she will be going under general anesthesia to have more biopsies done.. i know its always scary to "go under.

everybody has their own timetable when it comes to leaving the organization.
some due to family and friends continue indefinetly.
others, when they see all the lies of the "truth", leave right away.
I was raised a JW, and baptized at 15 yrs old. I married at 19 and spent 4 years getting steadily more miserable, by which time I did not care whether it was the truth or not, I just could not carry on. So there was never a plan, just one night I knew the time had come to escape. It took about an hour to pack, and I never went back, and never saw a JC. They disfellowshipped me in my absence because I did not want to see the elders (petrified I would be persuaded to come back).
So, about 1 hour is how long it took me.
However, mind and heart did not really escape until I researched on the internet and found out the history of failed prophecies, Jerusalem not destryed in 607BC, and so on. Thank you H2O!
i have read of some people's bitterness because they were denied the opportunity to go to college.
during the 60's and 70's the society really discouraged any education other than what was necessary.
since the end was so near, especially around 1975, anybody that decided to go to "higher education" was considered very weak and unbalanced.
I did go to college, but I went the route of day release study while working full time, rather than continuing in full time education after 18yrs old. As it happens, I was incredibly lucky that the job I took at 18 put me down that route, as I would have taken any job going to avoid university.
In the UK, 16 year olds may choose not to continue their education, and of course, it was considered ideal to leave education at this age. I did A'levels until I was 18, then found full time work.
In my area, although the most worthy course was to pioneer, and find the most back breaking low paid part time work, working full time was still viewed more favourably than studying full time. The real reason is that higher education is encouraging you to think for yourself. I was the brunt of occasional criticism, but never had any hassle from elders.
In my case, I think I took the best route for me, regardless of JW attitudes to education. I still don't think continuing in full time education would have been the successful course for me.

I thought of a short WT definition of "Apostate". It is a word they use to smear anyone who says something true that they do not want to hear.

The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines apostasy as
1 Renunciation of a belief or faith, esp. religious
2 abandonment of principles or of a party
3 an instance of apostasy
And apostate as
a person who renounces a former belief, adherence etc.
The root of the word is APO- Away from, and -STAT stand.
So as link rightly pointed out, all JW's that converted from other religions are apostate to their former belief. This is a word, like "Truth", that has been hijacked by the WTBTS and imbued with all sorts of overtones and associations not present in its correct meaning. They have turned "apostate" into meaning some sort of bogeyman, a bit like FredHall's picture.
It is an excellent mechanism for stopping JW's from considering opposing viewpoints and arguments.
I remember how well conditioned I still was some years after I had escaped the bOrg. As I entered sites in the "Jehovahs Witnesses - Opposing Views" category, my heart was pounding - this was APOSTATE!!! Glad I found you all!!

And I am called Fe2O3Girl. Some of you have been wondering: Fe2O3 is the chemical formula for haematite, a beautiful shiny black mineral. When finely ground, or produced synthetically as a powder (see Penniman-Zoph process) it is a red pigment. I work for a company that makes said pigment, and I sell it to paint companies. I have made my living from rust for many years now.

Yes, he's my puss! He found me when he was 10 weeks old, and I was newly living alone. Now his main hobbies are puking up hairballs noisily at 5:30am, shredding carpets and chewing frogs.
Regarding treatment of animals, the first cats to join our family arrived when I was 4yrs old. Mum and Dad have always had a cat since then. As each one has died, he has been buried in the family garden, my dad laying them in their final resting place with tears. If all JW's are insensitive to the value of animal life, my parents must be imposters.
One of the reasons that my dad was totally turned off religion as a teenager was that his Salvation Army Sunday School teacher threw a bag of unwanted kittens in the canal to drown them.
Strangely, lots of people who have never had any contact with JW's also are callous and cruel to animals. Still, that would mean that there was something bad in our lives we couldn't blame on the WTBTS, and that's just silly........

Alaska, June 2001: Staying in a log cabin in the middle of Denali National Park. Had my first shower in a few days, feeling zingy. Joined husband and another couple on the veranda of the lodge, shared a glass of red wine. Looked across at the perfect view of Mount Denali (McKinley). Felt a moment of pure, deep contentment. Bliss. Still makes me tingle.

This sounds corny as hell, but pretty high on my list is the moment I swept down the aisle on my daddy's arm to the sweet strains of Liz Frasier singing "I wear your ring", my two best friends behind me, and took my place next to my honey and made my vows to love him forever. Made me cry then, makes me cry now....
To be honest, life just keeps getting better. When I walk out in the fields with the dogs and look at the sun shining on acres of golden barley swaying in the breeze........
There is so much joy in life, its all just so good!
