  i have a word of the day emailed to me and this one brought back memories.

  Most other versions say "impress" or "teach diligently" there. Note also the male orientation of the NWT ("son" instead of "children").

  Deut 6:6,7

  NWT: 6 And these words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; 7 and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.

  KJV: And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

  NIV: These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

  Gopher, you are so fast. Thanks for posting this! OMG, I never realized that the NWT made its translation MORE sexist! Even the King James Version says "children"! Why am I even surprised?

  Say, this got me thinking about the scripture in Deuteronomy 6 that the Witnesses use to say you should always talk about Jehovah everywhere you go (to inculcate the truth into your children or whatever).

  Do other versions and translations use the word inculcate? Anyone know? I will go look it up...

  Do you sometimes feel really disconected from people?

  i thought i had been going really well in my life until my mothers recent attempt at shunning me.

  now im feeling like i don't want to connect with anyone.

  i'm kind of disconnecting myself from my friends even, withdrawing.

  Absolutely. I feel like I'm between worlds and I'll never fit into either, won't be able to meet someone and have a normal loving relationship or have friends or family.

  I can so completely relate to this feeling! It's worse than not being a JW sometimes because even if I was a freak, I was a freak who belonged somewhere. Now I don't belong anywhere, not in the "world" and certainly not with the Witnesses. It's No Man's Land, emotionally. I hold onto the hope that I'll feel more comfortable someday. And I don't force myself to do things that feel weird to me. For instance, I have celebrated Christmas in the past, but this year my partner and I weren't feeling it. We had our own special day together, but we didn't do the tree, and didn't exchange gifts, not on that day anyway. I wish it was special to me but it isn't. I never had it growing up, so why would it be? Awake and Watching, thank you for sharing your experience and different perspective. That helps tremendously, for me anyway. Peace, Rachel

  10 000 steps a day CRAP.

  so i decided to lose weight.. i reckoned that half an hours workout with weights a couple of times a week, plus swimming three times a week was a balanced schedule.. butnoooo - this is not good enough.

  we should be walking 10 000 steps a day.. do you realize how much time that will take?

  even at one step every second, you are talking about walking for two hours!!!

  The best part about exercise (just getting back into it myself) is that the more you do it, the more you love it. Seriously. So you hate it now. But it's addicting in so many ways. Push through your hatred of it and give it a go, and you will love it soon enough.

  For the first time in a long time I'm actually looking forward to my workout when I get home. I couldn't be happier! You can do it, hamsterbait, we can help!

  ((((((((((Aphrodite))))))))))))))). I can so relate to how you are feeling. I go through phases where I feel really connected and happy and outgoing followed by phases where all I want to do is shut myself away from the world and never be seen again. It's awful, and yes I do believe it has to do with being shunned and alone for a long time.

  I too was disfellowshipped at a young age and spent a long time with nobody, not even my family. It hurt so much. I'm definitely an advocate for therapy; it has helped me so much. I was lucky though and found a wonderful therapist with whom I connected to immediately. It helped too that she was working with others who were going through similar things and so had a background knowledge in what I was talking about.

  Good luck, Aphrodite. I don't think there is anything wrong with listening to yourself and keeping to yourself when it is right for you. But just make sure to keep it in check and don't shut everyone out! We need people. We need each other.

  What did you learn as a JW that helps you in your work today

  note: if you are cautious about being outted then be very careful what you post.. the biggest thing i learned was sign language.

  after i left i had a few jobs interpreting.. public speaking - didn't help me at all - that could be because speaking to someone else on the platform doesn't gives women an opportunity to address the audience.

  i took a intro course in public speaking that was far better than 22 years of the ministry school.. i'm thinking .

  Beauty out of Neglect (Pictures)

  on my travels this morning, i drove past an abandonded farm.

  i've driven past here before, and stop there every may/june and pick the sweetest smelling lilacs.

  something compelled me today to turn around and go back and do some exploring and take pictures.

Something compelled me today to turn around and go back and do some exploring and take pictures. I thought I'd share the beauty I saw there today with you all here.

  I would also like to say I'm a bit envious of the schedule that allows you to 1) travel and 2) stop in your travels and take in the beauty around you. If you don't mind my asking, Bumble Bee, what do you do?
