Overheard some JWs on the train today- going to be interesting this year
by lrkr incruising down to the city this afternoon we were behind a group of j-dubs on the train.
part of the conversation centered around the "generation" teaching.
all of them clearly trying to wrap their heads around it.

Cruising down to the city this afternoon we were behind a group of j-dubs on the train. Part of the conversation centered around the "generation" teaching. All of them clearly trying to wrap their heads around it. "But if those brothers are all dead and these ones overlap how long is a generation....."
I dont see the change in the generation teaching going well for them. Its just too obvious what they are doing- trying to stretch out the "urgency" they have been preaching for 100 years now.
And with it being 2014- you can see the duck and cover starting. Annual text is "let your kingdom come" study articles in January are about how great it is that the Kingdom has been reigning for 100 years. Anything to avoid people saying- "Hey wait a second- when is this Armageddon thing happening anyway???"

Comprehensive NWT Comparison Project (calling all technically skilled members)
by Apognophos inis anyone aware if this project is already being done by someone?
if not, perhaps we can brainstorm how to go about this, now that the pdf for the revised nwt is out.
a couple initial impressions:.

So... it looks like they took any magic or mystery that was left in the text out. I understand the "seed of the woman" is now the offspring. To me seed is very different than offspring. (one is animate and current, the other could be potential and latent) Also eliminating all of the "came to be" removes that beautiful reference to "TO BE" in the text.
Just when you thought it couldnt get any worse than replacing "grace" with "undeserved kindness" they further castrated the poetry.
I'm an athiest- so I dont really find religious meaning- but the poetry and symbolism have been centuries in the making.

JW apologist Emeth dismisses teachings of Russell as irrelevant, uninspired and even funny.. Maybe in the future jw's will say the same about todays Governing Body?
by The Quiet One inemeth said: "russell never claimed to be a inspired prophet or without any failures or mistakes.
he was just a human as much as i and you are.
he is just a person who started a process of digging and searching for bible truths.

Part of the campaign to distance themselves from Russells teachings. The F&D slave did not exist until after he was dead- in 1919.
Wonder what they'll do when they realize Rutherford was even more of a crazy??

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

Just finished reading your story. I always thought Bechman was a lazy, arrogant slob. I nevrr realized he was a total power hungry psychopath! I am so sorry for your trials- but it looks like through struggle you eventually found freedom- and that is all any of us can hope for. We may have known each other but it was probably just a "hey bro" relationship like most were at Bethel. Re posting of pics- its always fun to reminisce. I have put that world so far behind me I have difficulty remembering details anymore. Btw- Zen Galileo on this board was also at the farm at the same time as us.

I remember Bechman. What a pompous ass. And I lived in the A building for a while too when I first arrived. It had its own vibe. I remember reading the Studies in the Scriptures on particularly lonely day and thinking WTF!!! Anyone who browses thoses books will be convinced very quickly that CT Russel was bat shit crazy!
