all of the buildings are earthquake proofed and early warning systems are installed so the death rate won't be near what it would have been in the past!!
Sigh- the good old days....

Flipper,
I am reading Hassan's books for the first time too. It really is amazing the commonalities between Moonies, other cults and JW's. I used to have a problem calling JW's a cult, but it becomes more and more clear that they are. (I am one of those who says- well most religions are a form of mind control- whats the big deal)
The use of phobias was one of the eye openers for me. It seems you cant go to a meeting without hearing about how bad the world is, or how bad life is, or how unhappy everyone is- and how you should be really afraid if you don't have "the truth." Nothing like ruining a beautiful fall day with that drivel.

I'm just trying to understand the risks when someone sees my kid in a uniform at a street fair. Trying to walk the fine line, you know.

You are all confirming what I thought- mostly prejudice and whispering about how "wrong" it is- nothing in writing that specifically outlaws it.

Now the WT Society is Telling Witnesses- Don't Worry too Much About Health
by flipper inin the nov.15th watchtower that a lurking witness friend i have on the board sent me , it really guilts the witnesses into not worrying about their health but pushes them to do more, more, more.
it has a disgusting picture of perfect martyrdom of a sister in a wheelchair witnessing to a lady at her door with the caption, " despite health problems , jehovah's people find joy in the ministry.
a few twisted points i wanted to share to show you how mind controlled the witnesses are in even controlling it's members view of showing concern for their health !
-
lrkr
Regarding the "do not be encouraging people along your way of thinking" line- we all remember that some of the most zealous witnesses also have the most wacky ideas on health care. From carrot diets, to magnet treatments for cancer, to multi level marketing scams to sell you one form of snake oil or another.
I don't think the guys in Brooklyn are worried about someone encouraging jogging and eating salads- because no one would dare offer that type of balanced advice (its worldly!!!)

Granny Grace, you bring normalcy (and sometimes discipline) to the board. I don't know you and you don't know me- but your story has helped my wife and I. Thank you.
