  Church of Christ, Scientist

  we were in boston this weekend and stayed at a hotel in the back bay, close to the hq of the church of christ, scientist.

  these guys have an impressive cathedral and an hq setup that includes a "library for the betterment of mankind" as well as a walk in globe that represents the scope of their religion.

  they have similar origins to jws- 19th century mysticism mixed with literal reading of the bible, heavy central control and "democratic" church structures.. but, for some reason, they really annoyed me.

  We were in Boston this weekend and stayed at a hotel in the Back Bay, close to the HQ of the Church of Christ, Scientist. These guys have an impressive cathedral and an HQ setup that includes a "library for the betterment of mankind" as well as a walk in globe that represents the scope of their religion.

  They have similar origins to JWs- 19th century mysticism mixed with literal reading of the bible, heavy central control and "democratic" church structures.

  But, for some reason, they really annoyed me. This cult doesn't just kill people by making them reject blood transfusions...they reject modern medicine altogether. And their buildings show the impact of an enlightened populous on a mystic 19th century religion.

  There are only 80,000 of them left. Growth is mostly in Africa. The buildings and grounds are mostly populated by student musicians attending the nearby Berkley College of Music. The dilapadation of their HQ has started. Within 20 years some developer will buy it all and turn it into condos.

  I wonder how long it will take for a similar fate to befall JWs?

  JW anti-gay children movie viral in Netherlands national media + official reaction of JW spokesman Branch office

  various dutch (netherlands) media mentioned the anti-gay children movie on jw.org,.

  and gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual organizations are shocked, and some gay people.

  are reporting the movie to the local police.. the official spokesman of the dutch branch office in emmen declared that the movie is.

  This whole issue speaks to how far society has come on acceptance of LGBT relationships. 10 years ago, if a fundamentalist church put up an anti gay video, no one would have cared. Watchtower, being as usual, entirely tone deaf, didn't catch that it is entirely unacceptable and bigoted now.

  Just like if your religious belief is that white people and black people shouldn't marry- that may have been considered a private issue 50 years ago. Now it's just considered racism. No matter what color of religious bow you put on it.

  The JW FUNERAL experience

  my best buddy is gone.

  i attended his funeral this morning.. on thursday evening, i went to the body "viewing" and it was "family only.

  " i am part of the family (through marriage) so, i was there.. i was welcomed with joy and enthusiasm like a long lost (prodigal) sheep.

  morning warship - he was the only restraint and i'm not saying that lightly.

  i know there are a dozen others here who were in bethel back in the early 2000's who know what i'm talking about.

  he actually kept me thinking this was jehovah's org because of his sincerity as if the holy spirit was operating in him.

  I also personally thought of Dan Sydlick as a very interesting warm individual. But then I read Ray Franz book. In it he describes an incident where Sydlick was sitting on the committee that disfellowshipped Dunlap. He was quoted as saying to Dunlap "We're not here to answer your Bible questions" in an arrogant condescending manner. That changed my whole view of him.

  health, dismemberment, death (natural and unnatural) murder and suicide..

  the people at bethel were killing us spiritually.......and sometimes they killed us physically too..

  Regarding OSHA I remember an old memo from someone in Brooklyn that was copied and passed around like it was the original Bible- it was a memo stating that someone had called OSHA and confirmed that their regs did not apply to Bethelites.

  We were volunteers, not employees. OSHA only protects employees!

  Living as Christians at the C.L.A.M this week

  this weeks meeting under the section - living as 'christians', starts off with 'repentance makes a difference', which is a talk given by an elder taken from w06 11/15 27-28 par 7-9. in a nut shell it discusses those who have been disfellowshipped and then show repentance.

  it then goes on to discuss reinstatement and how a certain amount of time must pass by before this can take place.

  it makes the following point in the paragraph.. 'a disfellowshipped person is not automatically accepted back into the congregation after a certain amount of time has passed.

  after our meeting with knorr and the heavies, some of the boys and me got a job changes.

  i was sent to bindery 5th floor, building 3, bindery line 5..

  I was at the farm and much later. But reading your posts I can feel myself in the tunnels, smell the mildew of the old 124 building and remember the loneliness on everyone's face. (The farm wasn't as bad, but when we visited Brooklyn we thanked God we weren't there!)

  don't get me wrong...........there was no one more self righteous, than me at 19. i moved to kansas at 18 to pioneer and even printed up cards that said............ .

  "have sword, will travel"---------contact casarona salina kansas------ aaa which of course meant available after armageddon..

  I knew Fred Hilmo years later. His wife had died in a tragic auto accident (that involved him falling asleep at the wheel while going to give a Bethel Speaker talk).

  He was remarried and busted down to a menial position of installing picture hooks.

  Very kind person. The kind of "former great" that you ran across often at Bethel. Nothing new this organization chewing people up and spitting them out.

  Welcome.

  I agree with others, follow the facts. Let your mind open as you question things and seek answers. It's a mind blowing journey!

  Re the scripture in Revelation- they don't actually believe it- that's how they sleep!

  Help your family to seek out friends, social contacts and traditions away from the KH. It will smooth the transition.

  Also, stay under the radar as long as you can. Once their defenses go up, it causes stress and turmoil.
